Just as everyone was wondering.
A faint, extremely weak voice, as if the person might die at any moment, came from beneath the heavy deck.
"Hello……"
The voice was intermittent, carrying a hint of despair.
"Up there, is there any kind-hearted demon who would do me a favor...?"
"Some of our people are dying, they're about to pass away!"
"Even if you need people, you have to let us live, right?"
The discussion on deck abruptly ceased.
The group exchanged glances, their expressions instantly hardening.
A beautiful demon?
Lin Anniang and Wang Wan exchanged a glance, both seeing the gravity in each other's eyes.
Zhong Yan reacted the fastest. She scanned the deck with sharp eyes and quickly walked to a seemingly ordinary edge.
She bent down and carefully explored the rough wooden board with her slender fingers for a moment.
"Found it!"
A hint of joy flashed in Zhong Yan's eyes.
"There's a clip here!"
With a forceful pull, a thick section of the deck in front of her flipped open with a soft crack, revealing a dark hole.
A strong musty and unpleasant smell wafted over.
The blinding sunlight suddenly poured down, illuminating the scene below the cave entrance.
A ragged, emaciated boy was struggling to grip the edge of a makeshift wooden ladder.
He seemed to have not seen the light of day for a long time, and squinted as the sudden light shone on him.
When he could barely make out the figures standing on the deck, he was taken aback.
The boy's face was full of confusion, and he asked in a hoarse voice, "Who are you? Where are those demons?"
After everyone finished introducing themselves, the boy seemed to understand something.
His tense expression relaxed a bit, but he still waved his hand and warned, "Don't stay on this ship. It's an evil ship. If they come back, they won't let this go and will definitely kill you!"
Thinking of this, the boy instinctively hugged his shoulders, his expression filled with terror.
Seeing his expression, Zhong Yan softened her tone and said gently, "We are people sent by the Mountain Goddess. Those evil spirits have been driven away."
"Mountain Goddess?"
The boy's eyes first showed confusion.
Suddenly, those dim eyes burst forth with unbelievable ecstasy.
"They chased them away? They really chased them away?"
His voice trembled, his face flushed with excitement, and his eyes instantly welled up with tears.
"That's great! That's great!"
Overjoyed, the boy wept, ignoring his aches and weakness, and slid down the ladder almost using both his hands and feet.
He staggered toward the deeper darkness, screaming with all his might.
"We're saved! We're saved!"
"Those evil spirits have been driven away! People from outside saved us! Someone has come to our rescue!"
The boy's shouts echoed in the deathly silent lower deck of the ship.
Like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, it instantly stirred up a thousand waves.
"What? We're saved?"
"Really? Little Liu, you're not kidding us, are you?"
"Who was it? Who saved us? Are those damned demons really gone?"
In the darkness, a rustling commotion first arose.
Immediately following were suppressed sobs and cheers.
And the chaotic sounds of pots and pans being overturned.
"Waaaaah, finally, finally I'm saved..."
"Thank God! I thought I was going to die here!"
"Quick! Help me up! I need to see! I need to see it with my own eyes!"
In the dim light filtering through the cave entrance, one could vaguely see thin, frail figures struggling to stand up.
They supported each other, their eyes sparkling with excitement.
Like a prisoner long trapped underground, finally seeing the dawn of rebirth.
Seeing this, Wang Wan immediately led everyone down the river.
They went down the ladder to the bottom of the cabin.
Upon entering, a mixture of sweat, blood, and putrid odors assaulted the senses.
The stench caused everyone to involuntarily frown.
The sight before them made their hearts sink, and a surge of anger rose from the depths of their hearts.
All I could see was the dark, damp, and foul-smelling lower deck of the ship.
Dozens of people were lying or sitting haphazardly.
These people were almost all skin and bones, with sunken eyes, sallow complexion, and chapped lips.
Some huddled in dirty corners, barely breathing, as if they would die at any moment.
Some lay on simple straw mats that smelled of mildew, groaning in pain.
"This is no place for a human being!"
Even Jiang Dashan, a man who had seen countless life-and-death trials in the army, couldn't help but grit his teeth at this moment.
His fists were clenched so tightly they cracked, and his eyes were red-rimmed.
"These beasts!"
Xia Yan looked at the group of people in front of her, and a thought suddenly struck her.
Her gaze swept over several sections of the ship's interior walls, the structures reinforced with special welding techniques, and she asked with a complicated expression.
"Did you help build these giant ships? Are you from the modern era? Or a technologically advanced one?"
As soon as Xia Yan finished speaking, an old and trembling voice rang out from the crowd.
"A time traveler? You're a time traveler too?"
The crowd looked in the direction of the sound and saw an old man with gray hair who was so thin that he was just skin and bones.
Supported by two equally weak young men, he was struggling to walk towards them.
A startling light burst forth from the old man's cloudy eyes.
"Great! Great! I've finally seen my own people!"
Before the old man could finish speaking, tears streamed down his face, and he trembled with emotion.
