Chapter Sixty-One: Heavy Snowfall

The sunlight shone on him, perfectly sculpting Ling Ran's sharply defined profile.

Ling Shuang was so engrossed in watching that she wished she could keep watching forever.

Suddenly, Lingran turned her head and met her gaze, which she hadn't yet managed to withdraw.

An ambiguous atmosphere permeated the air.

My heart was pounding as I watched him walk towards me.

"Greetings, Your Highness!"

With her head down, she awkwardly uttered a single word: "Mmm!"

The blush on her face seemed to glow in the sunlight, and Ling Ran was somewhat mesmerized by her. However, upon realizing his own identity, he consciously distanced himself.

"Is Your Highness here to see the Prince and Miss Murong?"

Actually, she came here hoping to see him, but she had to nod against her will: "This princess is bored in the palace, so I came here to relieve my boredom!"

"The prince and young lady have gone out on some business, but they should be back soon. Princess, please rest for a moment and wait!"

"I understand!"

"Then I'll take my leave!" He stole a glance at her.

After saying that, he turned and left. Ling Shuang called out anxiously, "Hey! You're just leaving like that!"

"Is there anything else, Princess?" His face was as cold as ice, but he was secretly delighted.

"I recently learned a new sword technique; would you like to come and give me some pointers?"

"My swordsmanship is not as refined as Your Highness's. Let's wait for Your Highness to return and let him personally instruct you!"

She was angry; her little face turned bright red, just like a ripe apple.

"Stop talking nonsense, I, the princess, command you!"

As she spoke, she began to wield her sword in the sunlight, leaping like an elf in Lingran's heart.

Ling Ran's lips curled up slightly as he gazed at her with fascination. He had only dared to glance at her briefly before, but now he finally had the chance to look at her properly.

Suddenly, Ling Shuang lost her balance, the sword flew from her hand, and her whole body fell backward.

She thought she was about to have a close encounter with the earth, but a dark shadow flew in front of her and caught her.

Seeing the anxious expression on Ling Ran's face, she couldn't be happier.

"Princess, please don't do such dangerous things in the future!"

"I've learned how to protect myself if I encounter bad people!"

He blurted out, "I won't let bad guys hurt you!"

I only realized what I had said after it was out of my mouth.

"What are you saying?" She knew perfectly well what he meant, but pretended not to understand and leaned closer to ask him.

The faint scent of osmanthus emanating from her lingered in Ling Ran's heart, and her clear, bright eyes seemed to see right through him.

He flinched back in a panic, stammering, "N-nothing!"

"It seems the Prince has returned. I'll go and see!"

Watching his retreating figure as if he were fleeing, Ling Shuang was so happy she wanted to jump for joy.

Two girls were talking about their innermost thoughts on the swing, and withered yellow butterflies fluttered down, bringing the beauty of autumn.

I reached out and caught a falling leaf, sighing, "Winter is coming, and the days of snowfall won't be far off!"

"Yes! I still remember last time Brother Ye and Brother Ba took me skiing, and I sprained my ankle. It was Lingran who carried me back!"

The moment Ling Ran's inner gossip was mentioned, the question popped up: "How are you guys doing now?"

She suddenly looked at me with a serious expression and said, "He likes me!"

"Huh!" I asked incredulously, "How did you know?"

"His facial expressions don't lie!" Seeing how certain she was, I no longer doubted her.

He asked, "So what do you plan to do?"

Her eyes suddenly dimmed, like a star disappearing into the night.

"That's fine! At least I know he likes me, and that's enough!"

I was suddenly puzzled, and then I heard her sigh heavily and say, "Soon I will be married off to another country as a princess for a political marriage!"

"Marriage is the most important thing for a woman. Are you willing to do it?"

"This is my destiny!" She smiled, her lips curving upwards in a radiant smile, yet tinged with a touch of melancholy in the gentle autumn air.

Since the last incident, Ye Xuanling has become much more distant from Consort Li. He cannot accept how his mother could have become so vicious.

"Your Highness! Consort Li has sent someone to invite you to dine at the palace!"

He frowned slightly, his smile less frequent than before: "Reply to her! Tell her I have other matters to attend to and cannot go!"

Upon hearing this, Consort Li absentmindedly picked up some food and placed it in the empty bowl beside her, smiling with boundless kindness: "Xuan'er, this is your favorite dish, made by your mother personally!"

Ye Xuanling sat at Yanran's door and said to himself, "Yanran, today my mother sent someone to invite me to the palace to dine with her, but I refused!"

He knew Yanran was inside and hoped she would speak to him, even if she scolded him, but half a day passed and no one spoke.

"Yanran, you hate your mother, you hate me, don't you?"

Yanran sat down in the room, her back to him, separated only by a door.

"Yanran, I'm sorry! The one who hurt you was my mother!"

"I couldn't protect you when you needed me most!"

"I often think, if I hadn't let you go that day, if I had gone with you that day, would none of this have happened!"

He sounded incredibly aggrieved, then sighed, "If only time could turn back!"

"Yanran, please don't leave! I just want to see you from afar!"

Yanran tightly covered her mouth, not making a sound. A crystal-clear, pearl-like liquid rolled down her cheek and onto her feet.

Days keep moving forward, one autumn rain brings one chill.
