In November, the cold wind howled through the desolate mountains, and some of the surrounding vegetation had withered, forming piles of dry hay.
These believers had traveled a long way, bringing their families and carrying burlap sacks.
The barren mountain was already very high, and there was no fixed road leading to the top. They could only cross these haystacks and move forward step by step on the dry grass.
This is the path that every believer must take to visit the Mountain Goddess. Even if someone falls down and stumbles by the roadside, they simply get up silently and rejoin the group.
They have already abandoned their village and the houses where their ancestors have lived for generations. They can't be abandoned by the barren mountains as well, can they?
What will they do then?
When some of the women carrying children became too weak, some of the younger people would take the children from them and take turns climbing up.
Grandma Gongsun walked beside them and silently nodded in her heart as she watched their actions.
This group of people is not bad; at least they are not cunning or dishonest, and they will help each other when problems arise.
Unfortunately, they were unlucky and encountered bandits, resulting in an attack on their village.
In the group, a skinny twelve-year-old girl, led by an old woman, was also struggling to climb up.
This girl is none other than Zhang Jing and Zhang Yao, who have traveled through time.
They had already traveled through time when the bandits were massacring the village. At that time, the bandits were killing people, and the grandmother in this body protected them tightly, just as the big knife was about to fall.
Just then, Zhang Yu was discovered by the bandits. A golden light emanated from her body, scaring the bandits away in a panic.
The large knife was also left behind. Zhang Jing, who was the first to regain control of her body, gripped the knife in her hand and wrapped it in the only cloth left in the house, using it as a tool for self-defense.
Upon their arrival, both of them were stunned by the golden light.
Although they did not believe in God, they were grateful for the other party's help, which saved everyone else in the village.
Of course, what they were most grateful for was that the original owner's grandmother was rescued and is still alive and well.
This grandmother was the only obsession of the original owner, because in the whole family, only the grandmother cared about the original owner the most. She would secretly give the original owner delicious food and would secretly sew kapok wadding into the original owner's clothes when it was cold.
Later, Grandma came to the barren mountain with the remaining villagers to worship the Mountain Goddess. Zhang Jing fell into a deep sleep and let her younger sister Zhang Yao control her body and come with her.
At this moment, both of them were awake, and they were observing this strange world through the eyes of the original owner of the body.
The gods in this world are real, and they possess divine power.
Since there are gods, there must be other things that shouldn't exist, like demons, right?
Rather than staying in the village with my grandmother in constant fear, it's much safer to come to this desolate mountain.
"Little sister, you must be careful then," Zhang Jing reminded herself in her mind.
Zhang Yao nodded; she was naturally aware of this.
However, the path to worship the gods was so difficult that she could barely lift her feet.
"If this mountain goddess is truly powerful, then this difficulty is nothing. You have to make sacrifices to gain something," Zhang Jing analyzed.
Even in their modern times, there are still pilgrimages involving prostrations and kowtows, let alone this short mountain path.
"We'll see how things go. If the Mountain Goddess is truly as benevolent as that Lady Zhang claims, we'll strive to become her right-hand woman and one of her most trusted believers!"
In any world, only by standing at a high vantage point can one see further and learn more.
"Sister, I know that. I'll definitely observe carefully when the time comes!"
Grandma Gongsun, standing to the side, was unaware that someone else was eager to come over and "compete for favor."
After climbing for most of the day, a group of people finally arrived near the mountain god temple.
A large group of people knelt and prayed three times before the temple, following the actions of Old Lady Gongsun.
Immediately afterwards, the newly arrived believers began to offer incense. After all the believers lit incense for the Mountain Goddess and returned to the group, Old Lady Gongsun spoke again.
"You are very lucky today. Today is the monthly blessing time of the Mountain Goddess. All those who are approved by the Mountain Goddess can receive divine blessings."
The newly arrived believers were still very confused. They had lost their homes, and most of them were living in a daze. They had only managed to stay alive by worshipping the Mountain Goddess. When they heard that the Mountain Goddess had bestowed blessings, they were not able to react for a moment.
"The Mountain Goddess bestows blessings in two ways. One is this brocade pouch. The pouch can protect you and keep you safe from wild beasts in the wilderness. It can even save your life in critical moments!"
Zhang Niangzi stood aside explaining to the believers who were writing these letters.
"The other kind of blessing cannot be mentioned. Even among the villagers of our Lin Family Village, not many people have received this kind of blessing. You only need to know that it can increase one's strength."
As soon as he finished speaking, a group of newly arrived believers burst into tears.
Regardless of the type of blessing, it is all the protection of the Mountain Goddess for them!
"Yu'er, is that golden light you're wearing also a blessing from the Mountain Goddess?" some villagers from Zhangjia Village asked in hushed tones.
Zhang Yao, standing in the crowd, also pricked up her ears, eager to hear the answer.
"Yes, this brocade pouch was indeed bestowed by the Mountain Goddess. It was the pouch that emitted light and saved my life at the critical moment," Zhang Yu nodded solemnly.
In fact, she was so scared that she had no power to resist. If the brocade pouch hadn't suddenly protected her, she probably would have been killed by the bandit long ago!
