After returning to her room, Xia Yang locked herself in and forbade anyone from entering.
I frantically tried to run over to verify if the corpse was indeed Ye Lisheng, but the two men held me firmly.
"You'd better just behave and obey me, or you'll suffer some physical pain!"
With his mouth covered by a person whose palms were covered in calluses, he could only whimper to express his resistance.
Ling Ran knelt before the corpse, clutching the jade pendant and letting out a painful roar: "Your Highness!!!"
"Bang!" My heart ached as if it were being stabbed, and tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.
Her bloodshot eyes shifted from self-blame to despair: "If I hadn't been drinking, would this have happened?"
I was able to do everything in my power to save him when the fire started.
"Ye Lisheng, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."
"Hiss!" A heavy blow struck my back, and darkness engulfed me. As I was finally plunged into darkness, I heard Ling Ran's self-reproach and the panicked cries of the beggar we often helped: "Who set this fire, my husband?"
Ling Ran's face contorted with hatred as he gripped the beggar's collar tightly with both hands: "Who is it?"
"She has been kind to me; I cannot betray her!"
"Whoosh!!" Ling Ran pulled out her sword and held it to the beggar's neck. The beggar was so frightened that his legs trembled as if he were being shaken.
Are you going to tell me or not?
The beggar knelt on the ground, clasped his hands together, and begged for mercy: "Sir, spare my life!"
The leading officer stepped in to mediate, saying, "Guard Ling Ran, if we kill him, we won't be able to find the murderer."
Then he asked the beggar fiercely, "Do you know what wrong it is to cover up a crime?"
"Do you believe I have a thousand ways to make you talk?"
The beggar was so frightened that his legs trembled. He had naturally witnessed their methods before.
He hurriedly surrendered, saying, "It's Boss Qiu from Chunfeng Shili Shop."
Upon hearing this, the skinny man immediately jumped up, and if it weren't for the soldiers stopping him, he would have been kicked to death.
"Beggar, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want!"
"Boss Qiu has been so good to you, how could you frame her?"
"Yes! We've decided we won't believe that Boss Qiu started this fire!"
"Besides, this Chunfeng Shili shop is her life's work. Aren't you afraid of being discovered if you set fire to it here? Our Boss Qiu isn't that stupid."
The three of them spoke with absolute certainty, every word of which reflected their trust in me.
The officers and soldiers weren't buying it and retorted, "If it wasn't her, then where is she now?"
Mai Su'er and the other three looked at each other, their eyes seemingly asking, "Do you know where Boss Qiu went?"
"Such a big thing happened, how could she, as an old woman, not know about it?"
"I think she's scared and running away," the soldier said with certainty.
Suddenly, a deep voice came from afar: "Gentlemen, my brother and I have spotted this man acting suspiciously and trying to escape."
All eyes were on me as the two of them carried me away from my unconscious state.
Everyone recognized who it was at a glance.
Those around him whispered and pointed, "It really is Boss Qiu!"
"No wonder she wears a veil every day; she's doing something shameful!"
"Guards, take her to the imperial prison for interrogation!"
"yes."
Upon hearing this, the fat man became extremely anxious. Lan Yi's prison was filled with vicious and ruthless people, and going there once would cost him his life. If he hadn't been so lucky, he probably would have died there long ago.
Hearing the words "heavenly prison" made him feel as if he had returned to that time.
"Sir, there must be some misunderstanding. Can we wait until she wakes up before we talk about it?"
The leading officer shoved him away roughly: "Do you want to go to the prison with her too?"
The skinny monkey brandished the meteor hammer at his waist, ready to smash him to death if he dared to make a move.
Mai Su'er held Ling Ran's hand and said, "Guard Ling, your prince has been living here ever since he was injured."
"Although my boss Qiu has a bit of a temper, she treats your prince extremely well, as you can see, so there's no way she would do such a thing."
But Lingran wouldn't listen to a word. Looking at the corpse, he was practically ready to follow it with him: "No matter what the reason, I will find the murderer and avenge my lord."
"So, Miss Su'er, you'd better pray that it wasn't Boss Qiu who did it."
"Come and take her away."
...
Spiritual awakening...
Eunuch Song walked extremely fast, taking two steps at a time, with a solemn expression.
The young eunuch approaching asked, "Sir, what's wrong? Why are you in such a panic?"
Before he could speak, he shoved the man away.
"emperor!"
"emperor!"
Ye Lisheng sat high on the dragon throne, and Su Wan'er, with a shy expression on her face, slowly sat up from his embrace: "Your Majesty."
Ye Lisheng's eyes flashed with anger, and he slammed his hand on the table, saying, "How dare you! Why didn't you announce your arrival?"
Startled, Eunuch Song hurriedly knelt down and said sincerely, "Your Majesty, there was a reason for this, and the situation was urgent, so this servant dared to overstep my bounds."
"What is it?" he asked.
"Your Majesty, the Prince of Anyang... the Prince of Anyang, he..."
After a long silence, Eunuch Song glared at Ye Liming, slammed his hand on the table, and demanded, "What's wrong with that rebellious son?"
Eunuch Song slammed his head heavily against the floor, which made a dull thud.
"Your Majesty, the Prince of Anyang has died."
"The body was burned to ashes and is being transported back to Lingqi from Lanyi."
A triumphant smirk flashed across Su Wan'er's lips, as if she was not at all surprised by the news.
