Chapter Sixty-Eight

"Why are they still wearing red ribbons on their hands?" That was the first thing she noticed.

Immediately afterwards, the woman dressed in coarse linen clothes hugged the other woman.

She cried and cursed, "How could you bear to leave me all alone?!"

The more she cried, the more heartbroken she became; it was heartbreaking to watch.

The elegantly dressed man and woman, presumably the man's parents, disgustedly ordered their men to untie Hongling.

The middle-aged man looked at the red jade in his hand, gritted his teeth, and said fiercely with red eyes, "If it weren't for your daughter, that wicked woman, my son wouldn't have died young!"

He paused, unsure how to answer her.

But she insisted on getting to the bottom of it: "Have you ever been in love?"

Do you know where you can find love?

A series of questions gave him a headache: "I'll tell you later. It's time for us to go back!"

"No!" She shook off his hand. "I haven't had enough fun yet!"

"Be good, I'll bring you here again next time!"

"I don't know when the future will be!"

Suddenly, an idea struck him. He pointed to the candied hawthorn vendor ahead and said, "If you buy me another candied hawthorn, I'll go back with you!"

He believed her, but after buying the candied hawthorns, she disappeared into the crowd.
