As the golden light dissipated, Yu Luo suddenly opened his eyes, only to be met with tattered tents and a scene of utter devastation. The air was thick with the stench of blood and scorched earth.
Memories surged forth like a tide, chaotic and complex.
Her name was Jiang Hongying, the daughter of the general guarding the border of the Yan Kingdom.
This is the border of the Yan Kingdom. Not long ago, the Yan Kingdom fought a war with a mysterious Peacock Kingdom.
With the Yan state's national advisor missing, the state had no time to attend to its borders.
Snowstorms, floods, and high temperatures followed one after another, plunging the entire Yan Kingdom into chaos.
When her father, General Jiang, was critically ill and on the verge of death, and the army was pressing on the city, she resolutely took his place in the expedition.
With her exceptional military talent, she quickly led her troops to victory in their first battle.
However, her half-brother Jiang Yaoming went to the new emperor and accused her of impersonating their father and plotting a rebellion.
In a fit of rage, the new emperor cut off all reinforcements and supplies.
Yu Luo had just fully regained consciousness when a series of noisy footsteps came from outside the tent.
"Quickly! Take them all away!" a rough voice rang out.
The enemy troops had already poured in and lifted up all the surviving Yan soldiers in the tent, including her.
Yu Luo was roughly thrown into a makeshift prison cart, surrounded by wounded soldiers with ashen faces.
The prison cart creaked and rattled along the way, and soon they were taken to the Peacock Kingdom's camp on the border of the Yan Kingdom.
Inside the camp.
A burly, dark-skinned general from the Peacock Kingdom sat in the main seat, his hawk-like gaze sweeping over the people who had been brought in.
"Who is the commander-in-chief?" he asked in broken Yan language, his voice as harsh as a grinding stone.
There was no answer; only silence.
The soldiers all lowered their heads and remained silent.
General Peacock sneered, drew his curved sword from his waist, the blade gleaming coldly in the torchlight.
He walked up to a young soldier whose arm was wrapped in blood-stained cloth.
"Not going to talk?" General Peacock's tone carried a hint of cruel mockery.
He suddenly raised his hand, and a flash of light appeared on his blade.
"ah!"
A scream pierced the night sky, and the soldier's hands fell to the ground, blood gushing out instantly and staining the ground red.
The soldier collapsed to the ground in agony, his body convulsing violently, his eyes wide open, yet he clenched his teeth tightly, uttering not a word.
“If you don’t speak up, he’ll be next!” General Peacock pointed at another soldier, his tone icy.
However, the Yan soldiers present gritted their teeth and persevered.
Some people even leaned forward slightly, blocking Yu Luo's way.
Looking at these wounded soldiers, Yu Luo felt a surge of unfamiliar emotions.
Just as General Peacock's patience was about to run out and he was about to raise his sword again, a messenger rushed in.
"General! An envoy from the Yan Kingdom has arrived, requesting peace!" the messenger reported breathlessly.
Upon hearing this, General Peacock raised an eyebrow, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes.
He spat, sheathed his scimitar, and turned to walk out of the tent.
"Keep an eye on these people! Don't let a single one escape!" he said, and strode away.
Inside the tent, only the wounded soldiers groaning in pain and the figures silently guarding Yu Luo remained.
While the peacock soldiers went to relieve themselves, a Yan soldier whispered, "We all know you're not General Jiang, just his daughter."
"But it doesn't matter who you are. After fighting them for so long, you are the only one who has led us to victory."
"The envoy from Yan has arrived. There will definitely be someone to meet you. We will find a way to get you out of here. You must survive!"
Yu Luo felt the pain all over her body and slowly nodded.
The most important thing now is to save our lives and return to Liucheng, otherwise the enemy will break through the city and all the people in the city will be doomed.
This suddenly appearing Peacock Kingdom was extremely cruel. Its soldiers took pleasure in torturing and killing ordinary people. Once the city fell, those people would have no way to survive.
Everyone waited quietly, but when Yu Luo heard people outside talking about how the envoy sent by the Yan Kingdom was Jiang Yaoming, his heart sank.
Jiang Yaoming is the original owner's half-brother. If the messenger is this person, he definitely won't help, and might even turn around and bite back.
After Yu Luo briefly explained the matter, the soldiers fell silent.
Even if they risked their lives, they might not be able to send General Jiang's daughter away safely. Now, the envoy from Yan is the very person who cut off their supplies and escape route. This situation is truly hopeless!
However, at the crucial moment, Yu Luo remained very calm.
"The Yan Kingdom wants to sue for peace, but the Peacock Kingdom may not agree. Their target this time is not just the small Yan Kingdom."
After searching through her memories, Yu Luo recognized that the weapons used by the Peacock Kingdom were gunpowder!
That's why they swept through the enemy lines with unstoppable momentum, crushing them all the way.
In the Central Plains today, apart from the extremely powerful Liang Kingdom, the other countries are basically ordinary agricultural and nomadic civilizations, and are simply unable to resist this kind of dimensional reduction attack.
The only solution is to request assistance from the Liang Kingdom to develop even more powerful gunpowder.
However, the new emperor of Yan looked down on Liang and even tore up the alliance agreement with Liang, which thoroughly angered Liang.
The Liang Kingdom no longer provides assistance to this region.
If the new emperor continues to act recklessly, the Yan Kingdom will likely be the first state to be destroyed by the Peacock Kingdom.
But Yu Luo knew that the new emperor couldn't possibly be so quick to cut off the front-line supplies after just a few words from Jiang Yaoming, so they had to save themselves!
