The women in the hall were horrified when they saw the officials rushing in.
"Gentlemen, why did you suddenly break into our house? Is it because someone in our family has made a mistake?" Mrs. Cui walked over carefully and stuffed a purse into the leader's pocket.
The leader touched the silver in his purse and nodded secretly.
"The prefect said that the gold ingots he left in the mansion are missing. Someone saw the thief heading towards North Town, so we came here to look for him."
After saying that, he waved his hand impatiently and stopped talking.
Mrs. Cui secretly winked at the people around her.
Cui Shishi received her signal and quickly walked to the village entrance while no one was paying attention to her.
A few days ago, Master Shen became interested in the town next door, so he and his brothers and younger brothers went there. It's been several days now, and I'm afraid they'll have to come back. If they happen to run into these officials when they return, they'll be doomed. Aside from going to Wuzhou for business, these exiles can't wander around for the first year; if they're caught, they'll be sent to prison.
She stood at the entrance of the village and waited for a long time, but she never saw her brothers. Perhaps they would not come back soon.
Cui Shishi breathed a sigh of relief, but she didn't know that the Cui family was in chaos at this time.
"Take them all away!"
"No, sir! Listen to me, we really didn't steal it! We don't know how this thing appeared here! I..." The third wife of the Cui family was so anxious that her mouth was about to blister, and tears rolled in her eyes, but she held them back and dared not let them fall.
However, she did not realize that she was the only one who was anxious about this matter. The other members of the Cui family remained silent, with either mockery or indifference in their eyes.
"Sir..." Madam Cui San couldn't help crying, but when she turned around, she saw the strange expressions of her family members and couldn't help but pause.
"Mom, aunt, what's wrong with you?! Speak quickly! We don't have any gold ingots on us!!" She didn't understand why everyone was silent and stomped her feet in anger.
Lu Yunxi felt secretly helpless. With the exception of the youngest, Cui's third wife, everyone had probably guessed what the gold ingots were. If the Cui family had gold ingots, would they still be living like this? They were most likely brought in by an official, specifically to embarrass them.
Seeing that the officers were about to arrest them without any hesitation, Mrs. Cui took a deep breath and stepped forward to negotiate with the leader: "Sir, this girl is just passing by. She just came in to rest her feet and drink a bowl of water. She has nothing to do with our Cui family. Please be flexible."
As she spoke, Mrs. Cui pointed in the direction of Lu Yunxi.
Unfortunately, although the police had just taken the Cui family's purse, they had no intention of letting them go.
He snorted coldly: "Madam Cui, whether this girl has any relationship with you or not, you should talk to the adults. I am just following orders."
After saying that, he turned his face away impatiently and shouted at his subordinates: "What are you still standing there for?! Don't let any of them go!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the officers who had been slowing down their movements suddenly started to act rashly and quickly tied up all the people in Cui's family.
After tying them up, the officers stood quietly there, waiting for the leader's orders.
The chief officer waited for a while, and seeing that everyone was standing there quietly, he couldn't help but frown: "What are you all standing there for?! Can't you see there are only women here?! Where are the men?! Why don't you go and arrest them?!"
The officers were stunned for a moment, then they all said, "Sir, we have searched the yard thoroughly, and there are only these few people here, no one else!"
"What?! Why don't you go look for him outside? If he's not here, he must have gone out! A bunch of idiots!" The veins on the forehead of the chief officer were throbbing with anger, and he was burning with anger.
The officers responded and rushed out in a hurry.
Madam Cui quickly stopped him: "Sir, the men and women in our family have been assigned to different towns. They are not here."
The chief officer was startled and narrowed his eyes: "How do I know if you are lying to me?!"
"Sir, we were separated because of the order from the prefect! We dare not lie about this!" Mrs. Cui looked at Cui Shishi, who was standing outside the door with her back to the chief officer and peeking around, and her palms were instantly soaked with sweat.
Mrs. Cui was secretly anxious. She wanted to signal, but she didn't dare to show it too obviously.
They were all trapped here and couldn't leave, but the officers didn't know about Shishi, so she ran away quickly!
Fortunately, Cui Shishi also heard what the leader of the police officers said and quickly hid herself.
In the end, except for Cui Shishi, all other female family members were thrown into jail, including Lu Yunxi who was involved.
*
In the cell, after passing through a long corridor, Lu Yunxi and his group were pushed into the same cell.
"Go in!" The officer behind him said in a cold voice and pushed him.
The Cui family members were weak and could not withstand the force at all, and almost fell down.
Lu Yunxi quickly stepped forward to block the attack, preventing Mrs. Cui from losing both her life and her life on the spot.
For some unknown reason, although the officers locked them up, they did not handcuff their hands and feet.
She started wandering around the cell, touching and looking around.
Unfortunately, this cell is just an ordinary cell and there is no secret room or mechanism. Apart from the door, there is only a very tall and small window. There is some straw on the ground, and no one knows what it is used for.
There was no one in this cell originally, and they were the first group to come in. The cells they passed by earlier did have quite a few people in them, but there were also quite a few empty cells, so they didn't know how they were allocated here.
Lu Yunxi casually tidied up the straw on the ground and sat down.
