Chapter 107 Why save me?

“Your Majesty, in my opinion, that Consort Nan doesn’t seem to be a person with bad intentions,” Chen Yuan, who had been standing beside Baili Yingfeng, said.

Chen Yuan was Baili Yingfeng's bodyguard, and had been by his side since childhood. Recently, he had been frequently visiting Consort Nan's palace to deliver messages. Unlike other concubines, Consort Nan did not subtly inquire about the King and the young prince. Instead, she was very well-behaved in her palace. He had never seen such a detached and unambitious consort.

Baili Yingfeng remained silent for a long while, his gaze fixed on the people inside Yiqin Palace. "Who knows what their purpose is in sending people from Hongxiu Kingdom?"

"No one should even think about replacing Achen." A look of sorrow flashed in Baili Yingfeng's eyes.

“However, Consort Nan doesn’t seem to have any other feelings for the young prince,” Chen Yuan said hesitantly.

Baili Yingfeng pondered for a moment, "In a few days, it will be Princess Nanyang's first birthday banquet. I will also go there and meet the Emperor of Nanyang."

Originally, Baili Yingfeng planned to have Nanfei go alone with the congratulatory gifts, but now he has changed his mind and he will go to Nanyang himself.

"Go and arrange things in the palace, and then come with me."

"Yes, I will take care of it right away." Chen Yuan bowed and went to make preparations.

...

The next morning, Chen Yuan led a group of men and three carriages to wait at the gate of the Northern Liang palace.

One carriage was for Baili Yingfeng and Baili Mingwen, another was for Nanfei and her two maids, and the third was filled with supplies for the journey and local products unique to Beiliang.

Baili Yingfeng walked out of the main hall with Baili Mingwen. After seeing Chen Yuan, he looked around and asked with a frown, "Where is Consort Nan?"

The thing he disliked doing most in his life was waiting for people.

"Your Majesty, Consort Nan is already in the carriage," Chen Yuan replied respectfully.

Miao Nanyan and her two personal maids were sitting in the second carriage.

Miao Nanyan got up early in the morning, and after washing and dressing, she left her bedchamber early with the congratulatory gifts prepared by Baili Yingfeng and waited at the palace gate. When Chen Yuan and his carriage arrived, she got into the carriage with Yun Jin and Xiang Ling.

"Hmph, she's certainly diligent." Baili Yingfeng snorted coldly, then carried Baili Mingwen onto the carriage.

"Let's go!" Baili Yingfeng waved his hand, and a large group of people left the palace in a grand procession.

Originally, Baili Yingfeng didn't need to go to the invitation from the Nanyang royal family in person, but since Mingwen had lived in the palace since he was a child, he should be taken to see the world.

His troops guarded both inside and outside the palace, so the rebels couldn't cause any trouble.

The carriage left the palace and embarked on the official road. The bumpy ride was quite unsettling for Miao Nanyan, who had grown up in the south and was used to traveling by water.

After the carriage had been traveling for most of the day, Miao Nanyan and her two maids finally couldn't hold back any longer.

"Stop the car!" Yun Jin shouted.

Miao Nanyan clutched her chest, desperately trying to suppress the urge to vomit.

Xiangling and Yunjin helped Miao Nanyan down from the carriage. Miao Nanyan squatted on the ground and dry heaved, feeling extremely dizzy.

"Your Highness, take a sniff." Xiangling took out a small green medicine bottle from her sleeve, uncorked it, and placed it at Miao Nanyan's nose.

This is a herbal balm, which is most effective in relieving dizziness and nausea.

Although the two maids were feeling nauseous, taking care of their mistress was the most important thing at the moment.

"What's wrong?" Baili Yingfeng frowned and asked impatiently when he heard the commotion behind him.

He lifted the curtain of the carriage and glanced back, only to see Miao Nanyan squatting on the ground.

"Your Majesty, it is Consort Nan who is unwell."

"A meddlesome woman." Baili Yingfeng waved his hand, stopping the carriage.

"We've been walking for most of the day, so let's rest here."

A group of people rested on the open ground, and several soldiers prepared to set up a pot to boil water.

"Assassins! Protect the King!"

Suddenly, countless arrows shot towards Baili Yinfeng from behind the trees.

A dozen or so assassins in black jumped out from behind the tree.

"Your Majesty, be careful!" Chen Yuan exclaimed, quickly pushing the carriage to the other side with a powerful palm strike.

Baili Yingfeng dodged the arrow that was shot at him.

Chen Yuan and Baili Yingfeng drew their swords to block the arrows aimed at them.

Upon hearing the noise, the surrounding soldiers and guards rushed over to block the arrows and fight with the assassin who had suddenly appeared.

"Your Majesty, watch out behind you!" Chen Yuan exclaimed. The arrow was too close, and there was no time to swing his sword, so he used his body to block it.

"Chen Yuan!" Baili Yingfeng roared, veins bulging on his face and neck.

...

"Mother, don't be afraid, Mingwen will protect you!" Baili Mingwen, dressed in a black brocade robe, ran to Miao Nanyan's side with a short sword in his hand.

"Inscriptions?!"

"You need to hide quickly, it's dangerous here!" Miao Nanyan looked at the situation in front of her and instantly sobered up. She picked up Baili Mingwen and hid him behind a big tree.

After a fierce battle, corpses littered the ground.

The assassins were after Baili Yingfeng, so neither Baili Mingwen nor Miao Nanyan were injured.

Chen Yuan and Baili Yingfeng were seriously injured. Chen Yuan lay on the ground unconscious. The wounds on Chen Yuan's hands and legs had reopened and were bleeding again. Both of his arms had arrow wounds of varying depths.

Baili Yingfeng leaned against the dilapidated carriage.

"Ah!" Miao Nanyan tripped over something under her feet and looked down to see a dead man dressed entirely in black and masked.

"What are you doing, pulling on the inscription?!" Baili Yingfeng looked up when he heard the voice. His eyes were bloodshot, and his face was full of tension and anger.

Miao Nanyan looked at Baili Yingfeng, who was covering the arrow stuck in his right shoulder with one hand.

"Father!" Baili Mingwen knelt beside Baili Yingfeng, feeling extremely anxious and distressed.

"Mother, please save Father!" Baili Mingwen looked at Miao Nanyan helplessly.

Miao Nanyan's family is skilled in using Gu poison. Although they are not good at other medical skills, they can still handle this situation.

She stepped forward and examined Chen Yuan's wound. He had been shot in the right shoulder with an arrow. Fortunately, the wound had not turned black, so the arrow was probably not poisoned, but it had penetrated very deeply.

"Take a sniff of this. It will help ease your pain when I clean your wound later." Miao Nanyan placed the white porcelain bottle into Baili Yingfeng's hand.

"I don't need it!" Baili Yingfeng turned his head away, no longer looking at her, large beads of sweat appearing on his forehead.

Miao Nanyan ignored her cold words and used whatever was available to find herbs that could stop the bleeding, then wrapped the wound with gauze.

After a flurry of activity, Miao Nanyan bandaged her wound and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

"Why did you save me?" Baili Yingfeng asked calmly.
