Chapter 19 Do I Really Have Nothing?

Xia Baozhu was an hour late leaving get off work today because Professor Deng gave her an extra hour of class.

When Feng Huafang heard that Xia Baozhu was going to quit, she outwardly showed a reluctant and regretful expression, but inwardly she was overjoyed.

Today she inquired and found out that Xia Baozhu had indeed been arrested, but was released quickly because there was no evidence.

This made her feel that the person who handled the matter was completely unreliable.

They promised to lock her up for at least 24 hours, but it was less than three hours, costing her a thousand yuan for nothing.

Hearing that Xia Baozhu was leaving, Feng Huafang's steps became lighter. She wanted to find a nanny immediately, and this time she would choose one herself, and she absolutely could not find one who was more beautiful.

A nanny should act like a nanny. She's learning English and piano every day. This treatment is better than that of a landlord's daughter in the past.

Qian Zhitong's reluctance was genuine. He gave Xia Baozhu one of his favorite bilingual (Chinese and English) novels, telling her to come visit when she had time.

Xia Baozhu hummed a song in the night breeze, touched by the warmth of her concern.

Whose heart flies across the sky?

Whose fate is adrift at sea?

A wounded heart doesn't want to speak.

The past and the future are like a dream…

The song "Do I Really Have Nothing," released last year, was played every day in the music store Xia Baozhu passed by; the store owner must really like it.

After listening to it so many times, Xia Baozhu could also sing a few lines.

Under the dim streetlights, her shadow flickered, and occasionally a gust of cold wind blew in, wafting into her loosely stitched scarf, causing her to sneeze loudly.

As she drove through the alley, Xia Baozhu faintly heard a woman crying. She stopped the car and listened carefully. She could also hear a plea for mercy, and the voice was very young.

"I really don't have any money. I'll give it to you when I get my salary this month. Please, I won't go outside."

Xia Baozhu sighed. If she could encounter so many things in just one city, how many would happen nationwide?

She parked the car in an inconspicuous, dark place, so that she wouldn't find it missing after her act of heroism.

I tore a thick branch off a roadside tree, with a few smaller branches still attached. I removed the smaller branches and slowly walked into the alley.

The alley was even darker, so Xia Baozhu used a flashlight to light her way.

"Who?" a rough voice rang out.

Xia Baozhu had already seen the three men in front of her, and the one leaning against the wall was a young woman with medium-length curly hair.

"What are you shining your light on! Get lost!" A tall, burly man was very unhappy with the light shining from Xia Baozhu's flashlight.

"Brother, this is a woman too, why don't we take her with us?" The short, thin man squinted at Xia Baozhu's figure and said to the burly man, his tone filled with obvious excitement.

"She's holding a small stick in her hand. Is she scared walking at night? Let me see what she looks like."

The third man walked over with a grin and reached out his hand to Xia Baozhu's branch.

The branch lashed out at his face, and the man cried out as he covered his face. The other two men immediately began swearing and yelling as they rushed over, trying to grab her.

Xia Baozhu slapped each person once, each slap being both ruthless and precise, slapping them all from their foreheads to their chins.

"Grab her! I'm going to skin her alive!"

The burly man squinted his painful eyes, gritted his teeth, and fiercely chased after Xia Baozhu, only to be slapped in the face again, forming an X.

Soon, Xia Baozhu whipped the three men with tree branches until their faces were unrecognizable, swollen like pig heads.

The woman ran away while they were being beaten.

Hearing the wails, Xia Baozhu happily got back on her bicycle and continued on her way.

Passing by the trash can, she threw the branch she had just used into it.

"Do I really have nothing?"

Where will I anchor tomorrow?

Xia Baozhu was humming a song as she passed a jeep when suddenly the horn blared. She turned her head and saw Chen Shanlou sticking his head out from the passenger seat.

He wore a police cap, which made his face look even more handsome and resolute, exuding masculinity.

"Comrade Shen, what a coincidence?"

Upon seeing Chenshan Tower, Xia Baozhu immediately recalled whether any cars had passed by the alleyway entrance earlier.

It was quite dark there; you couldn't see inside even at the alley entrance unless you looked very closely.

Thinking of this, Xia Baozhu greeted Shen Shanlou calmly.

This Shen Shanlou has an amazing memory and keen observation skills; she can recognize someone without even seeing their face after only meeting them once.

This demonstrates the police officer's ability to identify people. In addition to having strong connections, Shen Shanlou himself is also highly capable in his work; otherwise, he wouldn't have become the deputy director at the age of thirty.

"It's quite a coincidence that you got off work so late?" Chen Shanlou was wearing a police uniform today, and his tone unconsciously carried an interrogative quality.

"My employer has something to do today, so I'll be leaving get off work a little later." Xia Baozhu's tone was calm, neither enthusiastic nor overly cold, which made Chen Shanlou's heart itch.

"It gets dark early now, don't linger outside, go back quickly."

Looking into the dark eyes under the streetlight, which were calm as a deep pool and unfathomable, Chen Shanlou felt a little discouraged. This woman had no feelings for him at all.

Is it because their social statuses are so different that she doesn't dare to think about it?

"Thank you, Comrade Shen." Upon hearing that she was allowed to pass, Xia Baozhu immediately hopped on her bicycle and ran off.

Chen Shanlou had a mission tonight, and he deliberately chose a spot on Xia Baozhu's route home from get off work to stake out beforehand. Unfortunately, his flirtatious glances were completely in vain.

Xia Baozhu felt like she was being swarmed by flies. This wasn't her era; she couldn't just leave whenever she wanted. Now, she had to be mindful of how many people treated her.

Shen Shanlou knew she was a married woman, yet he still dared to provoke her. It was clear he had ulterior motives, and who knows how many people he had already harmed.
