Although Ye Mingchen asked Yingbao aloud, he was thinking that his little sister had told him before she left that she was going to the market to buy delicious food, and he had risked being beaten and scolded by his father and mother to come along with her—why was it different from what he had imagined?
"Why are you squatting in the corner? Is there something delicious over there?" The more Ye Mingchen thought about it, the more he felt that he had been tricked by his little sister Yingbao.
So, without thinking, he blurted out the answer.
"Shh...shh," Yingbao immediately put her finger to her lips and blew twice, indicating that she wanted Ye Mingchen to lower his voice or not to speak at all.
Although Ye Mingchen was puzzled by this, he still shut his nagging mouth as his little sister Yingbao asked, and squatted down in the corner with her.
After squatting for a while, Widow Cai finally started packing up her stall. Yingbao turned around with a serious expression and whispered to Ye Mingchen, "Brother, no matter what you see or hear later, don't shout or make any unnecessary movements."
"Make sure you remember, did you hear me?" Yingbao suddenly grabbed Ye Mingchen's arm and instructed him, afraid that the young man might shout "two loudspeakers" in his excitement and give away his secret.
Ye Mingchen winced in pain and said, "Um, I... I know, Yingbao... you... you hurry, hurry and let go of my arm, it hurts so much from your pinching."
Upon hearing this, Yingbao quickly released her grip on Ye Mingchen's hand and said apologetically, "Brother, I didn't mean it. Let's hurry up and catch up with Widow Cai. I'll get you a bowl of Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles with Coke later."
When Ye Mingchen learned that Yingbao would give him the same irresistible Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles and Coke he had eaten before, he was so happy that he stopped rubbing his arms. He didn't even bother to roll up his sleeves to check for red marks or small wounds. He immediately looked up and excitedly said to Yingbao, "Haha... What are we waiting for? Let's hurry up and catch up with her. I saw that she's finished packing and is about to leave."
After saying that, Yingbao and Ye Mingchen followed closely behind Widow Cai for a distance and left the market together.
After leaving the market, Widow Cai did not head back to the road in the village. Instead, she cautiously began to look around, almost causing Yingbao and Xiaoge to be discovered.
Fortunately, just a second before she looked over, Yingbao pulled Ye Mingchen behind the wall.
After looking around for a while, Widow Cai saw nothing amiss and continued walking.
Yingbao and Ye Mingchen continued to follow Widow Cai, winding their way through the streets for about half an hour before stopping in front of a house.
Yingbao and Ye Mingchen stared at each other with identical wide eyes, asking in bewilderment, "Widow Cai has relatives?"
The two little ones, filled with these questions, cautiously climbed to the window and began eavesdropping.
Then, a series of rustling and chirping sounds came from inside, sometimes accompanied by a "good brother" or two...
Ye Mingchen could hear the sounds but couldn't see what was happening inside—he was extremely anxious and wanted to reach out and poke a small hole in the paper windowsill with his middle finger to see what was going on.
Just as he put his hand down and was about to act, Yingbao swiftly grabbed him, glancing at him as if to say, "Brother, have you forgotten what you just said?"
