Chapter 215 Fun Things About the Wedding Morning
The morning light shone gently through the paper windows adorned with the character for "happiness," casting a soft glow on the kang (a heated brick bed).
Xu Zhili woke up in a daze, feeling only soreness in her back and waist, as if her whole body had been run over.
She moved slightly and felt a warm body beside her.
Xie Yunze was still asleep, but one of his hands unconsciously rested on her waist, as if he wanted to protect her even in his sleep.
Xu Zhili turned to the side and carefully examined the man beside her who had become her husband.
He was sleeping soundly, and his usually resolute features appeared much softer in the morning light.
She couldn't help but reach out and gently touch his eyelashes, but Xie Yunze suddenly opened his eyes and grabbed her hand.
"A sneak attack?"
His eyes held a languid look, as if he had just woken up, but a smile had already crept onto his lips.
Xu Zhili was startled, then blushed: "Who attacked me? I... I just checked if you were awake."
Xie Yunze rolled over and pulled her into his arms, gently rubbing his chin against the top of her head: "You're awake, you've been awake for a while, but I didn't want to get up, I wanted to see you a little longer."
"What's so interesting about it..."
Xu Zhili buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled.
"There are many beautiful places."
Xie Yunze chuckled, "Beautiful eyebrows, beautiful eyes, beautiful nose, beautiful mouth..."
As he spoke, he leaned closer, and Xu Zhili quickly reached out to cover his mouth: "You haven't washed up yet."
"I don't mind."
Xie Yunze easily pulled her hand away and lightly pecked her lips, "My wife is beautiful no matter what."
Xu Zhili laughed out loud at his words and reached out to push him, saying, "Get up quickly, my mother will be calling us for breakfast soon."
"Lie down a little longer."
Xie Yunze didn't move at all, but instead hugged her even tighter, "You must have been tired yesterday, take a rest."
When yesterday was mentioned, Xu Zhili's face turned even redder.
The excitement of last night seems like it was just yesterday. The whole village came to the wedding feast, and the bridal chamber revelry lasted until midnight.
In the end, it was only because Secretary Liu couldn't stand it anymore that he persuaded everyone to leave.
"You still dare to talk back!" Xu Zhili glared at him reproachfully. "If it weren't for your comrades constantly pouring you drinks..."
At yesterday's wedding, Xie Yunze's soldiers also made a special trip, dressed in neat clothes, and sat down to drink the wedding wine in a lively atmosphere.
During the meal, they took turns toasting the newlyweds, addressing them as "Battalion Commander" at every turn.
"Sister-in-law," the voice boomed, creating an exceptionally festive atmosphere.
"You're quite something, becoming a battalion commander."
Xu Zhili smiled and raised her fist, gently punching his chest.
The force was neither too light nor too heavy, carrying a hint of familiar intimacy, and the smile in his eyes was like starlight falling, "You've kept it well hidden. If it weren't for today's commotion, I wouldn't have known."
Xie Yunze took her wrist in one go, his fingertips bearing the thin calluses typical of soldiers, his voice laced with laughter.
"I'm afraid you'll think I'm bragging, so I'll just let the facts speak for themselves."
Sunlight fell on his shoulders, making his crisp military uniform look even more dashing, which made Xu Zhili stare at him in a daze for a moment.
"Wife, are you looking at me like that because you're lusting after me?" Xie Yunze lowered his head, his warm breath brushing against her ear, his voice slightly teasing and hoarse.
Xu Zhili's cheeks flushed, and she gently punched his shoulder, scolding, "What nonsense are you talking about? You're so unserious."
But he couldn't help but smile, and his eyes brimmed with undisguised joy.
Xie Yunze chuckled and whispered in her ear, "If I hadn't drunk too much, where would I have gotten the guts..."
Before he could finish speaking, Xu Zhili covered his mouth: "Don't say it!"
The two of them laughed and joked on the kang (a heated brick bed). Xie Yunce was afraid she would catch a cold, so he quickly wrapped the quilt around her tightly.
"Stop fooling around, my mother will be here soon, get up quickly." Xu Zhili pushed him.
"What are you afraid of? We're a legitimate couple." Xie Yunze said confidently, but obediently let go of her hand.
Xu Zhili sat up, about to get off the kang (heated brick bed), but with a "hiss," she sat back down.
"What's wrong?" Xie Yunze asked immediately with concern.
"My back... my back hurts," Xu Zhili said softly, her face flushed.
Xie Yunze immediately understood, and a guilty look appeared on his face: "It's my fault. Lie down, and I'll rub it for you."
"No need..." Xu Zhili was about to refuse when he gently pressed her down onto the kang (a heated brick bed).
Xie Yunze's hands were warm and strong, massaging her back with a gentle touch.
Xu Zhili was a little shy at first, but later she felt really comfortable and relaxed.
"Did you learn that in the army?" she asked with her eyes closed.
"Yeah, injuries are common during training. We've gotten used to massaging each other." Xie Yunze professionally pressed her acupoints. "Does it hurt here?"
"It's a little sour..."
"And what about here?"
"Ah...that's it..."
Suddenly, Xu Nuoyan's cough came from outside the door: "Yun Ce, Zhi Li, are you awake? Breakfast is ready."
Xu Zhili was startled and quickly sat up, hurriedly straightening her clothes: "I'm awake! Mother, let's get up right away!"
Xie Yunze couldn't help but laugh at her flustered appearance, which earned him a fierce glare from Xu Zhili.
"It's all your fault!" she complained in a low voice.
"Blame me, blame me."
Xie Yunze readily admitted his mistake and deftly fastened her clothes, saying, "I'll do it."
Looking at his focused expression, Xu Zhili felt a warm current suddenly surge in her heart.
This man, a decisive battalion commander on the battlefield, was willing to do these little things for her at home.
When the two of them finished getting ready and came out of the room, Xu's mother had already set out breakfast.
Simple rice porridge, pickled vegetables, and two boiled eggs.
"Eat quickly, it'll get cold soon." Mother Xu Nuoyan looked at her daughter and son-in-law with a smile, her eyes full of satisfaction.
Xie Yunze first served his mother a bowl of porridge and also gave her an egg: "Mom, you should eat too."
The sound of "Mother" brought tears to Xu's mother's eyes, and she nodded repeatedly, "Good, good, you all eat more."
"Brother-in-law, what about mine?" Xu Zhian brought over his rice bowl, his eyes sparkling, a few grains of rice still clinging to the corners of his mouth, and he smiled expectantly.
Xie Yunze was amused by his appearance and reached out to rub his head: "Don't worry, you'll get your share."
Xie Yunze picked up the empty bowl in front of Xu Zhian, turned around and went to the kitchen to fill a bowl with warm porridge. He then picked up a plump boiled egg from the steamer, peeled it, and handed it over, his movements as natural as if he had done it a thousand times.
"An'an, why do you always boss your brother-in-law around?" Xu Nuoyan watched from the side, her tone slightly reproachful, but her eyes were full of laughter.
Xu Zhian moved closer to Xie Yunce, tilting her little face up and acting spoiled: "No, he's my brother-in-law, so he should pamper me—right, brother-in-law?"
Xie Yunze was amused by him, and gently flicked the tip of his nose with his finger, his voice as warm as the steam in the porridge: "Yes, your brother-in-law spoils you. Eat quickly, the porridge is getting cold."
Xu Zhian immediately picked up the bowl and sipped the porridge, his lips still covered in foam. He even gave Xu Nuoyan a smug nod.
Xu Zhili watched Xu Zhian munching on an egg with his cheeks puffed out, and her eyes curved into crescents with laughter;
