Chapter 432 End of the Trial

The royal palace of the Yan Kingdom.

The Golden Palace.

The heavy palace doors were slowly pushed open, and sunlight poured in, illuminating Yu Luo's calm and expressionless face.

The new emperor, Mo Fei, sat high on the dragon throne, dressed in brocade robes and wearing a crown, his brows furrowed with impatience.

He looked down at the woman in prison clothes below, his eyes filled with mockery.

"Jiang Hongying, do you know your crime?"

His voice echoed in the empty hall, tinged with a hint of smugness.

Yu Luo raised her eyes, her expression indifferent.

"What crime have I committed?"

Mo Fei was enraged by her nonchalant attitude and slammed his hand on the armrest of the dragon throne.

"presumptuous!"

"You command an army and act arrogantly, defying imperial orders. How dare you ask me what crime you have committed?"

"I will spare your life if you remember your past military achievements and kneel down now to relinquish your military power!"

Yu Luo's lips curled into a barely perceptible smile.

"Your Majesty, 300,000 soldiers are still waiting."

"Are you threatening me?!"

Mo Fei's face instantly turned a deep liver color.

This is what he hates most! A woman, a subject, dares to use military power to suppress him, the emperor!

"Someone come here!"

He roared hysterically.

"Drag this traitor away! Torture her with all the tortures! I'll make her wish she were dead!"

Two fierce-looking imperial guards stepped forward and reached out to grab Yu Luo's arm.

Just then.

"Report!!"

A shrill scream came from outside the hall, the voice trembling uncontrollably.

The messenger scrambled in, his helmet askew.

"Your Majesty! Something terrible has happened! Outside the city! Outside the city..."

Mo Fei shouted impatiently, "What's going on outside the city? Are those traitors led by Jiang Hongying going to attack the city?"

The messenger, with a mournful face, shook his head violently.

"No, Your Majesty! It's the Peacock Kingdom! The Peacock Kingdom's army has attacked! They're already at the city gates!"

Mo Fei's ferocious expression froze instantly.

He felt as if his bones had been removed, and he collapsed onto the dragon throne.

"Wh-what?"

The ministers who had been watching the spectacle all changed their expressions in unison.

One of the old ministers' legs buckled, and he almost lost his balance.

Didn't the Peacock Kingdom just make peace? How could they possibly be back so soon?!

The next second, Mo Fei seemed to have caught fire and sprang up from the dragon throne.

"Quickly! Protect the Emperor! Pack your valuables! I'm leaving the palace! I'm escaping! No, I'm going on a southern tour!"

He frantically tried to run to the back hall, his crown tilting to one side.

The ministers were all dumbfounded.

The war hasn't even started, and the emperor is already running away?

They exchanged a glance, and in their despair, their gazes turned simultaneously to the only calm and composed figure in the hall.

The prime minister, who was at the head of the group, was the first to kneel down and kowtow heavily to Yu Luo.

"General Jiang! The nation is in peril. We urge you to prioritize the country's well-being and lead your troops into battle!"

The other ministers realized what was happening and all knelt down on the ground.

"Please, General Jiang, save my Yan Kingdom!"

Yu Luo's gaze swept over them, her tone indifferent.

"You jest, gentlemen."

"I am merely a prisoner appointed by His Majesty."

The ministers were so anxious they were practically bubbling with worry.

The prime minister hurriedly got up, rushed to Mo Fei, and hugged his leg tightly.

"Your Majesty! You mustn't! You are the Son of Heaven, how can you abandon the city and flee!"

"Get out of my way!" Mo Fei kicked him away. "My life is more important!"

He had only one thought in his mind: run! Run as far as possible!

Looking at the emperor, who was utterly hopeless, a resolute glint flashed in the prime minister's eyes.

He made a snap decision, stood up abruptly, and ripped off the belt of his official robe.

Taking advantage of Mo Fei's unpreparedness, he rushed forward and tied him up tightly!

"Are you going to rebel too?!" Mo Fei was stunned and yelled.

With bloodshot eyes, the prime minister dragged the struggling emperor a few steps to Yu Luo and shoved him to the ground.

"General! This man is incompetent and corrupt, a scourge to the country and its people! You may dispose of him as you see fit!"

Mo Fei was stunned.

The entire court was dumbfounded.

Looking at the new emperor bound like a dumpling at his feet, Yu Luo finally showed his first smile since entering the hall.

"Since that's the case..."

Her voice carried clearly throughout the hall.

"Let him pass the throne to me."

"I brought tens of thousands of elite troops with me, which should be enough to hold them off for a while."

Mo Fei stopped struggling, stared wide-eyed in disbelief, and then let out a pig-like scream.

"You're dreaming! You traitorous traitor!"

The ministers' faces turned completely white in an instant.

Having them kidnap the emperor was already the limit; this was tantamount to usurpation...

Just then, Eunuch Wei, who had been huddled in the corner, scrambled over to Mo Fei's ear.

He spoke quickly in a voice only the two of them could hear:

"Your Majesty! Please agree to her request! She has only brought tens of thousands of people with her; the entire Peacock Kingdom has come!"

"Let her go to the front lines and be a scapegoat, buying us time to escape!"

"Once she dies in battle, won't the throne still be yours?"

Mo Fei's howling stopped abruptly.

His eyes instantly lit up!

yes!

He shouted impatiently, "Pen and ink! Bring me pen and ink right now!"

He didn't even wait for others to untie him. He lay on the ground and wrote a crooked edict of succession. Then he had someone take out the Imperial Seal of the State from his pocket and push it in front of Yu Luo.

"Here you go! All of it is yours!"
