Chapter 256 The Tragic State of Yan

Meanwhile, in the State of Yan.

At this moment, the Yan Kingdom, especially the several states near the Henggen Mountains, was shrouded in desolation and despair.

The great flood had just receded, leaving behind not fertile land, but devastation.

Houses collapsed and fields were completely destroyed.

The plague spread, and people were displaced.

Yunzhou is the most tragic corner of this hell on earth.

The floodwaters receded, leaving behind a trail of silt.

The dilapidated village was like a ghost town, with the air filled with the stench of decay and blood.

To make matters worse, a rebel group called Dawn was operating in the area.

This rebel army is led by a powerful plague demon.

Wherever the plague demon passed, life was cut off, and the land was left barren for miles.

Countless people were caught in the double whammy of floods, mudslides, and plagues.

Struggling desperately, their lives were as insignificant as grass.

At this moment, inside a relatively intact but dilapidated house in Yunzhou.

The three brothers, Niu Da, Niu Er, and Niu San, were looking at the disaster victims struggling to survive outside the temple with sorrowful faces.

They were advance personnel sent by the barren mountain to investigate the situation.

Niu Da frowned, his rough hands clenched tightly, his knuckles turning white.

"Yunzhou is a hundred times more devastating than we imagined!"

Niu Er slammed his fist into the broken wall beside him, sending pebbles tumbling down.

"No matter how strong we brothers are, how many people can we save?"

"Those disaster victims were so hungry they didn't even have the strength to stand up, let alone be affected by that damned plague demon!"

Niu San is the youngest and relatively more thoughtful.

He pointed to the distance, his voice trembling slightly.

"Big brother, second brother, look over there..."

The group looked in that direction and saw skeletons that hadn't been buried yet!

And countless others lay dead by the roadside, their fate unknown...

It was a scene of utter devastation, a living hell.

The three brothers looked at the scene before them, where corpses of the starving were everywhere and bones were exposed in the wilderness.

Even the toughest man would feel a pang of heartache at this moment, and a deep sense of helplessness would well up in his heart.

They possess divine power bestowed by the goddess, yet they have no foundation in this place.

The food and medicine brought were just a drop in the ocean for these tens of thousands of disaster victims.

Just as the three were at their wits' end, a flash of light appeared inside the temple.

A slender figure appeared out of thin air; it was Liang Shu, who possessed the ability to teleport.

As soon as Liang Shu landed and saw the surrounding scenery and the solemn expressions of the three Niu brothers, her beautiful eyebrows furrowed tightly.

"Niu Da, Niu Er, Niu San, is this Yunzhou? What's the situation?"

Upon seeing that it was Steward Shu, Niu San immediately bowed and pointed outside in a heavy tone.

"Steward Shu, you, you can see for yourself."

"Most of Yunzhou has probably become a dead zone."

"The flood had just passed, and the people hadn't even had a chance to catch their breath when the plague demon spread the disease everywhere, and rebels took advantage of the chaos to loot."

"As we traveled along, all we saw were ruins and corpses everywhere."

"Those who survived were mostly emaciated, no different from walking corpses."

"The air reeked of death, and on the ground, you could even see patches of gnawed bones..."

As Niu San spoke, he pointed to several scattered skeletons in the distance.

The faintly visible teeth marks on the bone sent chills down one's spine.

Even though Liang Shu had witnessed countless power struggles within the Marquis's mansion, her mindset had become much more peaceful after her rebirth.

At this moment, I was trembling with fear, a chill running from the soles of my feet to the top of my head.

She could almost imagine the horrifying things those desperate disaster victims would do when they were starving to the extreme.

She felt a tightness in her chest, almost making it hard to breathe.

Just as Liang Shu was reeling from the hellish scene before her, an even more piercing cry and commotion suddenly erupted outside the temple!

"He's here! He's here!"

"The plague demon is coming again! Run!"

The screams of terror from the people rose and fell, their trembling tones filled with despair.

In an instant, the area around the dilapidated temple, which had previously been somewhat populated, became chaotic.

In the distance, a thick gray fog, like the gaping maw of a living beast, was sweeping toward them at a visible speed!

The mist churned and roared, carrying a bone-chilling cold and a dense aura of death.

Amidst the mist, a slender yet eerie figure slowly emerged.

It was a male-shaped demon, its entire body displaying an ominous crimson color.

Her long, jet-black hair cascaded down like a waterfall, almost dragging on the ground.

He held a blood-red paper umbrella in his hand, the same color as his skin. The umbrella was exquisite, yet it emitted an eerie light.

When walking, it seems as if its feet do not touch the ground, but rather it is three inches off the ground, floating in gracefully, yet sending chills down one's spine.

"It's a plague demon!"

Niu Da let out a low growl, his eyes flashing with vigilance and anger.

The gray mist spread extremely quickly, like the scythe of death, mercilessly reaping lives.

Wherever the fog passed, vegetation withered, life ceased, and even the air became thick and foul-smelling.

Countless people, like lambs being chased by wolves, desperately fled in the opposite direction from the gray fog.

Cries, screams, and desperate wails rose and fell, weaving together a tragic dirge.

In the crowd, an elderly woman with gray hair was holding a boy of about four or five years old tightly in her arms, while also holding a slightly older girl tightly in her hand.

Her small feet were already worn and bleeding, and she staggered with every step, almost falling over.

But the old woman disregarded her own pain and did everything she could to protect her grandson in her arms and her granddaughter beside her.

He muttered to himself, "Quick, run! Get away from that gray fog..."

However, how could the elderly, the weak, women and children outrun the rapidly spreading fog of death?

The gray mist was about to engulf them.

A resolute glint flashed in the old woman's eyes.

She stopped abruptly, and with her last bit of strength, threw the boy in her arms and the girl beside her forward with all her might!

"Run! Run! Don't look back!"

The two children were thrown several meters away by her sudden and tremendous force, staggered a few steps, and fell to the ground.

They turned around in horror, only to see their grandmother instantly enveloped by the boundless gray fog!

"Please, please help..."

"Please save my grandson and granddaughter..."

The old woman's hoarse cries for help abruptly ceased in the gray fog.

Other refugees, barely able to save themselves, dared not look back.

Even though the gray fog completely engulfed the old woman's figure, her wide-open eyes were still fixed on the direction the two children had fled, her eyes wide open in death!
