Chapter 23 Like Smoke and Wind

Feng Li gave Chen Xiao a wink, and Chen Xiao immediately understood. He grabbed Feng Li's hand and ran into a rouge shop on the street. The spies behind them also wanted to enter the rouge shop, but the shop owner disliked men and refused to let them in. Seeing that Chen Xiao was about to notice them, they had no choice but to retreat and lie in ambush outside.

Seeing that they were temporarily blocked, Chen Xiao didn't waste any words and directly used her money power: she took out a stack of silver notes and stuffed them into the shopkeeper's hands, saying that she wanted to go out through the back door. The shopkeeper took the thick stack of silver notes and assumed that they were daughters of some wealthy family who were hiding from bodyguards, so he smiled and let the two of them go out through the hidden door in the backyard.

Fifteen minutes later, the spies realized something was wrong. They randomly picked a woman on the street, gave her some silver, and sent her to a rouge shop to look for Chen Xiao and Feng Li. However, the shopkeeper said he hadn't seen the two of them. Only then did the spies realize that they had been shaken off.

The spies were busy preparing to return to report, but before they could get back to the mansion, they were taken away by Ye Yu, and the Qi mansion was secretly taken over by Ye Yu's men.

Some of the beautiful ones had even been sold to the kite brothel by Qi Yuan.

Now we can use this pretext to detain Qi Yuan.

Chen Xiao only took Feng Li and Ye Li with him to visit the prefect, while the rest of the guards went to monitor the Qi residence.

When the three arrived at the prefect's residence, before they could even show their tokens, they were ushered inside by the servants. The three looked at each other, feeling that the prefect was a bit strange, as if he knew they were coming.

Before they even reached the main hall, the prefect came out to greet them, immediately knelt down before Chen Xiao, and shouted, "Long live the Emperor!" The other servants followed suit and knelt down as well.

Chen Xiao frowned slightly. "Rise, all of you! I am here incognito today, so there is no need for such a grand procession. I have matters to discuss with the governor, and the rest of you may leave."

So the servants all dispersed, leaving only the prefect kneeling on the ground, not daring to get up.

The prefect buried his head in the ground, trembling as he begged for forgiveness, "Your Majesty, I am guilty! I deserve to die! I beg Your Majesty to punish me!"
