Chapter 82

She turned her gaze to me, looked me up and down, and said, "I really don't know how the Emperor can tolerate an imposter roaming freely outside!"

I raised an eyebrow and said, "Is Your Majesty questioning the Emperor's decision?"

Upon hearing this, her expression changed drastically, and she rebuked sharply, "How dare you! How could I allow you to slander me!"

I pouted, my big eyes sparkling with innocence: "Okra's hearing hasn't been working well lately, did I just hear wrong?"

Her face turned pale and then flushed, and after giving me a sidelong glance, she left surrounded by palace maids and eunuchs.

Watching that departing figure, I couldn't help but sigh, "It's hard to deal with both gentlemen and petty people. I've offended both of them now!"

"This palace is fraught with danger. Even if you don't offend her, she will find a reason to deal with you sooner or later!"

Looking at the distance between him and Ye Lisheng, separated by only a door, he was filled with resentment.

"Your Majesty, do you think he'll be bullied inside?"

After a pause, I dismissed the idea. He's so capable; it would be good enough if he didn't bully others.

"What we need to do now is check if we've missed any details so we can help Ye'er get away as soon as possible!"

"Um!"

A somber atmosphere filled the Prince Yu's residence as everyone prepared for the young prince's funeral.

Prince Yu stood in the study, facing the ball Lin Yi had played with the day before, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

Murong Kui's lips curled into a mocking smile: "Even tigers don't eat their cubs, Your Highness, you really have the heart to do that!"

He gave her a deep look and said, "There are gains and losses in everything!"

"I told you, you must not touch the Prince of Anyang under any circumstances!"

He lifted her chin, forcing her to look him in the eye, his gaze turning fierce: "If I don't get him, when will I ever get what I want?"

She slapped his hand away: "Does Your Highness want to back out?"

"I never promised to hand over my woman!"

Murong Kui used to think that Prince Yu was a good-for-nothing who could be easily controlled and would never go west if she told him to go east. Now, things seem to be going against her expectations.

With eyes full of affection and an alluring charm, she draped half her body over Prince Yu: "Your Highness!"

He gently pulled her into his arms, her soft, fragrant body stimulating every nerve in his body.

"I am determined to have the throne, and I will have you too, so you think I'll let him go? No way!"

Murong Kui's expression changed drastically, and she abruptly pulled away from his embrace.

The sudden departure left Prince Yu feeling somewhat empty and lost.

"Can one prisoner be brought in at 3 PM?" Ye Lisheng asked.

"Allow me to take a look!" he said, quickly searching through the notebook and finding it in no time.

He said, "Your Highness, please look, these are the people who were arrested on the fifteenth!"

Are they still there?

"Reporting to Your Highness, two have died, leaving three."

Guided by Wang Wei, Ye Lisheng went alone to the three men's cell.

The three men, thinly dressed and wounded, immediately knelt on the ground upon seeing him, pleading, "Your Highness, please save us..."

Their eyes were filled with a desperate desire to live. He glanced up and noticed that one of them, though crying for help, remained calm, which made him somewhat suspicious.

Three days ago, Ling Ran discovered that Prime Minister Su had close ties with the Lan Yi people, and that an informant was responsible for liaison between the two sides. However, the informant suddenly betrayed them and disappeared with the correspondence and an important item.

As for that important item, Ling Ran had no idea what it was.

The investigation continued, searching every street and alley, but no trace of the informant could be found.

Therefore, Ye Lisheng guessed that he might be hiding in the palace, and while the prison was crowded and noisy, it was also the least conspicuous place.

He had been worried about how to get into the prison, but unexpectedly, fate created an opportunity for him.

"Ling Ran! Say something!" Ling Shuang kept circling Ling Ran, trying to get information about Ye Lisheng, her eyes filled with anxiety.

"Tch!" A disdainful voice rang out, attracting Ling Ran's attention. This time, he noticed the handsome young man standing next to Ling Shuang.

He patted his chest and said, "Princess, why should we beg him? I'll go and find out for you later!"

"You?" Ling Shuang asked, her eyes filled with disbelief.

"Of course, I am your personal bodyguard!"

"A guard?" A strange emotion flashed in Ling Ran's eyes: "When did the princess acquire a guard?"

Before Ling Shuang could speak, he said with dissatisfaction, "When did I need to report the princess's affairs to you!"

For some reason, ever since Ling Shuang told him that Ling Ran was the person she liked, Nangong Liuli felt extremely uncomfortable whenever she saw Ling Ran.

Ling Shuang was so angry she was practically fuming. She'd finally managed to see him; she didn't want him to upset her.

With a gritted teeth, he stomped hard on Nangong Liuli's foot, and Nangong Liuli howled in pain, clutching his foot that had been stepped on!

"Ignore him, he's just a guard I picked up!"

"You found it?" Ling Ran asked, puzzled.

She nodded firmly: "Yes! He was injured and collapsed in the snow that day, and it was I who found him, otherwise he would have frozen to death long ago!"

Ling Ran sized up Nangong Liuli and noticed that although he was dressed simply, he exuded an inexplicable air of nobility. His intuition told him that this young man was no ordinary person.

"Princess, please refrain from doing such dangerous things in the future!"

Seeing that Ling Ran cared about her, she was so happy she almost jumped for joy; her eyes sparkled like countless stars.

But Nangong Liuli was very unhappy and retorted, "What is dangerous? How is saving me dangerous?"

Ling Ran frowned slightly, and Ling Shuang's heart tightened. She urged him to leave, saying, "Please excuse me for a moment. This princess has important matters to discuss with Ling Ran!"

He kept turning back to look at her, seeing her beaming with joy in front of Ling Ran, her eyes sparkling.
