Chapter Fifty-Seven: The Lively Anyang Prince's Mansion

Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep with my head on his lap.

Ye Lisheng's legs were a little numb from being used as a pillow by me. Looking at me sleeping soundly, a smile appeared on his lips, his eyes filled with doting affection.

Suddenly, he was surprised to see a flash of red light on my forehead, and the mark of a red spider lily appeared.

His heart ached as if pierced by needles; he clutched his chest, a wave of sorrow washing over him.

Amidst the white spider lilies, a woman gazes intently at something, drawing the curiosity of countless wandering souls.

The woman wearing the Yaksha mask couldn't help but tease, "Is Wangsheng waiting for that mortal?"

She smiled shyly and said, "No, I didn't!"

"We've known each other for hundreds of years, how could I not know what you're thinking! You gave him the token so he could freely enter and leave the underworld, wasn't that just waiting for him to come looking for you one day?"

"I haven't been able to find out how that mortal got to the underworld, which might be detrimental to you!"

She blinked her innocent-looking big eyes and asked, "Did I do something wrong?"

"Having lived in the underworld all your life, you've never witnessed the ugliness and sin of humanity, so naturally you're more likely to trust others."

"However, you must protect yourself no matter what you do. I will keep a close eye on that mortal and won't let him hurt you!"

Seeing her suddenly earnest expression, Wang Sheng was somewhat puzzled but still nodded.

He arrived as she had been waiting for, bringing with him something she had never seen before.

He said that among the people, this thing is called a zither and can play beautiful melodies.

Today he wore a moon-white robe, exuding elegance and refinement, and his entire being radiated an extraordinary aura.

His black hair danced in the wind, his fingers were long and straight with distinct knuckles, and under his touch, the strings produced a moving melody.

Wang Sheng rested his cheeks on his hands, gazing at the scene with a dreamy expression, the corners of his mouth always turned up in a smile.

At that moment, a cloud of black mist rose from the Spirit Well: "Youmeng!"

The woman who always wore the Yaksha mask was named Youmeng.

Her eyes were filled with anger as she shouted, "This is not a place for you!"

The black mist let out a strange laugh: "Then tell me where I should go. After I died, I have been hovering in the Spirit Well, but I cannot be reincarnated as a human!"

Youmeng coldly laughed: "You committed many evil deeds in your past life, and Heaven has punished you by banishing you from the cycle of reincarnation for eternity, subjecting you to endless torment in darkness!"

The black mist suddenly transformed into a human form, and the shape of the Forgotten Bridge River could be vaguely seen within it.

He suddenly calmed down, looking at the man and woman among the flowers, his eyes gleaming.

"Your underworld still has such pure flower spirits!"

Youmeng instantly turned to him, her expression tense: "What do you want?"

"What do you think I would do if her spirit took away the curse from the spirit well?"

No sooner had she finished speaking than Youmeng swung her scepter at him.

Vanished in an instant like a wisp of smoke

A melodious tune played, and white red spider lilies swayed in the wind.

"What's your name?" the girl asked, resting her chin on her hand.

The man's lips were of moderate thickness, slightly reddish, and he spoke, "September!" His voice was magnetic.

The name kept lingering in my mind, startling me awake from my sleep. I mumbled incoherently, "September!"

The moment I opened my eyes, I met Ye Lisheng's strange gaze.

He removed his hand from his chest and noticed a thin layer of sweat on his forehead.

"What's wrong?" I asked as I wiped away the fine sweat from his brow.

The anxiety and concern in his eyes softened the hardest part of his heart.

"I am fine!"

"Were you muttering someone's name in your sleep just now?"

I think I was dreaming, but I can't remember what the dream was about.

So he shook his head and blurted out, "No!"

"From now on, no one but me can even think about you!" That domineering tone was unmistakably Ye Lisheng's.

Seeing that I remained silent, his face suddenly darkened.

"Have you remembered what I said?"

"Hmph!" I arrogantly tossed my head to one side and said, "Let's see how you do!"

"It seems my little wildcat has returned!"

The large, gilded characters of "Anyang Prince's Mansion" came into view, and thinking back to my first visit here, I couldn't help but laugh.

"I'm home!" Ye Lisheng's gentle voice rang in my ears.

His hands were cold, but his eyes were burning.

"Miss, you're back?"

"Miss is back!"

"You may all leave!" Ye Lisheng ordered, and all the maids and servants immediately departed.

The Moon Gazing Pavilion returned to silence. I sat on the swing, and Ye Lisheng gently pushed me up.

A warm scent filled the air.

"sorry!"

I was stunned when those three words came from the mouth of the aloof Ye Lisheng.

"Why should I apologize!"

He sat next to me on the swing, resting his head on my shoulder.

"If it weren't for me that day, you wouldn't have been murdered!"

His tone softened, and his eyes weren't as cold as before.

Because he was afraid—afraid of losing it again; he didn't want to experience the taste of loss again.

"Fool, I'm standing right here, aren't I?"

"From now on, you are not allowed to leave my side by more than three steps without my order!"

I burst out laughing at his childish tone.

He rolled his eyes at me, pinched my chubby cheeks with his big hand, and said with concern, "Looks like I need to fatten you up a bit. Your face doesn't feel as chubby as it used to be!"

With a sweet smile on my face, I nestled in his arms, and all I heard was a "meow!"

The little dumpling wagged its tail and walked towards us with a haughty air, shaking its fur so a few strands fell to the ground.
