Town
Since Sheng Yanjun took over Sheng Yanchuan's job, he has not been doing very well. The work here is very unfamiliar to him. Because of his dull personality, he rarely asks questions even if he doesn't understand something.
At first, everyone treated him with care because he was Sheng Yanchuan's brother. But every time they joked with him, Sheng Yanjun either remained silent or said something unpleasant that made everyone feel awkward. As time went by, everyone stopped actively approaching Sheng Yanjun.
In this way, I had to figure out all the details of the basic work by myself. Although I didn't make any big mistakes during this period, I kept making small mistakes.
Aunt Xiumei called at the time when Sheng Yanjun just corrected a mistake.
"Hey, Junzi, if you have nothing to do after get off work at noon, go to your brother's place and tell him that a leader is coming to your house. He and Qiaoqiao are both provincial champions and have been admitted to universities in Shanghai! Ask them to come back when they have time."
As soon as Sheng Yanjun picked up the phone, he heard a burst of bombardment on the other end of the line.
To Sheng Yanjun, these words were like bombs bombarding him. Everything was not going well for him, but it seemed that there was nothing that Sheng Yanchuan could not do. The huge gap made it impossible for him to face these things. A feeling of powerlessness emanated from the bottom of his heart.
"Hello, Junzi? Did you hear me?" After waiting for a long time for Sheng Yanjun to reply, she urged him anxiously. If she could not hear the noise on the other end of the line, she would have thought that the call was not connected...
"I understand. I'll go there at noon." Sheng Yanjun took a deep breath, suppressed his annoyance and replied.
"Okay, if you have something to do, just go ahead and do it." Aunt Xiumei was somewhat aware of Sheng Yanjun's current unhappiness, so she didn't continue to ask. Sheng Yanjun was not in a good mood after get off work recently, probably because things were not going well at work, but Aunt Xiumei felt that this job must be tricky at first, and he just needed to learn and adapt slowly, so she didn't worry about his current state.
Sheng Yanjun listened to Aunt Xiumei's words, hummed solemnly and hung up the phone.
Take a deep breath and go back to the factory to work.
At noon when he got off work, Sheng Yanjun said hello to his colleagues in the same group and left the factory, heading towards Sheng Yanchuan's home.
At this time, every household was cooking. The aroma of food wafted through the air. After being busy all morning, he was now starving.
When Sheng Yanjun arrived at the door of Sheng Yanchuan's house, he went forward and knocked on the door. The person who opened the door was Aunt Zhou, who had just finished cooking and was about to call Nanqiao and Sheng Yanchuan to come down for dinner.
Seeing that the person coming was Sheng Yanjun, Aunt Zhou hurriedly smiled and welcomed him in.
"It's Junzi, come in quickly, Xiaoran and Xiaoche, your uncle is here," Aunt Zhou shouted to the two kids playing in the living room.
Sheng Yanjun was pulled into the house by Aunt Zhou. Looking at the two children lying on the window in the room, Sheng Yanjun asked, "Are Yanchuan and Nanqiao at home?"
"Yes, yes, I'm packing upstairs. I'll be down soon." Zhou Yi shouted upstairs again until he heard Sheng Yanchuan's voice.
Sheng Yanjun sat on the sofa in the living room, waiting, drinking a cup of hot tea brought by Aunt Zhou.
"Brother, is there something urgent?" Sheng Yanchuan asked as he walked downstairs. It's not that he disliked Sheng Yanjun coming over, but it was mainly because Sheng Yanjun had never come over by himself in such a long time. When he suddenly came, Sheng Yanchuan was worried that something had happened at home.
"It's okay. Mom called this morning and said that you two passed the college entrance examination. A leader has gone to the village, so you can go home when you have time." Sheng Yanjun put down his teacup and said expressionlessly.
"Okay, we plan to take the kids back tomorrow," Sheng Yanchuan said with a smile.
"Okay, I'll go back to the factory first," Sheng Yanjun said as he was about to leave, but was stopped by Sheng Yanchuan.
"Brother, let's eat first before we go. I guess there won't be any food left in the factory cafeteria when you go back. We haven't eaten either. Let's go together."
Sheng Yanjun thought about it. He still had two steamed buns in his cupboard. He wouldn't be hungry if he didn't have any food. But it was really choking. After hesitating for a while, he said, "Okay, I'm sorry to bother you."
"What's the problem?" Sheng Yanchuan said to Xiao An and Xiao Che, "You two should go wash your hands and get ready for dinner."
While Xiaoran and Xiaoche were washing their hands, Nanqiao came down from the building. Seeing Sheng Yanjun, he smiled and said, "Big brother is here."
Polite but unfamiliar, Nanqiao has always had this attitude for so many years, and she doesn't think there is anything wrong with it now.
But Sheng Yanjun didn't know why, he suddenly remembered that when Nanqiao first came to the village, he always had a cold face towards other families, only their family was an exception.
Every time she came, she would bring gifts and call people with a sweet smile, "Auntie, Uncle, Brother, Sister-in-law," in the soft Wu dialect that is unique to southerners.
But I don't know when it started. Although Nanqiao still called his family, his voice had changed, with indifference and distance.
"Brother, please sit down and eat!" Nanqiao looked at Sheng Yanjun who was stunned and asked again.
"Oh, okay, I was thinking about other things, sorry." Sheng Yanjun came back to his senses and sat down
After Sheng Yanjun sat down, he saw a table full of food, including chicken stewed with mushrooms, stir-fried cabbage, pot-fried pork, egg soup, and white rice.
Sheng Yanjun's visit was decided in the morning, so this table of food was not for entertaining him, but because people usually eat like this.
He suddenly thought about how he felt that Nanqiao was just after their family's money when they got married. It was really ridiculous.
The food was delicious, but Sheng Yanjun felt like chewing wax while eating it, and felt bitter in his heart. The closer he got to their lives, the more he felt the gap between them. It was a gap that could not be crossed.
