Chapter 28 Opening

Xia Baozhu eventually hired San Gou as her kitchen helper.

San Gou used to work as a temporary worker in the canteen of the factory where his mother worked. His parents and sister also had jobs, so their living conditions were not bad.

He had previously wanted to follow Sun Xingyan to the south to make his fortune, but his family stopped him. In a fit of anger, he quit his job and spent his days lounging at home.

However, his parents didn't stop him from playing in the city with Sun Xingyan, because although Sun Xingyan was also playing, he had several sources of income that were more than the family's combined salary over twenty years of working.

When Xia Baozhu asked Sun Xingyan where she could find someone to help in the kitchen, San Gou immediately raised his hand.

This infuriated Sun Xingyan, who felt that San Gou had gotten his head caught in a door.

Sun Xingyan was angry not because San Gou was working in the kitchen, but because San Gou knew that Xia Baozhu was married and had a man, yet he still insisted on being a sycophant, truly living up to his name.

"I'd like to." San Gou held his head high, not taking Sun Xingyan's insults to heart at all.

"Fine, but don't let me find out you've done anything wrong."

Sun Xingyan sized up San Gou's 170cm tall, cylindrical body and concluded that San Gou might not be as strong as Xia Baozhu, but he still warned San Gou to respect female comrades.

"I'm not as filthy as you think; my mind is perfectly pure," said San Gou, the warrior of pure love, praising himself.

"Fine, you're all innocent. You'll regret this." Sun Xingyan sneered. It's no wonder that simps never have a good ending.

San Gou's real name is Zheng Zhenfeng. He is an only child in his family, and they gave him the humble name San Gou out of pity.

After receiving a brief training from Xia Baozhu, San Gou officially started his job.

He had a chubby face covered by a chef's hat and mask, and a white chef's coat over it.

The way he stands there, he looks like he's got the makings of a chef.

San Gou repeatedly stabbed the chicken leg with a fork, while Xia Baozhu scooped a bowl of black pearls from the pot.

Black pearls are what's used in bubble tea. They're made from tapioca starch and brown sugar. It's very simple; it's just a bit tedious to cut them into small cubes and knead them one by one.

The preparation method belongs to the pastry category, and the finished product has a bouncy, ball-like texture.

A pot of black tea was boiling. After it boiled, Xia Baozhu took a bag of milk powder, poured it in, stirred it, and then added caramel.

Caramel is simply boiled sugar, with a slightly burnt aroma.

Next comes filtering; filtering it twice will make it even smoother.

Set aside some of the milk tea and pour the rest into a large insulated container.

Xia Baozhu took out a tall glass, poured in milk tea, added a spoonful of tapioca pearls, and made three cups in this way, each with a straw inside.

"Xiao Zheng, this is for you. Try the milk tea and see how it tastes."

Xia Baozhu drank her own cup of milk tea. The taste of the additive-free milk tea was just okay. It would be better if the milk flavor were stronger.

San Gou picked up his cup and carefully took a sip; it was a little too hot for his mouth.

"Sister Xia, what's this called? It's fragrant, sweet, and delicious."

"Hong Kong Island Pearl Milk Tea," Xia Baozhu said with a smile, making up a name.

"Sister Xia, have you ever been to Hong Kong Island?"

"No, Xiao Sun told me about this."

Speak of the devil, and he appears; Sun Xingyan pushed open the door and swaggered in.

"Mr. Xia, is my milk tea ready?"

"Okay, I was just about to send it over to you."

Sun Xingyan was repairing chairs next door when Xia Baozhu said she would be making bubble tea for her opening today. He immediately thought of his ten cups of bubble tea.

Xia Baozhu chose to open this morning because there are more people coming to play in the neighboring screening room and nearby on Saturday.

Today I prepared 100 fried chickens and 80 pounds of boneless chicken feet. I also made salad dressing, mayonnaise, and spicy sauce to go with the fried chicken.

Xia Baozhu was a little nervous, afraid that if she couldn't sell all the goods, it would be a huge blow to her.

She used to run a flower shop; whether she made money or not didn't matter, as long as she had something to do.

Things are different now; how well she sells will affect her future financial fortune.

For the opening, she specially bought a red cotton coat, made several major alterations, and transformed it from bulky to fitted, creating a completely different style.

Although the chef's uniform on the outside prevents you from seeing inside, it gives a different feeling, making her look more slender and graceful.

Selling things dressed as a bear would probably seem out of place with the store's decor and the slightly higher prices.

People pay more attention to first impressions.

The fried chicken was arranged on the wooden counter, filling three large wooden trays. Next to it were three kinds of sauce: milky white, milky yellow, and bright red, all packaged in tall glass jars, their colors pure and appealing.

Boneless chicken feet were placed in a glass cabinet, served in two large white square bowls, looking clean and appetizing.

On the glass panel in the middle of the counter were rows of beautiful, transparent glass cups.

Below is a milk tea insulated container.

The entrance is marked with the four large characters "Jin Ri Kai Ye" written by Sun Xingyan. Even before the doors opened, a crowd had already gathered outside, curiously peering inside.

After everything was tidied up, at exactly nine o'clock, Xia Baozhu personally lit the firecrackers that had been placed outside.

Crackling and popping, a vibrant and bustling scene.

"Our shop is open today! For any purchase of ten yuan or more, you'll receive a free bubble tea. This offer is valid for today and tomorrow only." San Gou placed the promotion sign at the entrance and read it out loud.

What is bubble tea? Does it contain tapioca pearls? What is milk tea?

"You'll know once you try it. It's sweet and delicious." San Gou took off his mask and acted as a greeter, gesturing for the onlookers to come inside.

People who entered stared at the row of fried chickens on the counter as if they had seen a pile of gold.

The crispy, golden-brown crust and the irresistible aroma of meat instantly whetted my appetite. My stomach began to rumble, and my mouth watered uncontrollably.

"Miss, give me three fried chickens, and I'll have some chicken feet to try. That'll cost ten yuan in total."
