The iron hairpin moved like lightning. Fang Niangzi, with her agile figure, dodged the blade coming at her with a sidestep and stabbed the soldier's wrist with the hairpin.
Blood splattered, the soldier screamed, and his steel knife clattered to the ground.
The surrounding villagers roared and rushed forward, wielding hoes, shovels, and machetes in a gleaming display, forcing the mighty army's cavalry to retreat repeatedly.
"This is impossible!" Kan Dadao's eyes widened. His soldiers were all fierce warriors who had tasted blood, how could they be no match for a bunch of peasants with farm tools?
But that's just how reality is.
Although these villagers' moves were not sophisticated, they were fearless and some even pounced on the horses and grabbed their legs, dragging the cavalrymen off their backs.
Even more bizarrely, their strength was astonishing; a frail old man could break a soldier's arm bone with a single blow from a carrying pole!
"General! Something's wrong with these people!" the lieutenant cried out in alarm, clutching his bleeding cheek.
Enraged, Kan Da Dao suddenly blew his horn.
Dust billowed in the distance as another troop of cavalry galloped in, and the dark mass of reinforcements quickly surrounded the village.
"Hahaha!" He laughed wildly, pointing his blade directly at the villagers. "Just some villagers from one village? I have tens of thousands of soldiers! I can cut you all to pieces with a single blow each! Now kneel down and beg for mercy, and I might spare your corpses!"
Fang Niangzi was panting heavily, and blood from her forehead slid down her cheek.
She glanced back at the injured villagers and shouted through gritted teeth, "Retreat! Get into the mountain temple!"
Supporting each other, the group stumbled and staggered towards the temple, which was neither too big nor too small.
However, the temple was too small to accommodate everyone. A group of old men, wiping away their blood and tears, resolutely walked out of the temple, holding half of their farm tools, and looked at the mighty army in front of them with their heads held high.
"Grandpa! Grandpa, don't go out!"
"Grandma, let me help you!" A child struggled inside the temple, tears streaming down his face.
For a time, the entire mountain god temple was filled with the cries of children.
"Child, don't cry. We are old now, so let's do our best until the very last bit!"
"As long as you stay inside the mountain god temple, they won't be able to break in! Whatever you do, don't come out!"
The old men held their farm tools firmly, then slammed the temple doors shut.
"No, no!" Some children were being pulled along, but they still lunged at the wooden door.
Kan Da Dao grinned maliciously and waved his hand: "A door made of mere broken wood, you think it can stop my army? How laughable! Chase them! Leave no one alive!"
The soldiers swarmed forward, their blades flashing, about to hack at the last few staggering, fleeing villagers—
"boom!"
Suddenly, the mountain god temple burst forth with dazzling golden light, which spread outwards like a tide.
The soldier at the forefront seemed to have crashed into an invisible high wall, and was sent flying backward, crashing heavily several feet away.
Kan Da Dao's mount neighed in fright, rearing up on its front hooves and throwing him violently off its back!
"Ah!" He fell onto the frozen mud, his ribs throbbing with pain. He struggled to lift his head and saw the entire army lying scattered about, their cries of agony echoing throughout the land.
In front of the mountain god temple, Fang Niangzi knelt on both knees, clasped her hands together, and her eyes glistened with tears: "The mountain god has shown her power, thank you for your mercy!"
"Thank you for your help, Goddess of the Mountain! Thank you for saving us once again!" The villagers prostrated themselves on the ground, their foreheads pressed against the cold stone steps, their expressions fervent and devout.
"Those who blaspheme the mountain god shall die!" Fang Niangzi once again held the iron hairpin and rushed out from the front of the temple like lightning.
The group of mighty soldiers, already injured by the golden light, were coughing up mouthfuls of blood and unable to get up.
Even the mighty general leading the group collapsed in the snow, staring in horror at the scene before him.
"Whoosh!" Fang Niangzi pounced over and plunged the iron hairpin in her hand into the neck of the mighty general.
"No!" Kan Dadao didn't believe it. He was a mighty general! He commanded tens of thousands of troops, and even the imperial court was cautious when facing them, barely managing to win a battle.
They are now acting in a high-profile manner in Liangzhou, and even the imperial court does not dare to stand up for them, which is why they can be so arrogant!
He was a powerful and ruthless man, yet he was stabbed in the neck by a weak woman.
Blood splattered and flew onto the nearby snow, staining large patches of it red.
"General!"
"General, we're here to protect you!"
Not far away, another army arrived. These soldiers were completely unaware of what had happened and glared angrily at Madam Fang in front of them. The deputy general in charge was about to rush forward.
"No, don't go!" Kan Dadao was terrified; he had never seen such a strange power before.
For a moment, he thought of the strange demons and monsters his great-grandmother had told him when he was a child.
There are truly many strange demons in this world that are impossible for humans to fight against!
"Go, go, take me with you!" He forced out those words in a hoarse voice.
"No, don't, don't provoke..."
"But..." The lieutenant, seeing how badly General Wei Wu was injured, wished he could just kill all those people!
"Take me with you, heal me..." Kan Da Dao said weakly.
The lieutenant then carried the general on his back and had his men quickly lead the others away on horseback.
As he left, Kan Dadao desperately opened his eyes, staring in terror at the temple. Above the temple, it seemed as if a deity was coldly watching him.
"Run! Run!" he cried out.
"General, this is the fastest we can go! The snow on the road is too thick!" the lieutenant said anxiously.
"Pfft!" Kan Dadao coughed up another mouthful of blood and fainted.
The mighty general remained unconscious in his tent for three whole days, and it took countless doctors to barely recover.
Upon waking, Kan Dadao immediately grasped the general's hands, sobbing uncontrollably, "Strategist, I should have listened to you and instead provoked that mountain god temple!"
The strategist, who had just packed his bags and was preparing to slip away, was speechless.
How did you wake up so conveniently? Is he going to run away or not?
"Strategist, I'll listen to you from now on! Let's find another place and stop recruiting soldiers in Liangzhou!"
Kan Da Dao cried for a long time, and even blood spurted from his neck.
Ling Xian sighed, "It's good that the general is aware of this."
"Where does the general intend to go next?"
Kan Da Dao's eyes darted around for a while, then he suddenly slammed his hand on the bed: "Let's go to Qingzhou! We're going to kill our way to Qingzhou, we're not going to stay in Liangzhou anymore!"
"This place is absolutely terrifying!"
Only Ling Xian frowned; he had a feeling that Qingzhou was also in danger.
