Just as I was overjoyed at the prospect of liberation, Ye Lisheng's gaze suddenly fell upon me, and he said without any warmth, "You stay here to taste the dishes!"
"Why should I? I don't want it!" she retorted inwardly.
But her face still maintained a docile and obedient appearance: "This servant obeys!"
"I'll endure it to survive!"
Everyone left, leaving only Ye Lisheng and me in the empty room.
The oppressive atmosphere was suffocating, so I did everything as carefully as possible, afraid of making any noise that might anger him.
I was obediently trying the dishes when I discovered they were incredibly delicious, and for a moment I lost control.
I forgot who I was with, but when I saw the stool, I just sat down.
They ate with relish, rolled up their sleeves, and started gnawing on the bones.
Upon seeing this, Ye Lisheng's expression turned extremely ugly, and a dangerous glint flashed in his narrow, almond-shaped eyes: "Rude woman!"
"Bang!" Ye Lisheng slammed his chopsticks heavily on the table.
Startled, I quickly stood up and stammered, "Your...Your Highness!"
Just then, the sound of crying and sobbing came from outside the door.
"Your Highness, you must do justice for Yu'er!"
Upon closer inspection, wasn't this the concubine who had come looking for trouble this morning? Knowing it was better to avoid trouble, she lowered her head in fear.
"What brings you here?" Ye Lisheng asked coldly.
Yu'er mustered her courage, put her arm around his shoulder, and sat down on Ye Lisheng's lap. Seeing that he wasn't angry, she became even bolder.
She said in a sweet, coquettish voice, "This morning, I kindly escorted Sister Murong to the kitchen, but she repaid kindness with enmity and splashed water all over Yu'er!"
After speaking, she looked at him with a wronged expression, her eyes brimming with tears, waiting for Ye Lisheng to stand up for her.
"Is this true?" he asked, looking at me.
Of course, she couldn't admit it now! She quickly shook her head: "This servant is innocent!"
"You dare talk back? You're clearly a lowly slave!"
"May I ask, Madam Yu, where did this servant throw your water? Is there any witness?"
"Behind the artificial hill, the other ladies can all testify!"
Her big, bright eyes darted around, so clear and expressive they seemed to speak volumes.
“I didn’t go past the rockery to get to the kitchen, and I was with the Eighth Prince!”
"You lowly slave, how dare you distort the truth!"
Hearing her call me a lowly servant made me furious; I already mentally considered her a complete idiot.
"If you don't believe me, Madam, you can have someone summon the Eighth Prince and ask him. He'll then know whether I'm lying or not!"
Ye Xuanling is a prince of a great kingdom, while I am merely a concubine; I am absolutely not someone to be trifled with.
"Your Highness!" a soft, sweet voice cried out.
Hearing that made my body tremble, and I got goosebumps.
"I truly admire you!"
"What can I do to make Yu'er calm down?" Ye Lisheng teased, pinching her chin.
Su Yu'er's father, Su Lie, was one of the three senior officials in the court, and he was of great use to Ye Lisheng. It was precisely because of this that he tried his best to meet Su Yu'er's requests.
"I heard that my sister has lost her memory. Your Highness, why don't you entrust your sister to my care? Perhaps I can awaken her memory!"
"I don't want to!" he cried out in his heart, hoping Ye Lisheng could hear him.
If I hand it over to her, who knows what she might do to me! I've watched quite a few palace intrigue dramas.
"If Yu'er doesn't mind the trouble, then so be it!"
Hearing this, Su Yu'er immediately beamed with joy, and held her hand eagerly, saying, "Don't worry, sister, Yu'er will take good care of you!"
"Hypocritical!" she cursed inwardly.
They say they've done it, but they're actually using all sorts of tricks to make me their slave.
"Hahaha!"
A burst of soft laughter came from inside the house. I took a feather duster and dusted the room.
A cursory glance here, a cursory glance there, utterly perfunctory.
My eyes were constantly on Su Yu'er and the others.
"Sister, your tea is so delicious!" A gentle, soothing voice rang out.
Dressed in blue, Liu Ye exuded gentleness in every smile and gesture, as gentle as water. When she smiled, she would cover half her face with a handkerchief, making it impossible to tell whether she was smiling from her eyes.
"Of course! Sister Yu'er is the Prince's beloved concubine!" This person was named Ning Jing, but her personality didn't match her name at all; she spoke in a very outspoken and unrestrained manner.
As expected, Su Yu'er's expression changed upon hearing the word "concubine".
Each of the three had their own unique charm, and all were exceptionally beautiful.
I glanced at her disdainfully: "I really don't know where Ye Lisheng found such a gem!"
"Sister Murong Kui, you need to clean thoroughly, how can you just sweep one corner!" Ning Jing said.
"Sister Ning, have you forgotten? Sister Murong Kui is a princess, and she has never lifted a finger to do housework!"
"Princess?" I was completely confused.
Su Yu'er sneered, "Just a hostage princess..."
After saying that, she pretended to have misspoke and looked apologetic: "Sister, please don't be angry, I didn't mean it."
I blinked innocently, watching them put on an incredibly boring act: "The three of you speak so eloquently, so would you please give me a demonstration?"
He handed the feather duster to Liu Ye, who looked at it blankly, unsure what to do, and looked at everyone with pleading eyes.
Anxious, Ning Jing snatched the feather duster and said confidently, "Watch closely, I'll teach you!"
Without saying a word, he rolled up his sleeves and started sweeping, sending chicken feathers flying all over the room.
Su Yu'er couldn't stand it and snatched it away: "It's not like you sweeping it!"
The three of them started arguing. I smiled, contentedly filled my pockets with sunflowers, and gestured for all the maids to leave with me.
