Chapter Seven: Eating Mulberries

An oppressive atmosphere filled the Celestial Master's Pavilion. Helian Ye stared solemnly at the burning white candle before him; drops of blood from his fingertips turned the candle red.

At this moment, you could see a hint of pride in his eyes, but his expression changed shortly afterward.

The candle, which had turned red, returned to its original color.

"Hmph!" He waved his hand and extinguished the candle.

"Haven't you found it yet?"

Mo Sheng lowered his head: "Disciple has failed Master's trust!"

"Hmph!" Wang Qiaochuan snorted through his nose, his dissatisfaction evident.

"waste!"

"Is it really that hard to find someone?"

"As long as she is here, it won't be difficult to find her. It's just that Master didn't provide a portrait of the woman, so relying solely on her voice is like looking for a needle in a haystack!"

His words seemed to remind him of something, and a wicked smile crept onto his lips.

He said with immense pleasure, "You can go now! Let's put this matter aside for now!"

Mo Sheng was filled with questions, wondering if he had already come up with a solution, but she didn't dare to ask.

The lotus flowers in the pond were in full bloom, pink and white, and the wind rippled the water. An arched bridge spanned the lake, stretching all the way to the other side of the road.

"Actually, things aren't as bad as I imagined!"

I walked arm in arm with Xiangye, and she looked completely bewildered by my actions and words.

"Okra, won't we get spotted like this?" she asked with a worried expression.

She shouldn't have mentioned it, because the moment she brought it up, I couldn't help but laugh. At that moment, our mouths and hands were stained purplish-black by mulberries; anyone who didn't know better would think we were poisoned!

I patted my chest and said, "Don't worry, no one will find out!"

"Look, there's no one on this bridge!" I said, pointing to the road ahead.

Just then, I froze, because Ye Lisheng was walking towards us.

"What should we do? What should we do? It's the Prince!" Xiangye was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, pacing back and forth in circles.

"Don't be afraid!" I comforted her, shielding her behind me. I appeared calm on the surface, but inside I was terrified.

Who knows what that perverted prince will do?

"Greetings, Your Highness!"

Okra and I knelt in the corner to greet him, our heads practically bowing to the floor.

After a long while, we didn't hear any sound, and none of us dared to look up.

"Did they leave?" I muttered to myself.

"Lift your head!" A voice as cold as ice rang out.

I was so startled that I froze, too terrified to move. The sun was already blazing hot, but hearing his voice sent a chill down my spine.

He caught a glimpse of Xiangye's trembling body out of the corner of his eye, and then stammered, "Reporting...reporting...to...Your Majesty..."

She couldn't utter a single word for a long time; it made me anxious for her.

The pair of feet in front of me, embroidered with auspicious clouds and clad in brocade boots, stamped impatiently: "I command you to raise your head!"

I was stunned; the powerful aura made it hard to breathe, and a wave of panic washed over me.

"Okra, this isn't the same you. Why are you so timid around him?!"

Just as I hesitated, a folding fan was placed under my chin, forcing my head to tilt upwards.

The sky was a deep orange-red, and even though the sun had set halfway down the mountain, it was still blinding. I squinted and couldn't make out their faces clearly.

But you could sense the murderous look on Ye Lisheng's face; it was unmistakably ugly.

As my eyes adjusted to the light and my vision became clearer, a suppressed laugh sounded behind him. My attention turned to the man, who was about eight feet tall, with his hair tied in a black crown, and looked clean and neat.

"How come everyone in ancient times was so incredibly handsome!"

But he's not as good-looking as Ye Lisheng.

I thought to myself, "He's such an ice block. I can't help but laugh when I see myself. My mouth is all purplish-black, like I've been poisoned. How does he manage to hold back his laughter?"

Seeing the changing expressions on my face, Ye Lisheng asked angrily, "Who told you to go to Mingyu Pavilion?" His voice was deep and magnetic.

"Didn't you make me a maid? Cleaning Mingyu Pavilion is also my job, so naturally I went in!"

I muttered it to myself, but he heard every single word.

"It seems that Granny Du is incompetent; she can't even train a maid!"

"Ling Ran, you can tell her to pack her things and get out!"

She decided someone's life with a single, uncompromising word. Although I hate Granny Du, I can't let someone lose their job!

Seeing Ling Ran about to leave, I stood up and called out to him, "Stop right there!"

He looked at me with a bewildered expression, not knowing what I was going to do!

Xiangye was almost frantic, pulling me tightly: "Qiu Kui, what are you doing? Kneel down!"

"You should take responsibility for your own actions! How could you do this?" I demanded.

"This is my royal residence!"

"Do you think you're so great? Deciding other people's fates so casually!"

Ye Lisheng chuckled dismissively. This was the first time I'd ever seen him smile, and he was so handsome; for a moment, I was captivated.

"I am the master, you are the slave. Tell me, do I not have the right to decide your fate?"

As if I'd heard the funniest joke, I rolled my eyes at him: "Pedantic."

Suddenly remembering something, he smirked: "I didn't sign a contract of servitude with you, so I'm not under your control!"

"You've reminded me of something; Ling Ran will have to obediently sign the contract of servitude later!"

"Yes, sir!"

"You!" I said angrily, "This is forced buying and selling, it's inhumane!"

I was so angry that I don't even know what I said.

"You're the first person who dares to speak to me like that. Do you want to know the consequences?"
