Chapter Ninety-Eight

Su was quite dissatisfied with his words, but he couldn't expose him on the spot.

Ye Liming said, "We should naturally give the body to Ling Qi as he confessed. This matter will be handled by Prime Minister Su. Find the murderer!"

Even though he was unwilling, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and agree: "Your subordinate obeys!"

Immediately afterwards, the eunuch beside him presented him with a second letter, and his brows furrowed, his expression growing increasingly grave.

The ministers were all on edge upon seeing this.

"The Crown Prince of Lan Yi is coming!" His voice was neither too loud nor too soft, enough for everyone to hear.

Everyone couldn't help but whisper among themselves, occasionally glancing up to observe Ye Liming's expression.

Lord Li asked, "May I ask if His Majesty's letter mentioned when he would arrive and why?"

"You came at the beginning of spring, but you didn't say why. I think it's about the marriage between Ling Shuang and Crown Prince Lan Yi!"

He paused for a moment, then added, "You must keep a close eye on the movements of the Lan Yi people. I'll leave the marriage alliance to you, Lord Li!"

"Your subject will certainly not fail in your mission!"

Su Xiang's already dark skin became even darker. He used to be the one to handle these matters, so why was someone else doing it now? He was somewhat dissatisfied.

After everyone had left the court, Ye Lisheng secretly followed him to the Imperial Study.

The wind was blowing hard outside, and there was a puddle on the road, indicating that a lot of the snow had melted.

Ye Liming personally stoked the fire in the stove, his movements somewhat practiced.

He asked seemingly casually, "I have read your memorial. Are you really going to give up everything related to Lingqi for a woman?"

Light streamed into the room through the cracks, falling directly on him, as if he were enveloped in light.

After a long pause, he took a step back, clasped his hands in a gesture of respect, and knelt before him.

This aloof and intimidating Prince Anyang

"Your subject has found the person to protect."

Every word and phrase reflected his deepest thoughts and reflections.

"So you're not going to care about your mother, your sister, or the common people of Lingqi?"

The entire conversation was light-hearted, and the questions seemed casual, but they weighed heavily on his heart like a large stone.

"Your subject is a citizen of Lingqi, and will fight for Lingqi no matter where I am born!"

Nightfall's large hand gripped his arm and pulled him up from the ground.

"The Crown Prince of Lan Yi is not as simple as he seems. I am deeply saddened by Ling Shuang's marriage to a foreign ruler. I only wish that the Crown Prince will treat her well!"

"I know what you're worried about. I will send palace guards out to search for you. Lingqi needs you now!"

Ye Lisheng looked up and saw the fine lines at the corners of his eyes and the gray hairs at his temples. She was shocked to realize that even this high and mighty father would grow old like everyone else. A thousand emotions welled up in her heart.

The door opened, and a sudden gust of wind rushed in, scattering letters from the desk all over the floor as Ye Lisheng dodged. Turning around, she saw Ye Liming standing there.

"Qin Han!" Just as Ye Liming spoke, a figure appeared out of thin air in the Imperial Study.

Qin Han, shrouded in darkness, was the night's guard at dawn. Few had ever seen him. He stood eight feet tall, with sharp, sword-like eyebrows beneath eyes as cold as winter ice. A single glance at him felt like being transported to a frozen wasteland. His skin was dark, perhaps due to years of dance training. His hair was bound with a jade crown, and a white jade fan adorned his eyes.

His belief was based solely on the word "command." He would obey any command from Ye Mingliang, no matter the danger.

"Your Majesty, what are your orders?"

Nightfall said, "What should be done if a person's heart wavers?"

"Uproot the root of wavering and sever all thoughts!" The words were spoken coldly and without hesitation.

He nodded in satisfaction and said, "There's someone I need you to find. After you find them..."

He didn't say the rest, but Qin Han understood what he meant from a sharp look in his eyes.
