The snow fell heavily all day, covering the whole world in a silvery white. The old plum tree in the yard was bent over by the weight of the snow.
"Cough cough..." A three-year-old girl was wrapped in a thin blanket. She was coughing incessantly, and her thin face was flushed red from coughing.
The maidservant beside her quickly put down her needlework, hurried to the bedside, touched the little guy's flushed face, and felt the burning heat. She subconsciously took a few steps back and shed two lines of clear tears.
"What should we do? Miss has a high fever and we need to call a doctor, but we're both locked inside the room." Xiao Tao paced anxiously around the room, wishing she could just break down the door and get out.
Not long ago, she and Miss Huaichan were flying kites outside when the kite suddenly fell and crashed to the ground, frightening the master and mistress's own child, who was then locked in the room.
They haven't eaten for a day now, and Xiao Tao, being older, can go hungry for a day or two.
But the girl is only three years old. She hasn't eaten for so long, and with the change in weather, she caught a cold and has been coughing ever since. Now she has a high fever.
Finally, she gritted her teeth and pounded on the wooden door: "Master, Madam, please come quickly! Miss is delirious from the fever and her life may be in danger!"
The Huai family's courtyard wasn't very big to begin with, and her loud shouting was quickly heard by the woman and the master over there.
"Master, Xiao Chan probably caught a cold. You should go and fetch a doctor to take a look, in case something serious happens..." Madam Huai said softly.
"In this snowy weather, why bother calling a doctor!" Master Huai put down his teacup, his brow furrowed. "It's just a cold; a bowl of ginger soup will do the trick."
“But…” Madam Huai hesitated greatly. “Even if Xiao Chan is not our biological daughter, we have raised her for three years.”
“We had no children for over ten years. After we bought Xiao Chan, we had twins. The neighbors all said that Xiao Chan was destined to have siblings, which brought us this blessing. Is it not right to treat this child this way?”
"What do you know, you're just a woman!" Master Huai sneered. "Doesn't it cost money to hire a doctor?"
"We've treated her well for three years, that's already quite generous of us, what more do you want?"
The two parted on bad terms, and Madam Huai sighed again.
Since giving birth to twins, her health has deteriorated rapidly. Now she can only offer advice to her husband, but she can't even get out of bed herself and doesn't know if she can make it through the winter.
"Master, master, the fortune teller who told Miss's fortune before is here again. He's waiting for you outside!" An old woman walked in from outside.
"What? The master actually came in person! Quick, quick, invite him in! We must treat him well and not neglect him!"
When Master Huai thought of that master, he thought of the master's evaluation of his children, and he became extremely excited.
Not long after, a man dressed in a cotton robe was invited in. He sat upright in a grand chair, holding a cup of tea in his hands, and carefully examined the pair of twins in front of him.
"Master Liu, you said before that my son has a noble destiny, is that true?" Old Master Huai paced back and forth below.
Ever since he heard Master Liu's words three days ago, he has been unable to eat or sleep, and has been asking around to find the master's whereabouts. Now, he has finally been able to see the master again.
Seeing the master's serious expression, he felt a little uneasy. Could it be that the master had made a mistake?
“Of course it’s true, but these twins aren’t the ones with noble destinies. Where did that girl go? Why can’t we see her?” Master Liu’s eyes flashed.
“How could it be Xiao Chan? She’s just my adopted daughter, whom I bought casually from a farming family.”
Master Huai shook his head in disbelief.
If someone has a noble destiny, they should at least be his biological son or daughter. How could an outsider have such a destiny?
"Since you refuse to let me see that young lady, then I'll take my leave!" Master Liu put down his teacup.
"Wait, my daughter is in the other courtyard!" Master Huai hurriedly ran out. "Bring Chan'er here quickly, and be fast!"
Xiao Tao, who was locked in the room, originally thought that the master and madam had finally agreed to find a doctor for the young lady, so she happily ran over with the little one in her arms. But when she arrived, she saw this scene.
"Master, this is..." She subconsciously took a few steps back.
"Quickly, let Master Liu take a look at Miss!" Master Huai said reluctantly.
"Indeed, the forehead is full and the brow is dotted with cinnabar. The purple aura and golden light intertwine in the center of the brow. This is an extremely precious destiny!" Master Liu's face was filled with joy.
Purple aura and golden light! Upon hearing this, Master Huai's eyes flickered incessantly.
Could this be the destiny of a true dragon emperor or empress?
It's ridiculous that such a precious destiny has appeared on a little girl.
"Master Liu, Chan'er is my daughter. She's just a little girl, and such a destiny is of little use to her. Is there any way to exchange her destiny with my son's?"
He licked his lips, his face full of longing.
What Grandpa Huai really wanted to ask was whether he could exchange this fate with himself, but he was also very clear that he was too old to bear such luck.
"This kind of heinous act is truly putting me in a difficult position! Fate is predetermined; can it be exchanged at will? I'm afraid your eldest daughter cannot bear such a price!"
