Chapter 14: Not Allowed to Go Out

It continued to rain for the next two days, but fortunately the rain was much lighter and visibility was much better. I could see what was happening in the yard even from inside the house.

Lu Yunxi had been secretly sharpening arrows before going to bed at night, preparing to go up the mountain to find his father.

Now she was particularly thankful that the courtyard of her home was built in a three-story style, and her room was close to the mountain outside. If it were the original room, if she was secretly sharpening arrows in the middle of the night, the noise would have alarmed her mother long ago, not to mention finding a way to run out and look for someone!

After making the weapon, she checked her preparations to see if there was anything she had missed.

Bow, arrows, backpack... That's right! She clapped her hands.

She suddenly remembered that her mother was with her during the day, so she could only sneak out at night. Without light, she couldn't see anything! She had to bring a torch!

Of course, carrying a torch would also make her a target, but at least if her father saw the fire, he would probably guess that there was someone there and would walk in her direction.

After a few days of preparation at home, she was about to leave in the evening.

The center of the village suddenly became noisy, with the sounds of running and shouting intertwined.

My mother was startled by the noise outside and she covered her chest and gasped rapidly.

Lu Yunxi put down what he was holding and quickly patted her on the back.

"Xier, mother will go outside to see what happened!" Hearing the noisy sounds outside, Lu Yu Niang's heart sank involuntarily.

Ignoring her daughter's objection, she quickly changed her clothes.

However, just as she was putting on her shoes, someone knocked on the Lu family's door.

Lu Yunxi was urged by her mother and had to go open the door first.

"Lu family - is that you? Xier? Where is your mother?" The person who came was an aunt from the village, and her face looked unhappy.

"My mother is in the house, auntie, what happened in the village?"

"Oh!" The aunt sighed deeply, touched her head, and with a trace of pity in her eyes, "You and your mother should go see Doctor Sun!"

When Lu Yu Niang came out, she happened to hear what the visitor said, and her body stiffened involuntarily.

Both mother and daughter had a bad feeling.

The two hurried to Doctor Sun's house.

"Lu family, Xier, you should be mentally prepared! The injuries on Dahu's body..." Doctor Sun looked at their dazed expressions and couldn't help shaking his head and sighing deeply.

This sigh seemed to be stuck in Lu Yunxi's heart.

Looking at her father lying on the bed, her heart seemed to be blocked and she couldn't breathe.

Blood kept flowing from the hideous wound, staining the floor red.

The other villagers left quietly, leaving space for the family of three.

"Xi'er," Lu Dahu smiled with a pale face, "Do you still remember the 'Lu Family Archery Technique' that Dad taught you? The remaining parts are in the woodshed, go look for them... From now on, it's just you and mother left at home, so you have to take good care of yourself."

After saying that, he subconsciously raised his hand, but found that even with all his strength, he could only raise it one knuckle.

Lu Yunxi held back her tears and leaned forward so that he could put his hand on her head.

"Dad, I will take good care of Mom, don't worry." She said softly.

After saying that, Lu Yunxi left the room, leaving it to his parents.

When she walked out the door, she heard the faint sighs of the villagers outside.

"Why is Dahu so badly injured?"

"Oh, I heard it started raining suddenly, and I slipped and fell. Half of my hands and feet were injured. Who knew I'd run into a wild boar again... That's bad luck!"

"It's a good thing that Doctor Sun met me when he went up the mountain, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see him for the last time..."

The villagers' voices gradually faded away.

Lu Yunxi covered his chest, closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths.

So uncomfortable...

*

Since his father left, Lu Yunxi has never left the house and has been staying with his mother during the day.

Fortunately, I have a vegetable garden in the backyard of my home with all kinds of vegetables, so I don’t have to worry about having nothing to eat.

Or rather, her mother is now keeping a close eye on her, not letting her run away.

In the past, her mother only taught her simple things, and she was allowed to go out and play if she wanted to.

But now…

Throughout the day, except for eating and bathing time, her mother kept a tight rein on her and didn't even allow her to practice her ancestral archery skills.

Whenever she wanted to practice martial arts, her mother showed unusual resistance.

Lu Yunxi had to put aside his training temporarily and concentrate on accompanying his mother.

The two sat together quietly, the needles in their hands flying.

"Mom, look at the flowers I embroidered. Are they beautiful?" After spending several days, Lu Yunxi managed to embroider a flower. She handed the embroidery cloth to her mother and glanced at her expression.

"Am I very powerful? The legendary genius refers to someone like me, right?!" Looking at her mother's pale face, she barely suppressed her worries and pretended to be complacent, hoping to make her mother happy.

Lu Yu Niang took the embroidery cloth, examined it carefully, and nodded with a smile.

"Of course you're a genius! A handkerchief like the one you're embroidering now can be sold for about ten coins in town. Once you become proficient, you'll be able to embroider a whole handkerchief in less than a day. A sachet is usually fifteen to twenty coins! However, if your craftsmanship is particularly good, even a sachet handkerchief can be sold for a very good price." She took out the embroidered handkerchiefs and sachets from the embroidery basket and introduced them one by one. "Why don't you try embroidering a small sachet? Let me see how you do."

Lu Yunxi didn't say anything and began to embroider seriously according to the techniques her mother taught her.

Lu Yu Niang glanced at her daughter beside her and sighed inwardly.

She knew that her daughter wanted to learn the Lu Family Archery Technique, and she also knew that her husband hoped that the ancestral archery technique could be passed down, but she really couldn't accept it!

She has already lost her husband, and she absolutely cannot lose her daughter!

In the past, her husband was always fine when he came back from hunting, so she was relieved. But what about her daughter? Girls are naturally not as strong as men, and she is only nine years old, still a child!

How can I feel at ease when she's going out hunting?!

Her husband has not yet taught his daughter all his skills, so she can only read books and learn the rest on her own. But there is a big difference between just reading books and having someone to guide you!

After thinking about it for a long time at home, she finally decided that instead of letting her daughter learn hunting and go on adventures in the mountains every day, it would be better for her to learn embroidery from her!

Although her embroidery skills are not up to par with masters, they are still very good. The large pieces she embroiders can be sold for hundreds of taels of silver. Apart from those embroidery masters, no one can compare to her!

As time went by, Lu Yunxi's embroidery skills improved significantly, reaching a beginner's level.
