Chapter Eighteen: Even Icebergs Can Smile

I jumped up onto the chair to be level with him, and something strange passed between us as our eyes met.

I wrapped my arms around Ye Lisheng's neck and lightly touched his lips with my own, like a dragonfly skimming the water. I could clearly feel his back stiffen.

While he was still in a daze, she took the booklet and hurriedly ran away while he stood there dumbfounded.

Watching my hurried departure, Ye Lisheng's expression was indescribable.

"Thump, thump, thump!" The vibrant heart was beating so hard I could feel it about to leap out of my throat.

I was so focused on grabbing the booklet that I used that kind of tactic, and now my face is burning red. I'm a little annoyed with myself for doing that.

Fortunately, I'm sitting in a tree now, and the lush green leaves form a natural barrier, preventing people outside from seeing me.

Opening the booklet, portraits of Ye Lisheng came into view—some angry, some glaring at me, and others quietly reading a book. The booklet was filled with all sorts of depictions of Ye Lisheng.

As I watched, a smile crept onto my face without me even realizing it.

"Ling Ran, go and find out what that woman is up to this time!"

"Yes, sir!"

"Your Highness, a group of outsiders have recently entered Lingqi, and they've heard that the Imperial Seal is with you!"

"Send men to strengthen the security at the Prince of Anyang's residence, and send more personnel!"

"yes!"

The day arrived as scheduled. Ye Lisheng stood with his hands behind his back in the corridor, dressed in a purple high-collared robe, his dark hair tied up with a golden crown, his eyebrows sharp and his eyes bright, his black eyes like jewels, his brows exuding a heroic spirit.

A gentle breeze lifted the light gauze curtains on the veranda, and a person holding a round fan, partially obscuring their face, walked towards him.

I tried to walk slowly, trying to be elegant and poised, but I don't know why I felt a little nervous.

I walked up to him, took the fan, and twirled around with a smile: "Greetings, Your Highness!"

I could clearly see the amazement in his eyes; he was finally no longer dressed as a maid.

I wore a light purple off-the-shoulder top paired with a light blue halter-neck halter top. Xiangye styled my hair into a bun in the front, with the rest draped over my shoulders. A thin layer of bangs framing my face, adorned with a few simple hairpins. My eyebrows were lightly drawn, and I wore minimal makeup. I looked playful and adorable.

"Isn't it beautiful!"

I leaned closer to him and asked

He left me behind and walked forward alone. "You look terrible! I was just worried that you would frighten my father and the officials!"

I caught up with him and nagged in his ear, "Your Highness, just admit it!"

The carriage was small but quite comfortable, thanks to the soft cushions, tea set, and some pastries inside.

Ye Lisheng was telling me who would be attending and how I should behave; I think this was probably the most he had ever talked in his life.

Seeing me standing to the side, only able to fum in anger, she gritted her teeth and said, "If you mess this up for me, don't even think about leaving the palace until you die!"

Wiping the crumbs from the corner of his mouth, Ye Lisheng's brows furrowed with disgust: "Utterly vulgar!"

"Joy injures the liver, anger injures the heart..." I said to him, mimicking the tone of an old Chinese medicine doctor.

The teacup slammed heavily onto the coffee table, making a loud noise that startled the driver, causing him to tremble.

Because of this, the horse neighed in fright, the carriage swayed, and I fell backward. In the blink of an eye, Ye Lisheng caught me with her long, slender fingers.

"Foolish woman!" Her breath tickled my face, and a chord seemed to be plucked in my heart.

"Thank you!" I said, a little embarrassed.

At this moment, the horse calmed down, and the coachman said apologetically, "Your Highness, you have been frightened!"

The woman in black robes skillfully evaded the patrol guards and entered the Mingyu Pavilion.

"Who are you?!" Just then, Lingxin saw it.

She slowly removed the black veil, revealing her face, and then there was a loud clang.

Lingxin collapsed to the ground in utter terror, as if she had seen a monster.

The palace was magnificent, splendidly renovated everywhere, with flowers blooming all around, and even the palace maids were beautiful.

My expression of surprise never changed from the moment I entered the palace.

"No wonder so many people are desperate to become emperor, there's a reason for it!"

"What are you muttering about?!" Ye Lisheng asked in a voice only the two of us could hear.

Too lazy to pay him any attention, she casually replied, "I said you're handsome!"

Unexpectedly, he took it seriously: "I've always thought you were blind, but your words today prove that there's still hope for your blindness!"

"You!" I was so angry I jumped up and down, trying to calm myself down. "Ignore me, ignore me!"

My little gestures seemed quite cute to Ye Lisheng, who smiled faintly.

The banquet hall was already full of people, and Ye Liming, seated on the dragon throne, listened to the civil and military officials speak with a constant smile.

He wore a bright yellow brocade robe, with dragons embroidered in gold thread that highlighted his status, and he looked dignified and imposing.

"The Prince of Anyang has arrived!" came the loud announcement from Eunuch Lin.

Ye Lisheng and I became the center of the crowd, and suddenly everyone's eyes were on us.

Seemingly sensing my unease, he said softly, "Where did your usual boldness go? Don't be afraid!"

"Your subject pays respects to Your Majesty!"

Fortunately, I remembered all the etiquette that Granny Du taught me: "This commoner, Murong Kui, greets Your Majesty. May Your Majesty enjoy boundless blessings and peace!"

"Rise!"

"Your Highness, this way please!"

"Sixth Brother, over here!" Ye Xuanling greeted us.

Looking up, he saw Yanran there too. She had now become Ye Xuanling's personal maid, serving him at all times, which pleased him.

I quietly greeted her, "Yanran!"

She gave me a sweet smile.

The table was covered with all kinds of pastries, which satisfied my eyes.

"I don't like pastries!" he said, taking the pastries from in front of him and placing them on my table.
