The Prince Yu's residence was shrouded in white silk and candles, a somber atmosphere prevailing. Who would have thought that Princess Suyun, the Princess Yu's consort, lived in such a desolate state?
Dressed in simple white mourning clothes, she exuded a refined and elegant air, her eyes swollen from crying, larger than walnuts.
He kept murmuring, "My child!"
Yu Shaoqing and I disguised ourselves as maids and infiltrated Prince Yu's mansion.
Her maid, Liu Zhu, said, "Your Highness, the Prince just returned from the palace. He may have gone to investigate the cause of the young prince's death!"
Instead of being pleased, she sneered and said, "He'd love for us, mother and son, to disappear from his sight as soon as possible!"
Yu Shaoqing and I exchanged bewildered glances; it seemed there was something fishy going on.
"Your Highness, the Prince has arrived!"
Prince Yu rushed out from outside, his face extremely grim.
"Greetings, Your Highness!"
He glanced coldly at Princess Yu and said, "Now that An'er is gone, you should take better care of yourself!"
Upon hearing his words, Princess Yu felt a churning in her stomach, and his sharp gaze made Prince Yu tremble involuntarily.
"Doesn't Your Highness feel even a trace of sadness or grief? An'er is your own flesh and blood!"
The constant questioning only made him more agitated, but he couldn't lash out in front of his servants: "I care more than anyone else!"
"Hahaha!" Princess Yu burst into laughter, almost making everyone present think she had gone mad.
"All you care about is the throne and your Princess Murong!"
"Slap!" A crisp sound rang out, and five clear handprints were visible on Princess Yu's face.
"How dare you! I have tolerated you time and time again!"
"An'er's murder was committed by the Prince of Anyang!"
Her eyes suddenly turned terrifying, a strange glint flashing in them: "I know who did it. I only hope that Heaven has eyes and will find the real culprit for my son as soon as possible!"
It seems the couple is having marital problems, and from their words, the young prince's affair is inextricably linked to Prince Yu.
Suddenly, Prince Yu's sharp gaze fixed on Yu Shaoqing. He looked him up and down, then came up to him and asked, "Are you new here?"
I was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, pacing back and forth. If he opened his mouth, everything would be exposed.
Just as she was pondering how to respond, Princess Yu coldly said, "Why is Your Highness interfering with my people now?"
"Hmph!" He snorted coldly through his nostrils and turned away.
Princess Yu didn't even glance at us before saying, "You may all leave! I need to spend some time with An'er!"
We both breathed a sigh of relief and slowly retreated.
The snow stopped, but then it started raining again, and the air smelled damp.
Consort Mo knelt in the snow, her frail body swaying unsteadily, her consciousness fading. It seemed she had been kneeling for a long time.
Ye Liming's hands clenched tightly within his wide sleeves, his face remaining as cold as frost.
Su Wan'er put a grape into his mouth and said, "Your Majesty, Consort Mo has been kneeling outside for a long time!"
He threw the book he was holding heavily aside and said, "Mother and son are the same, always finding ways to annoy me!"
Su Wan'er nestled in his arms, a hint of malice flashing across her pretty face, and said, "Wan'er is afraid that Consort Mo's body won't be able to take it if she kneels down again!"
Hearing this, he smiled indulgently and said, "Wan'er is so understanding!"
Then she added, "The position of the Imperial Guard has been vacant all these years. Isn't the Emperor waiting for Consort Mo to return? How come it's still like this now that she's back!"
Ye Liming raised an eyebrow, not answering her directly but asking instead, "Wouldn't it be alright to give the Empress position to Wan'er?"
Startled, she quickly stood up: "Your Majesty, you're making Wan'er feel terrible!"
