Xia Baozhu squeezed the bicycle handlebars impatiently, trying to maintain a smile: "What is it?"
“I noticed that you have installed glass and wire on your yard wall. Your neighbor said that he heard a loud noise from your house a few days ago, similar to gunshots.”
Chen Shanlou stared into Xia Baozhu's eyes, and when he saw her eyes look elsewhere, he smiled.
She could think of building protective measures on the courtyard wall, which means someone must have jumped over it before.
Since Xia Baozhu is standing here unharmed, it's definitely not her who's injured.
She dealt with the petty thief herself.
As for the loud noise, it could be the sound of fighting, or it could actually be gunfire.
These words made Xia Baozhu feel that she had nowhere to hide her secrets.
This Chen Shanlou is like a wolfhound with a keen sense of smell; he takes even casual remarks seriously.
"There were mice in the house, so I hit one with something," Xia Baozhu replied, still using the same excuse.
"What can you hit to make a gunshot sound?"
Xia Baozhu paused for a moment, then immediately replied, "Thermos."
"The sound of a thermos breaking must not reach the neighbor's yard."
Shen Shanlou's expression gradually turned serious. Although his face was mostly covered by his helmet, his aura became even more oppressive.
"I'm strong."
"Or you could go home and smash another thermos, and I'll stand outside in the yard and listen to see if it makes a gunshot."
"You're asking too many questions." Xia Baozhu finally lost her patience. She glared at Chen Shanlou, her tone becoming harsh.
“I am a police officer, and of course I have to find out the truth when I encounter something suspicious.” Shen Shanlou’s eyes were firm and unyielding.
"Alright, come with me." Xia Baozhu gripped the handlebars tightly, mounted the bike, and pedaled hard, treating it like a sinking mountain tower.
Chen Shanlou followed behind on his motorcycle with a broad smile.
They quickly entered the alley, and Xia Baozhu pushed the car into the courtyard.
Chen Shanlou parked his motorcycle at the entrance of the courtyard.
Xia Baozhu stood in the courtyard, gritting her teeth. When she saw him come in, she swiftly pulled out the stick behind her and swept it across him.
Chen Shanlou moved very quickly and immediately performed a backflip on the spot.
Chen Shanlou was chased by the fierce wind of the stick, constantly dodging in the courtyard. He reacted quickly and moved fast, and although he was on the defensive, he did not appear disheveled.
"Xia Baozhu, you'd better think this through. This is assaulting a police officer!"
“I could also say you’re being a hooligan.” Xia Baozhu’s stick moved with graceful and powerful movements, sometimes chopping, sometimes tapping, sometimes flicking.
"You can try to see if anyone believes what you say. I suspect you are involved in multiple criminal cases. You will come with me to the police station for investigation."
When Chen Shanlou was hit on the arm by the wooden stick in Xia Baozhu's hand, he became really angry and pulled out a pistol from his pocket, aiming it at Xia Baozhu.
"Let's see if your stick is faster, or my gun is faster. You resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer, so I have every reason to shoot. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be injured anywhere on your body." Chen Shanlou sneered, his voice not loud, but undeniably authoritative.
Looking at the dark muzzle of the gun, Xia Baozhu reluctantly threw down the stick in her hand, her anger from before dissipating considerably after seeing the gun.
She should have been more patient and not acted impulsively, giving Chen Shanlou an excuse to break off relations with her.
Chen Shanlou took out the handcuffs he was carrying and approached Xia Baozhu.
Xia Baozhu had seen this silver bracelet on television and in movies, but she never imagined that one day she would wear it herself.
“I won’t wear this.”
"That's not up to you." Chen Shanlou grabbed Xia Baozhu's wrist and sneered, "Xia Baozhu, if you dare to do something, you have to be prepared to take responsibility. If you insist on doing something you're not sure about, then you should be prepared to fail."
After she finished speaking, Xia Baozhu's left wrist was handcuffed with cold handcuffs, and she shivered from the coldness.
"Are these handcuffs clean?" she suddenly thought of a serious question.
"Don't worry, it's cleaner than what you do in secret." Chen Shanlou grabbed Xia Baozhu's right wrist and handcuffed it with another handcuff.
"I didn't do anything, so why are you saying I'm dishonest?" Xia Baozhu said angrily. Being wrongly accused for no reason, her temper flared up again.
"You know in your heart whether you did it or not." Chen Shanlou pulled Xia Baozhu's arm and walked out.
"Comrade Chen, could you please wrap my hands with some clothes?" Xia Baozhu took a couple of steps but then stopped, her tone softening.
“No need for a bag, it’s dark and we can’t see.” Chen Shanlou continued to pull her, but this time he couldn’t move her. “Don’t force me to carry you.”
"I was wrong, Comrade Shen. I shouldn't have hit you just now." Xia Baozhu still refused to leave; she had lost all face by taking this person with her.
"What did you say?" Chen Shanlou picked at his ear, indicating that he hadn't heard clearly.
"I was wrong." Xia Baozhu raised her voice. She couldn't possibly fight against someone who had both guns and power, unless she gave up her identity.
Most people will just tolerate the grievances they suffer and let them go, because the cost of not being able to tolerate them is too high.
Just like Xia Baozhu now, the more fun she felt fighting before, the more she regrets it now.
“I warned you earlier, but you didn’t listen. Now you’ve admitted your mistake, but it’s too late. Just assaulting a police officer is enough to put you in jail for several days. Instead of living a good life, you’re going to sleep in a dormitory-style room infested with lice and fleas and reflect on your actions.”
Even the tough-as-nails Xia Baozhu turned pale with fright at the mere mention of fleas and lice.
"I was really wrong, Comrade Shen, please forgive me. I will never dare to do it again next time."
"You want a next time? It seems you haven't truly repented."
"No, no, there won't be a next time, I promise."
"Alright, go write a letter of repentance first."
Chen Shanlou had just been hit by Xia Baozhu. In the past ten years, apart from being thrown during training, he had never been hit by anyone. He would never let her off easily.
"I'll write it, but can you take off the handcuffs?" Xia Baozhu felt she had never been so humble.
She will not act unless she is absolutely certain.
Xia Baozhu glanced at the pistol in Chen Shanlou's arms and suppressed the urge to snatch it. If she really took it, the crime would be even more serious.
Chen Shanlou unlocked the handcuffs on Xia Baozhu's right hand, but left them on her left.
Xia Baozhu silently opened the door to the east wing and turned on the light.
She sat awkwardly at the desk and took out paper and pen.
Chen Shanlou closed the door to block out the cold air and looked around the room, which looked like it hadn't been renovated long ago.
The items are simple, reflecting the obsessive-compulsive tendencies of a woman living alone. Everything is clean and tidy, with a subtle fragrance that is refreshing and pleasant.
He walked to a wall where a landscape poster was displayed. He tapped it with his hand, and it produced a hollow echo.
