As the two were talking, they heard a groan of discomfort coming from nearby.
The person curled up in a ball was muttering something in a low voice, seemingly in unbearable pain.
After looking around to make sure no one was there, Yun Duoduo squatted down.
"Aunt Xiang, go to Huichuntang and call someone. I'll give her some basic first aid here."
"Okay." Ah Xiang nodded and walked quickly towards Huichun Hall.
"I can help you heal, but can you still walk?" Yun Duoduo asked softly.
The man remained curled up in the corner, motionless.
"Look at me, I won't hurt you. If you wait any longer, the wound will get infected and it will be difficult to treat."
The man slowly moved his hand away, opened his eyes to look at her, and before him stood a woman with fair skin, a beautiful face, and dressed in brocade.
Am I about to die?
Her eyes were filled with fear, yet also with a sense of relief and indifference.
"He's not dead, but if we wait a little longer, things might change."
After a long silence, and then a moment of stunned silence, her eyes flickered, and she pleaded with Yun Duoduo, her voice weak: "My lord, please save me..."
She still has a family, a mother and a father. What will they do if she dies?
She didn't want to die!
"You need to cooperate with me."
Yun Duoduo saw the will to survive in her eyes.
There was hardly anyone in the alley. Yun Duoduo took out a handkerchief and wiped the cold sweat from her forehead.
"May I have your name?"
"Ping'er".
“Ping’er…” Yun Duoduo felt that the name sounded familiar, but she couldn’t remember where she had heard it before.
After cleaning all the dirt off her body, the people from Huichuntang arrived.
Ah Xiang, Hong Hua, and two apprentices lifted the person up and quickly returned to the clinic.
Yun Duoduo noticed that when Honghua saw the person lying on the ground, her face changed drastically, and her body trembled uncontrollably.
"Honghua, are you alright?"
Honghua suddenly looked up, her eyes wide, and nodded at Yun Duoduo.
Yun Duoduo didn't care about the red flowers; she had to hurry and treat the wounded person.
"Quickly, prepare the knife and hemostatic powder."
"I'll be fine here, you can all go out." After Yun Duoduo finished speaking, the apprentices who were crowded in the room all went out.
Ping'er's originally delicate and fair skin was covered with bloodstains. There were whip marks, burns, and fine scratches on her back and legs.
She was very thin, her belly was covered by bones, and her ribs were clearly visible with each breath.
Yun Duoduo noticed that in addition to the new wounds from today, she also had old wounds. On her right leg, a small piece of flesh had begun to rot. "Some of the rotten flesh needs to be removed."
Yun Duoduo took out a syringe from the medicine box and gave her an anesthetic injection. Then she used a sterilized knife to remove the rotten flesh.
The anesthesia had taken effect, and Ping'er lay motionless on the bed, but tears silently streamed down her face.
After treating the wound, Yun Duoduo was drenched in sweat. She looked down at Ping'er and suddenly felt that the face looked very familiar.
"Hmm, why does this person look so familiar..."
"Is this the daughter of the old woman we met at the Five Pagoda Temple?!"
Yun Duoduo looked at him with complicated emotions. Who hit her so hard?
This is torture!
"Thank you so much for saving my life," Ping'er said in a hoarse voice.
Yun Duoduo gently patted her head, signaling her not to speak, "You should sleep for a while."
She will be in a lot of pain once the anesthesia wears off.
"It might hurt more after the medicine wears off, so you'll have to bear with it."
"If you fall asleep, you won't feel the pain."
Watching Ping'er gradually close her eyes, Yun Duoduo went out to find A Xiang.
"Aunt Xiang!"
"Aunt Xiang, look at Ping'er, isn't she the daughter of the old woman we met at the Five Pagoda Temple last time?"
When Jin Jinzhi quelled the rebellion in Jiangning, Yun Duoduo led people to the Five Pagoda Temple to pray for blessings. It was at the inn there that she met the old woman who had lost her daughter.
Ah Xiang was slightly taken aback. She walked in, looked down and examined it carefully. "Hmm, it does look like it."
"The old woman we met at the inn last time, who was looking for her daughter, had a portrait of her daughter that looked pretty much like this."
"The age matches up."
"Hmm, I think so too, Xiaoying!"
Yun Duoduo came out from the inner room. "Xiaoying, send someone to the inn at the foot of Wuta Temple Mountain and ask the old woman who lost her daughter to come to Huichuntang."
After their last parting, Yun Duoduo had people post missing person notices everywhere and told the woman to wait at the inn. Presumably, the old woman hasn't left yet.
"Aunt Sheng, Aunt Xiang and I have other things to do, so we won't stay at Huichuntang."
"Ping'er, I'm leaving her in your care. I'll leave the medicine on the table. Give her the medicine three times a day after meals, and change the gauze every two days."
Aunt Sheng nodded: "Don't worry, young master, we'll take care of that girl inside."
"Oh, who did this? What a terrible thing!"
Aunt Sheng sighed, recalling how Honghua looked just a few years ago when she first arrived.
...
After dealing with the matter at Huichuntang, Yun Duoduo picked up the medicine bag and continued walking towards Jinxiu Silk with A Xiang.
Upon arriving at the Brocade Silk Shop, Liao Ziwan was directing the shop assistants to place ice blocks in a corner.
"Sister Ziwan!"
"It's really cool inside the silk shop!"
Hearing the call at the door, Liao Ziwan smiled and quickly walked a few steps to greet Yun Duoduo: "You've come at the right time. This is fabric that just arrived in Shengze. Feel it, it's smooth and cool."
"Perfect for making summer clothes!"
"I was wondering when you would come so I could quickly make you some clothes; it's been so hot lately!"
Yun Duoduo touched the fabric on the table and the clothes hanging on the rack. Sure enough, they felt cool and smooth to the touch, and were very comfortable to touch.
"Okay, then let's stick to the previous measurements and make five sets of men's clothing and five sets of women's clothing!"
"Some garments have already been made from this material. We'll adjust the sizes, and you can take them home and wear them in a little while."
"That's wonderful! Thank you so much, Sister Ziwan!"
Liao Ziwan instructed the embroiderer to cut the clothes, and she pulled Yun Duoduo upstairs.
"Oh, right, this is for you, it's a beauty and skin-nourishing herb for you to use in soup."
Yun Duoduo handed the herbal medicine packet to Liao Ziwan, who happily accepted it and thanked her profusely.
"Sister Ziwan just said that this fabric just arrived from Shengze. Did you just come back from Shengze?"
Liao Ziwan nodded. "Yes, this kind of material is not available in the capital; it can only be found in the Shengze and Yangzhou areas."
"Hey, let me tell you something. A while ago, I went back to Shengze to look at fabrics and encountered something strange." Liao Ziwan's expression suddenly changed, and she whispered in Yun Duoduo's ear.
"What is it?"
