Chapter 17 A Great Responsibility Descended from Heaven

After speaking, Chao Ci posted the imperial edict on the imperial notice board and returned to the palace with his guards to report back.

Only a group of people were left standing there in shock.

As soon as Chao Ci left, they started discussing it amongst themselves.

Passerby A: "What?! Your Majesty actually apologizes to your subject?! This is the first time I've ever seen anything like it!"

Passerby B: "That's right! Emperor Wende's edict of self-reproach was at least an apology to his daughter, but the new emperor is different."

Passerby C: "The new emperor has only been on the throne for a short time and is still young, so it's normal for him to punish the prime minister in a fit of anger."

Passerby Ding: "Although the Prime Minister is old, he is still in good health. This punishment should be harmless to him."

Passerby Wu: "Both emperors of the Night Dynasty were wise rulers. Now that the new emperor has issued this edict, he will undoubtedly be a wise ruler as well!"

Meanwhile, the fake passersby—who were actually officials—immediately gathered in a private room at the teahouse and began to analyze the new emperor's actions.

With each word and phrase, they clearly discerned the Emperor's intentions.

The final conclusion was that although the prime minister had angered the emperor and was punished, the emperor valued the prime minister highly and even wrote an edict of self-reproach. From now on, one must never offend the prime minister in court!

The Prime Minister in the next private room: ...?

When Xu Qian woke up, he found himself in Xingde Palace. Feeling that he was not a member of the royal family and that it was inappropriate for him to be in this place, he left the palace.

He prepared to return to his residence to write a letter of apology and personally deliver it to the emperor.

Before they even returned to the Prime Minister's residence, they heard a commotion in the street. When they sent someone to inquire, they learned that the Emperor had just issued an imperial edict, and his female attendant was preparing to read it aloud to inform the people.

So, with mixed feelings, he went to a private room in the teahouse to listen to Chao Ci read out the imperial edict.

Unexpectedly, this was a short apology letter written by the emperor. Even more unexpectedly, the officials were discussing the matter nearby. And most unexpectedly, because of this letter, he no longer had to be bothered by other officials.

The officials next door, completely unaware that the person in question was there, left after discussing the matter, even starting to talk about what delicious food they would eat later...

Xu Qian fell silent again, mentally scrolling through his mind: You are the head of all officials, keep your composure!

A familiar electronic voice announced, "Congratulations on completing the side quest—Received the Emperor's Apology. The quest took ten years, one month, and eight days. Rewards have been issued!"

Upon hearing this voice, Xu Qian remembered that he had this side quest, which he had completed in this way today.

To understand the origin of this electronic sound, we must go back to the time of its birth.

He was born in the tenth year of the Xinye era. From birth, this electronic voice was talking in his mind, but as an infant, he could hardly understand a word of it.

Later, when he was able to understand what was being said, he discovered that this electronic voice had made him a prime minister before the age of 45, saying that this was his main task and that there would be a high reward for completing it.

But he encountered a new problem: what was this electronic voice? And what was the Prime Minister? But he couldn't speak yet, so no one could solve his doubts.

Finally, after years of relentless chanting by the electronic voice, five-year-old Xu Qian finally understood that the electronic voice was a deity (?) who had come to bestow a great responsibility upon him.

Under the tutelage of the immortals, he learned many words different from those used today, and his thoughts became unique.

Feeling that he was no ordinary person, he began to tell his parents that he had met a deity and that he wanted to become the prime minister! His parents, in turn, indulged him and spent all their wealth to send him to the Imperial Academy, hoping that he could achieve something and fulfill his dream.

Located next to the imperial palace, Xiaoyuan boasts a superior geographical location and abundant educational resources. Founded by Chu Qiaoling, it admits students regardless of family background or social status, focusing solely on character and aptitude. It has cultivated numerous outstanding talents and is the most prestigious academy in the Night Dynasty, bar none.

Crown Prince Chu Qianyun and Second Princess Chu Yanxi also studied here.

Xu Qian was the youngest student at Xiaoyuan and received a lot of care from many people, including Chu Yanxi. The two became very good friends.

Later, at the age of twenty, he completed the task given to him by the gods and received a side quest, but unlike before, this quest had a one-month time limit...

Then comes this side quest, which, like the main quest, can be completed before the age of 45.

The emperor at the time was still Chu Yanxi. He didn't take the task seriously at all, because Chu Yanxi would never apologize to him.

Unexpectedly, it was completed by accident.

Xu Qian thought of the 'immortal' he hadn't seen in a long time and couldn't help but sigh: "Immortal, you taught me many principles since I was a child, which made my thinking different from others. Later, I met like-minded people, which surprised and delighted me, and I completed the task you gave me ahead of schedule."

But later... I found myself gradually changing, becoming no different from ordinary people. I started to run away and became worldly and sophisticated, which is consistent with what you call 'feudalism'.

Today's events were also due to my overly rigid thinking. Back in Xiaoyuan, Li Yuan took good care of me. Although I was more than ten years older than him, we could still get along well. Now that he has suddenly passed away, Xiao'er wants to posthumously honor him, but I couldn't help but refute her.

Being punished is understandable, but Xiao'er actually wrote a self-reproach edict, disregarding the emperor's authority. Meanwhile, I'm still bound by rules and regulations; I'm truly inferior even to a junior…”

After reminiscing about the past and reflecting on himself, he received no answer from the 'gods,' but instead received a shocking surprise:

"What kind of deity? What kind of mission?" Chen Xiao asked as he pushed open the door.

It turned out that Chen Xiao had just left the palace when he received news that the Prime Minister had not returned to his residence. So he came to the teahouse to find him, intending to have a momentous display of affection between the ruler and his subject that would "astound heaven and earth and make a name for themselves in history."

As soon as they arrived at the door of the private room, they heard Xu Qian's voice coming from inside. They thought Xu Qian had guests and were about to give way, but when they heard the word "immortal", they decided to stay and listen for a while.
