Xia Baozhu turned her head and looked at Chen Shanlou with a hint of nervousness. Her gaze met his eyes as he turned to look at her, and Xia Baozhu forced a smile.
Chen Shanlou has such sharp eyes that he can find even the slightest clue. If he were to uncover that poster, she would have to go through a lot of trouble to explain herself.
Xia Baozhu suddenly felt very tired.
Under Shen Shanlou's gaze, Xia Baozhu looked at the letter again.
How do I write this letter of repentance?
Chen Shanlou looked around and soon found another spot, on the inside of one of the bed legs of the wooden bed.
This time he confirmed that Xia Baozhu had been threatened with a gun in this room.
Who was it? Is that person still alive? And where did the gun go?
Shen Shanlou's deep gaze lingered on Xia Baozhu's retreating figure. This woman was truly audacious; he was determined to get to the bottom of this today.
Xia Baozhu felt Chen Shanlou's gaze and had a bad feeling. Could it be that he had discovered something again?
She awkwardly moved the handcuffs on her left hand, feeling that they were very dirty.
Chen Shanlou had used it to arrest countless criminals. The thought of those criminals not bathing and being filthy made her feel uneasy and uncomfortable.
"Comrade Shen, may I ask if there is a format required for writing a letter of repentance?" Xia Baozhu turned her head to look at Shen Shanlou, whose gaze was cold and detached.
"Write down the mistakes you made, sincerely repent, and then write down how you will correct them in the future."
"Okay." Xia Baozhu turned around with an awkward smile, but Shen Shanlou's expression made her look rather unpleasant.
This is really treating her like a criminal.
With nothing else to do, Chen Shanlou picked up a magazine from Xia Baozhu's desk and started reading.
Hearing the sound of pages turning, Xia Baozhu thought for a moment, then picked up her pen and began to write.
She quickly wrote about hitting Chen Shanlou that day, saying she mistakenly thought Chen Shanlou was a lecherous man and couldn't see his face clearly in the dark, which is why she accidentally hit him.
Because she was afraid that if she wrote the truth, Shen Shanlou would use it as evidence of assaulting a police officer, so she didn't pay attention to, notice, or see such words throughout the entire text.
Then write a sincere apology.
"Is this the letter of repentance you wrote?" Chen Shanlou's gloomy voice suddenly appeared in Xia Baozhu's ears, startling her.
"Yes, I truly repent." Xia Baozhu lied through her teeth, her eyes full of false sincerity.
Chen Shanlou was momentarily captivated by her clear and innocent eyes, but quickly chuckled again.
Are you afraid I'll use this letter of repentance as evidence of assaulting a police officer?
"No."
“You’re still lying to my face,” Chen Shanlou patted Xia Baozhu’s shoulder gently, amused by her stubborn resistance at this moment.
"Alright, stop writing. I'll ask you questions and you answer. If your answers satisfy me, I'll let bygones be bygones today, how about that?"
"Ask away." Xia Baozhu threw down her pen and turned over the letter of repentance she had just written.
"Did you do the Silver Cabaret incident?" Chen Shanlou leaned against his desk, arms crossed, looking down at Xia Baozhu.
"No," Xia Baozhu answered readily.
"Let's go then." Chen Shanlou reached out to grab Xia Baozhu's arm.
Xia Baozhu quickly asked, "You didn't say what it was about?"
Chen Shanlou released his grip: "You broke the lights in the dance hall, and you caused Zhou Juan's injuries, didn't you?"
“Yes.” Xia Baozhu’s voice was barely audible, but Chen Shanlou only wanted the truth and didn’t ask her to repeat herself.
"Were you threatened with a gun by a man in this room?"
"yes."
"How did you escape?" Chen Shanlou looked at the roof.
"I jumped onto the roof beam, and they came in without noticing me."
A scene instantly flashed through Shen Shanlou's mind: with Xia Baozhu's martial arts skills, it wouldn't be difficult for her to subdue six people from a superior position.
How many of them are there?
Six.
Where are they?
“I had them help me with the work in the kitchen.”
Upon hearing this, Chen Shanlou looked at her as if he had discovered a new continent: "You really have a knack for this. Aren't you afraid they'll poison your food or steal things from your shop?"
“I know their home address and the details of everyone in their family.”
"Xia Baozhu, you're really something! It's a real loss that you didn't end up in the police station. Where's the gun?"
"On the roof beam of the main room."
"You know how to use a gun?"
"Won't."
"Why did they come?" And the fact that six of them came at once means they must know Xia Baozhu's abilities.
"It must have been Leng Mingguang who sent them."
"So, are you going to take revenge on Leng Mingguang, your former brother-in-law?"
"I don't want to, after all, he was my former brother-in-law." Xia Baozhu opened her extremely sincere eyes wide, making Shen Shanlou's throat itch.
He suddenly remembered that Xia Baozhu still hadn't taken off her mask.
He was so used to her wearing a mask when she spoke to him that he didn't feel awkward when she came indoors.
Wearing it is good, to avoid inciting people to commit crimes.
"Remember, if something similar happens again, tell me as soon as possible."
Shen Shanlou never imagined that any divorced woman's life could be so exciting, with revenge and counterattacks hidden beneath her seemingly peaceful existence.
"Understood, Comrade Shen," Xia Baozhu replied honestly.
Chen Shanlou sneered, not believing she could listen to him at all, and picked up the letter of repentance in front of her to read it carefully.
"Have you practiced calligraphy?"
"I've practiced it."
"Didn't you only have a third-grade education? When did you start practicing calligraphy?"
"I practice at home when I have nothing else to do."
Chen Shanlou placed the letter of repentance on the table, his long, strong fingers pointing to the bottom, and said, "You didn't write your name, and there's no date."
"Do I still need to write it down?" Xia Baozhu didn't want to write her name down; it felt like writing it down would condemn her.
"Yes, it is necessary." Chen Shanlou emphasized.
Xia Baozhu could only sign her name and write the date.
Chen Shanlou put away the letter of repentance, wanting to say a few more words, when suddenly he glanced at a stack of manuscript papers with writing on them, picked one up and read it.
After skimming through the text, Chen Shanlou turned to the next page.
"Did you write this?"
"right."
"I never expected you to write such a story with a third-grade level of education." Shen Shanlou emphasized Xia Baozhu's third-grade level of education, as if he thought she was faking it.
“I like reading storybooks, and after reading a lot, I tried to write them myself,” Xia Baozhu explained calmly.
"Is Hua Baoshi your pen name?"
"right."
"I just saw this name in a magazine. Did you write the article there?"
"yes."
"In which other magazines have you published articles?"
Xia Baozhu pointed to a stack of brand-new magazines on the table.
"These are all."
"Then let me borrow it for a couple of days." Chen Shanlou handed over the magazine without any hesitation.
Xia Baozhu could only laugh awkwardly at this robbery.
"Since you've behaved quite well, I'll unlock you." Chen Shanlou pulled Xia Baozhu's left hand and unlocked the handcuffs.
"Thank you, Comrade Shen." Xia Baozhu gave a sincere smile and expressed her gratitude.
