As snow fell heavily, a beautifully sculpted child stood in a secluded spot, his face red from the cold, his little eyes anxiously looking around.
Just then, a woman walked towards him, and the child happily rushed into her arms.
"Mother!"
A hint of surprise flashed in the woman's eyes: "Ye'er, what are you doing here?"
"Mother, are you leaving?"
"Nonsense, who told you that?" the woman said, feigning anger.
"You're lying! I heard everything you said to Aunt Ming!"
"Good boy, Ye'er. Your mother and Aunt Ming are talking about buying you candied hawthorns. You've been saying you want some!"
With a single tear clinging to the corner of her eye, she looked pitiful and sobbed, "Really?"
"Of course, when has your mother ever lied to you!"
The soft little hand released the woman's clothes: "Mother, come back soon!"
She choked back tears and said, "Okay!"
After walking a few steps, the woman couldn't help but run back and hug Ye Lisheng in her arms: "Ye'er, will you forget your mother?!"
"How could Ye'er possibly forget his mother!"
Just then, Aunt Ming reminded her, "Your Highness, the patrolling guards will be back soon!"
Ye Lisheng didn't understand why buying a candied hawthorn would cause her tears to flow like a broken string of pearls.
As the bustling city faded and night fell, a heavy snowfall began, and pedestrians shivered from the cold.
Aunt Ming, worried that he would catch a cold, advised, "Your Highness, let's go back!"
"No, I must wait for Mother to return!" Though small in stature, her eyes were filled with unwavering determination.
Aunt Ming was getting anxious: "You'll catch a cold if you keep going like this!"
"If Mother doesn't return, Ye'er won't go back!"
He didn't remember how he got back to his palace that night, only that he woke up the next morning to a furious rage, ordering all the guards to search for his mother.
"Mother!" Ye Lisheng called out in a daze.
Hearing this, Mo Niang felt heartbroken and tears streamed down her face. She covered her mouth, trying her best not to make a sound.
"Seeing him like this, are you still going to leave?" I asked.
I thought Ye'er would be fine after I left!
"He is known as the 'Ice Prince' by outsiders, but they don't know that he also has a lot of tenderness in his heart!"
"He led his troops to force the enemy into repeated defeats. Outsiders only knew that he was invincible, but no one cared about his many wounds!"
"Although I am not in the palace, I often ask people to inquire about his whereabouts. When I hear that he is fighting in the war, I am woken up by nightmares every night!"
As the stars appeared, the autumn night was inevitably a little chilly. Lingran and I stood guard outside the door, leaving them alone.
"Has Ye Lisheng's health always been this poor?" I asked Ling Ran.
He looked at the lonely stars and sighed, "On the battlefield, swords and spears have no eyes, and it's inevitable to get injured. Sometimes, before the wounds are even treated, the prince leads his men back to the battlefield. Zhou Erfu has always been sick, but fortunately, it's been well controlled. However, I don't know why it's been relapsing more and more frequently lately!"
Just then, a cry came from inside the house: "Ye'er, it's your mother!"
Then came a cold sneer: "I have no recollection of having a mother!"
"I know it was my fault back then; I shouldn't have abandoned you!"
He looked at Mo Niang with an icy expression, but his hands, hidden under the covers, were already trembling.
"Ever since your aunt died, you have lived in regret, so I do not resent your departure, but only resent that you did not take me with you!"
"Keeping you in the palace is the best choice for you!"
"I know what the best choice is for myself!"
Hearing this, she became even more heartbroken. Each glistening tear pierced Ye Lisheng's heart, and his outstretched hand fell back down.
"Can you forgive your mother?"
"Then can you stay?" he countered.
"I..." Mo Niang hesitated.
"Mother!" His voice trembled slightly; I knew he was suppressing his emotions.
Mo Niang held him in her arms, crying loudly, "My son! Do you know how long your mother has waited for this moment?"
"I'm not leaving anymore, I'm never leaving again!"
"Really?" He asked with childlike joy, his eyes shining with anticipation.
"I want to stay by Ye'er's side and never leave again!"
Upon hearing Mo Niang's affirmative answer, his eyes finally welled up with tears.
Upon hearing this news, Ye Liming was shocked and asked in a trembling voice, "Is it really her? She's back?"
"Your Majesty, it is absolutely true. It was the Prince who asked me to inform you!"
Where is she now?
"The Prince of Anyang's Mansion!"
"Good...you...hahaha!" He was so excited that he was almost incoherent. This was the first time Su Wan'er had ever seen the Emperor so out of control.
"Go back first and tell her that I will return to the Prince of Anyang's residence later to bring her back to the palace!"
"Yes, Your Majesty! I obey!"
Su Wan'er is Su Lie's daughter and Su Yu'er's older sister. Not long after Mo Niang left, she became the emperor's favored concubine.
"She's back!" he exclaimed excitedly to her.
Even though she was dissatisfied, she had to pretend to be happy for him: "Congratulations, Your Majesty! I wonder what my sister likes? I'll have someone prepare it for her right away!"
"Thank you for your trouble, Wan'er, but I can handle these small matters myself!" With that, she smiled and walked briskly outside.
"Your Majesty, I respectfully see you off!"
The smiling, charming woman suddenly changed her expression, her eyes turning cold.
"Ningxiang!"
"Yes, sir!"
"Go to the Prime Minister's residence and tell the Master that I am homesick and request to see him to ease my longing for home!"
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
