Chapter 16 Leng Minghui Returns

Chen Shanlou escorted Xia Baozhu to the entrance of the alley.

"Thank you so much, Comrade Shen," Xia Baozhu said again.

On the way, Chen Shanlou introduced himself and told Xia Baozhu to just call him by his name.

"Don't keep saying thank you. Serving the people is what we should do. Go back now. If you have any difficulties, you can come to me directly."

Chen Shanlou smiled, believing that his last words would move any woman in a vulnerable position.

"Thank you." Xia Baozhu forced a smile, got out of the car, and waved to Chen Shanlou inside.

The moment she turned her head, her face turned cold and stern.

After the car drove away, Xia Baozhu did not go straight back to the Leng family. Instead, she went to the door of the house where Huang Yao had made her that evening.

He took off his coat and wrapped it around his head, picked up a stone and threw it into the yard, and soon the sound of shattering glass filled the air.

The sound was so crisp, melodious, and pleasant to hear.

An angry and exasperated voice followed.

"Which bastard threw stones at my house? Does he have a death wish?!"

"You fucking wait outside if you dare, I'll beat you to death!"

"You shameless bastard, did someone dig up your ancestral graves? Or did your wife cheat on you?"

Xia Baozhu crouched on the hidden wall, watched the people coming out, and threw a fist-sized stone at the leg of the man spreading rumors.

As the joyful sounds of pig slaughtering echoed through the sky, Xia Baozhu quickly left the scene.

Evil has truly been punished.

Xia Baozhu jumped over the wall into the Leng family's house, and the sound of the door opening startled the three people who were discussing in the main room.

They crowded at the doorway, watching Xia Baozhu, wanting to say some harsh words, but not daring to, so they could only go back inside.

"Why is that bitch back? Did she run away? Should we call the police again?"

Wang Aixiang recalled what she had said to Xia Baozhu in public that evening, and was terrified that Xia Baozhu would come and beat her.

"It's so late, I have to go to work tomorrow, I'm going to bed."

"Anyway, my older brother will be back tomorrow, let him handle it."

After finishing their conversation, Leng Mingguang and his wife took their child and went back to their room.

The next day, Feng Huafang saw Xia Baozhu at her house again and felt a pang of disappointment.

She contacted a distant relative who worked at the municipal party committee and paid her 1,000 yuan to get in touch with a leader in the public security bureau, who said he could resolve the issue quickly and at least detain her for 24 hours.

With this stain on her record, Xia Zhaodi would definitely not be able to work at her house anymore.

Feng Huafang left in a hurry; she needed to find out what had happened.

Leng Minghui finally returned. In order to get back as soon as possible, he bought a plane ticket and took a taxi all the way back after getting off the plane.

"The big boss is back." The neighbors in the alley heard the car and poked their heads out to look.

Then Leng Minghui emerged from the taxi, dressed in a black cashmere coat, his hair combed back like a movie star, carrying a small black briefcase, exuding an air of importance.

"Hello, Aunt Wang, Aunt Niu, Aunt Zhao," Leng Minghui greeted them warmly.

"Minghui is starting to look more and more like a boss."

“That’s right. Every time Minghui comes back, he’s like a different person. He’s becoming more and more like a local from Gangcheng.”

The neighbors' sarcastic praise only slightly displeased Leng Minghui. He looked down on these people, considering them nothing more than frogs in a well, not worth his time to say anything.

Wang Aixiang came out carrying her grandson. When she saw her beloved eldest son finally return, she was so happy she almost jumped for joy.

"You're finally back! Have you eaten? Mom will make you something!"

"No need, Mom, I've already eaten. Little Bao has grown so much, let Grandpa hold him."

Leng Minghui happily took his nephew, hugged him tightly, and kissed him passionately.

"You have no idea how outrageous Xia Zhaodi is these days. She cooks her own meals every day. There's so much work to do at home, I'm so busy that I don't even have time to cook, I have to buy food."

Wang Aixiang hurriedly complained to her son.

"I'll talk to Zhaodi when she gets back. Let's go home first." Leng Minghui didn't want to talk about his family matters outside, so he quickly picked up his nephew and headed home.

"Didn't you bring any luggage this time?" Wang Aixiang looked behind her son and was disappointed not to see the familiar suitcase she usually saw.

"No, I didn't have time. I'll take you to the department store to buy it tomorrow."

"I don't want anything, I'll just save the money."

"Then I'll buy it for Xiaobao. Xiaobao, how about Grandpa buys you a toy car?" Leng Minghui teased the child, and seeing Xiaobao smile made him very happy.

He really should have a child.

Xia Baozhu finally met the male protagonist from the book, as well as everyone in the Leng family, including Leng Yunlan and Leng Yunfeng who were getting married, and their husbands.

The courtyard was filled with chatter as the Leng family members gathered together, a rare occurrence, because of Leng Minghui's return.

However, when Xia Baozhu appeared, the courtyard fell into an eerie silence for a moment, and the harmonious atmosphere was instantly shattered.

"Xia Zhaodi, where have you been running around all day? You don't do any housework, and look how tired Mom is!" Leng Minghui's older sister, Leng Yunlan, put down the vegetables in her hand and spoke first.

"Why should I tell you where I'm going?" Xia Baozhu parked her bicycle, snorted coldly at the people in the yard, and went back to her room.

"Brother, look at how Xia Zhaodi talks! What kind of attitude is that!" Leng Yunlan stomped her foot in anger and turned to complain to Leng Minghui.

Leng Minghui, who was chatting enthusiastically with his two brothers-in-law, suddenly turned pale. He hadn't expected that Xia Baozhu would ignore everyone after entering the room, not even greeting them, including him.
