Yu Luo smiled faintly, and with a thought, she understood.
In an instant, the wooden sculpture inside the dilapidated wooden house suddenly burst forth with dazzling golden light!
The golden light seemed to possess a life of its own, precisely enveloping each devoutly kneeling transmigrator.
Lawyer Yun Xin felt a warm current flow through her body, and her bones made a series of soft cracking sounds, as if they were being reshaped.
In the blink of an eye, the golden light dissipated.
Yun Xin, the engineer, and the doctor, who were originally kneeling on the ground, have now turned into stark white skeletons!
The ghostly blue soul fire flickered in its eye sockets, just like those old-timer skeleton soldiers I'd seen before, and even more intensely!
"Oh my god! We really have turned into skeletons!" An engineer shook his bony arm, overjoyed.
"So cool! Those bones, wow, so white!" Another engineer tapped his ribs, making a crisp sound.
The doctor in the white coat jumped up and down excitedly, shouting, "I feel so powerful! Those damned skeleton overseers, I'll smash their heads in!"
Yun Xin felt the strange power surging within her body, the soul fire in her eye sockets flickering. She clenched her bone claws and said in a deep voice, "Let's go! Back to the construction site! Rescue people! And while we're at it, stir up some trouble!"
"Yes! Let's stir things up!" The crowd roared in agreement.
A group of newly recruited skeleton soldiers, led by a college student skeleton soldier, sneaked back into the huge construction site in a grand manner.
They did the same thing, carrying away some of the people, who were then tempted and turned into skeleton soldiers as well.
In a short time, the number of skeleton soldiers visibly increased significantly, and the blue flames in everyone's eyes burned brighter and brighter.
…
At another construction site, several real skeleton soldiers were wielding bone whips, brutally lashing an old man with white hair who was curled up on the ground.
"You old fool! Stop dawdling! Don't you want to live anymore?!"
Enraged, Yun Xin, who had transformed into a skeleton soldier, rushed forward and snatched the bone whip from one of the skeleton soldiers' hands!
"Smack!"
With a backhand lash, he struck the arrogant skeleton soldier hard!
"You skeleton, are you looking for death?!" Yun Xin shouted sharply, mimicking the rude tone of the overseers.
The skeleton soldier was stunned, clutching his cracked bone, and roared, "What are you doing? Are you crazy?"
Yun Xin lashed out with her whip again, cursing, "Do you know who this is? This is the chief architect of our Skeleton God Palace! If you damage him, who will complete the palace blueprints? When will the palace be repaired? What are you up to? Are you trying to delay His Majesty the Skeleton God's grand plan?"
The skeleton soldier who was being hit grimaced in pain, and another skeleton soldier next to him shouted, "Nonsense! He's just an old prisoner! We're disciplining a prisoner, what's it to you!"
He pointed at several skeleton soldiers patrolling not far away and shouted, "Soldier Captain! He's attacking us! He's protecting prisoners!"
Several skeleton soldiers walked over upon hearing the sound, their soul fire in their eye sockets sweeping over them with an air of authority.
Yun Xin showed no weakness and gave a skeletal salute to the approaching skeleton soldiers: "Seniors, please be wise! These two idiots almost crippled the chief architect of our palace! If this delays the construction schedule, who among us can bear the responsibility if His Majesty the Skeleton God blames us?"
Upon hearing this, the soul fire in the empty sockets of the skeleton soldiers flickered, and they found it to be quite reasonable.
One of the skeleton soldiers nodded and said in a deep voice, "Yes, that's right. The construction of the palace is of paramount importance. Delaying the process is indeed punishable!"
He turned to the two skeleton soldiers who had been beaten and scolded, "You two, look carefully before you act next time! If you dare to mess around again, you'll regret it!"
The two skeleton soldiers who had been hit were dumbfounded. They clutched the spots where they had been slapped, howling in pain, but dared not say another word.
They suffered this injustice in silence, which nearly extinguished their very spirit!
Not long after, the time-traveling skeleton found another place to guard humans.
Here, several real skeleton soldiers are gathered together, seemingly looking for a corner to slack off.
A skeleton soldier, transformed from an engineer who had traveled through time, immediately approached and lowered his voice: "Brothers, you've worked hard. You must be tired looking at these prisoners, right? Why don't you go and rest for a while? I'll keep an eye on things here for you, and I guarantee nothing will go wrong!"
The skeleton soldiers were immediately tempted upon hearing this.
"Really? You're being so kind, kid?" a skeleton soldier asked skeptically.
The engineer skeleton patted its skeletal chest: "Of course! We all serve His Majesty the Skeleton God, so we'll help him out whenever we can!"
"Hey, okay! Let's go take a nap under the shade of that tree over there, call us if you need anything!"
As they spoke, they really did walk away unsteadily.
As soon as they left, the engineer skeleton immediately called on the other transmigrator skeletons, and in no time they moved and hid the several human prisoners who were being guarded.
Not long after, the lazy skeleton soldiers returned, satisfied.
When they looked, they were dumbfounded – where had the person gone?
Where are all these living people?
Just then, a skeleton soldier patrolled the area and, seeing the empty guard post, flew into a rage: "You bastards! You couldn't even keep an eye on a few people! Where did everyone go?"
Several lazy skeleton soldiers cried out in protest, "It wasn't us! We clearly saw someone watching over us here!"
"Yes, yes, yes! It's that helpful guy from earlier! He said he'd help us take a look!"
"We're innocent! We were tricked by the skeletons!"
The skeleton soldier refused to believe him and lashed out with his bone whip several times: "Still trying to argue! I think you've neglected your duties! Drag you away and punish you severely!"
