Chapter 109 Discussion

When asked questions by reporters, Xia Baozhu talked a lot about other people, but downplayed her own experiences, calling them insignificant.

"When the flood came in this photo, weren't you afraid to jump in?"

"Everyone jumped at the time, so I jumped too, without thinking too much. This photo doesn't capture the whole thing; even more people jumped later, and there were many people on the shore pulling us up."

Xia Baozhu recounted the process of building a wall of flesh and blood by a hundred people. She was just one of them, and it just so happened that she was filmed. There are many other people who made silent contributions but are unknown to the public.

What other things have left a deep impression on you?

“At the time, this soldier had a tree branch stuck in his back and was bleeding a lot, but he didn’t know he was injured until he got ashore,” Xia Baozhu said, pointing to a blurry figure in the corner of the photo.

As more and more people came to buy food, more and more people came to listen to stories, and it got hotter and hotter, so San Gou even used the kitchen fan to cool himself down.

"What's going on? What are you all doing?" A newcomer, seeing the shop packed with people, stood on tiptoe to peer inside and asked the person in front of him, "What happened? Why is it so quiet?"

"Keep your voice down, someone from the newspaper is here to interview the boss's wife. Just listen and don't say anything."

Xia Baozhu also told many other things that moved her.

San Gou heard a few sobs and looked up to see several elderly women wiping away their tears.

The sight of the vast ocean on television was shocking, and the numbers in the newspapers were chilling.

They also discussed how such a large flood could have submerged an entire island nation if it had occurred there.

But they had no idea that the soldiers on TV who were guarding them faced so many dangers and endured so much hardship.

Just by listening to Xia Baozhu's description, some of them found themselves shedding tears.

As a storyteller, Xia Baozhu's descriptions of things that moved her are very vivid, and she can make readers empathize with her in just a few words.

Even the reporter opposite her had tears in her eyes, her hands constantly taking notes.

Manager Xue's eyes were also red. He was preparing to go back and organize everyone to donate money and supplies again.

San Gou brought each of the reporters and Manager Xue a cup of iced milk tea.

The people who came to buy things then remembered the purpose of their visit, but no one moved; they listened attentively to what Xia Baozhu was saying.

After the interview, the reporter went to check out the kitchen out of curiosity, and sure enough, just as the old man had said, it was cleaner than his own home.

Xia Baozhu took the large leather bag and handed it to Manager Xue: "In return, I'd like to invite you and your family to try our restaurant's specialties."

She then handed the reporter two brown leather bags: "I'd like you to try the food in our shop. If you like it, I hope you can give us a few good words."

After some polite refusals, Manager Xue and the reporter left with Xia Baozhu's gift.

"Xia, you're amazing! You dared to jump into such deep water."

After the three reporters left, the customers in the store swarmed around Xia Baozhu and started talking to her.

“That’s right, Mr. Xia. It’s not good to do good deeds without making a fuss. People should report on you so that everyone can take you as an example and learn from you.”

Each person spoke a sentence, and Xia Baozhu couldn't get a word in edgewise; she could only keep smiling.

That day, the news that the beautiful owner of the fried chicken shop had spent a month in the disaster area doing flood relief work spread throughout the neighborhood.

"Mom, have you heard?" Qian Shijie called out to Professor Deng in the kitchen as soon as he got home, "Xia was away for a while; she went to Jiangdong Province."

Professor Deng didn't go out this afternoon because of the heat. When he heard his son talking about Xia Baozhu's schedule, he didn't react for a moment.

She quickly realized what was happening.

"Going there at that time would have been the most dangerous time, thankfully she came back."

"Xia went by herself; she went with a convoy to help with flood relief."

"What?!" Professor Deng dropped the spatula into the pot. "How could she be so bold?"

"Yes, Xia is much better than me." Qian Shijie picked up the spatula again and stir-fried the shredded potatoes in the pan a few times.

"I remember she was gone for a long time."

The store staff said she went out to take photos, but Professor Deng didn't see her every time he went there, and he was worried for a while until he saw her come back.

"One month."

Qian Shijie couldn't even imagine how a woman could have struggled in the mud for so long.

He felt helpless about the flood, but seeing the soldiers bravely fighting on TV and in the newspapers put his mind at ease, and he donated three hundred yuan as a token of his concern.

He couldn't believe that ordinary people would go to such a far place to help; such a righteous act made it hard for him to connect it with that woman who was as beautiful and delicate as a flower.

He could never dream of such a scene.

In the past, beautiful ordinary women who fell into the water always needed to be rescued by heroes.

But this beautiful woman took on the role of a hero, voluntarily jumping into the flood to save others.

This is more like something a fairy with magical powers in a myth would do.

As far as he knew, Xia was only strong and good-looking; she had no other special qualities.

"I underestimated her. Xia, she's a woman who's just as capable as any man."

Professor Deng sighed, a slow smile spreading across her face. She was delighted that Xia was able to do what they dared not do.

The same words were being discussed in different families.

"Brother, you have no hope." Tiger ran into Chi Zhengshan's room and whispered to him as he was taking notes.

"What's the meaning?"

"Everyone likes the boss lady you like."
