Chapter 5 The Stitched World

Some women were eager to try and quickly pulled their husbands over, but some villagers who had worked all night and were exhausted were not interested in such noisy things and went home without even lifting their eyelids.

“Ade, shall we go take a look?” asked another man who had lost an arm.

He was also a retired male from Linjia Village. He returned with Wu Deyun. Although he was lucky enough to survive, he lost an arm and can now only carry a hoe with one hand.

Wu Deyun finally nodded, "Let's go take a look."

As the three or four of them walked over, Lin Anniang had already come out and was looking at her hands in disbelief.

"Anniang, where did that roast chicken go? I knew you women were all ungrateful wretches. I raised this old hen with great difficulty to prepare for my son in the county town, and you all stole it. How can you be so shameless?"

The old lady was still hopping around, and if she still had her cane, it would make an even louder banging sound.

Upon hearing this, Wu Deyun, who was watching, stepped forward and said, "Grandma Lin, the roast chicken was brought by Lin Xiu yesterday. I and the villagers can all testify to that."

They did smell that aroma yesterday, but it was food that saved their lives, so how could the villagers possibly touch it?

Moreover, the villagers who voluntarily came out to look for people were all of good character; everyone just pretended not to see them.

To everyone's surprise, this morning the old lady turned the tables and accused the other woman.

Grandma Lin continued to shout, "I said she stole it, that brat stole it! You saw it, which proves that those two brats stole my roast chicken and wanted to run out to eat it."

"Otherwise, why would those two brats run off to the desolate mountains?"

Wu Deyun was speechless: "Grandma, that roasted chicken is a wild pheasant, and a male at that. Did you raise it?"

Wu Cuiying, who was standing nearby, also chimed in: "No matter what, everyone should know very well that the third branch of the family doesn't have any spare money to buy roast chicken."

These words silenced the villagers.

That seems to make sense. The third branch of the Lin family is penniless; how could they possibly afford such good food?

"Have you said enough?" Lin Anniang looked coldly at the Lin family.

Now she was completely certain that her strength had suddenly increased. When she grabbed the cane just now, she didn't even have to exert much force. Moreover, she had inexhaustible energy.

She felt that even after doing farm work for so many years, she couldn't have gained so much strength. It could only be a blessing in disguise that she ate the roasted chicken given to her by the Mountain Goddess!

Now, she can't wait to try it out and find out just how strong she really is.

"Since you've said enough, let me say something." Lin Anniang was like a wild beast about to fight; her gentle willow-leaf eyebrows had lost their previous softness and become incredibly sharp.

"I paid for Xiuxiu to buy that roast chicken. Although I'm seriously ill and bedridden, I haven't taken any medicine or bought anything. So what if I have a little savings? Who's going to complain?"

Lin Anniang immediately stared at the old lady. Seeing that the old lady was about to jump over, she slammed the wooden door shut to prevent the old lady from disturbing her daughters.

However, her strength was now completely different from before. The wooden door that was closed could not withstand the fierce force at all. It didn't even last a second before it fell apart.

As the sturdy wooden door was smashed to pieces with a single slap, the surrounding villagers all stared in horror.

Even the old lady who was about to curse hesitated, her cloudy eyes darting around, hardly believing it.

Lin Anniang was rather annoyed. This was her own house, and now that it was falling apart, she would have nowhere to stay that night.

However, at this moment, she could not show weakness first; instead, she stared at the Lin family group with a sinister look.

"You old geezer, dare to glare at me again? Let me tell you, from now on, if any of you dare to bully my daughters or order them around, the result will be this broken wooden door!"
