Chapter 163 Filial Piety

"Didn't my sister-in-law say that my second uncle's family has some fabrics and clothes? We wanted to go and take a look, since my sister-in-law has a lot of clothes too."

"That's true, then let's go."

Li Rong and Gu Sang went to Zhang's shop. Zhang's shop was on a street in the town, very close to the Gu family's house. When Gu Sang and Li Rong arrived, they saw Zhang and a group of women picking out clothes.

When Li Rong and Gu Sang arrived, Zhang was discussing the color of her clothes with someone else.

"Sister-in-law, how about this one?" Gu Sang walked over and asked, pointing to a pink dress.

"This dress is nice, the color is very bright, and it suits my skin tone very well. I like it very much." Zhang glanced at the dress that Gu Sang was pointing to, and a happy expression immediately appeared on her face.

"I think this dress is quite nice, but it's rather inexpensive. I wonder if my second aunt would be willing to part with it?"

"Xiao Sang, why are you being so polite with me? This dress is for you. Anyway, your second uncle has plenty of clothes at home, and this one isn't worth much." Zhang Shi smiled and handed the dress to Gu Sang.

Gu Sang accepted the clothes, thanked Li Rong, and then walked out of the shop together.

"Sister-in-law is so kind, she's such a good person!" Gu Sang praised as she walked.

"Xiao Sang, please don't praise me so much. I'm getting embarrassed by your compliments," Zhang said with a smile.

Gu Sang and Li Rong arrived in town and wandered around the streets for quite a while. They bought a lot of things, enough to fill two large bags. Gu Anping was dumbfounded when he saw the two large bags full of things.

"Xiao Sang, why did you buy so much stuff?"

"My second uncle and aunt have been so good to me, so of course I have to give them these things as a token of my respect. Brother, I know you're worried about me spending money, but I'm not short of cash. Our family is quite well-off now, so let's not be frugal, don't you think?"

"Alright then." Gu Anping didn't say anything more.

Gu Anping and Li Rong loaded all the things Gu Sang had bought onto the back seat of the carriage. Gu Anping and Li Rong sat in the front, while Gu Sang sat in the back. The two carriages headed towards the most bustling and lively part of the town.

"Anping, look ahead, who's that?" Li Rong suddenly exclaimed in surprise.

"Where?" Upon hearing this, Gu Anping quickly looked ahead and indeed saw a person standing there. The person was holding a cloth bag and waving it around as if calling out to something. After a while, the person turned around and met Gu Anping's gaze.

"Anping, do you know this person?" Li Rong asked in surprise when she saw the man.

“This person…” Gu Anping thought carefully for a moment, then suddenly realized, “It’s Aunt Liu?”

"Is that Aunt Liu?" Li Rong was also somewhat surprised. "What's she doing here? At this hour, what's she doing here? What's she doing?"

"You're asking me? How would I know?" Gu Anping shrugged and said helplessly.

"Anping, what do we do now? Should we go check on her?"

"Wouldn't it bother her if we went now?"

Gu Anping also agreed with Li Rong. It was too late to disturb them now.

"How about this, let's go tomorrow. It's already late today, and if we go without permission, will we disturb her? If she finds out we went to see her secretly, she'll definitely be angry."

“Okay, let’s go tomorrow then.” Li Rong nodded in agreement as soon as Gu Anping agreed to her suggestion.

"Then let's go."

Gu Anping and Li Rong drove the carriage all the way to the Gu family's gate before stopping it outside the courtyard. Only then did they open the carriage door and get out.

"Mother, we're back." Hearing that familiar voice, Li Shi hurriedly ran out of the house.

As soon as Gu Sang and Li Rong saw Li Shi run out, they hurriedly went into the house and picked up all the things.

Gu Sang and Li Rong carried the things into the main room. As soon as Li saw what they were carrying, her eyes widened. "What are you doing? Why did you buy so much stuff again? Your second uncle's wife will definitely not agree to you buying so much stuff. This is enough for you to eat for several years."

“Mom, it’s alright. My second sister-in-law and I won’t eat and drink for free. We bought so many things for my second uncle’s family because we have the filial piety to show. Besides, we didn’t buy these things for nothing. We brought back some good wine for them as a gift for my second uncle and second aunt’s family,” Gu Sang explained.

Li looked at Gu Sang with some disbelief. How could she believe that this silly girl would have such a heart?

“Mother, don’t you believe what my second sister-in-law and I said? Second Aunt and Second Uncle have been so good to us. If we don’t help them, who else can we help? Besides, what we brought them wasn’t just wine; I also brought some dishes. My second sister-in-law and I prepared a sumptuous meal for them,” Gu Sang explained.

“Yes, I also think we brought quite a lot of things. My older brother and I have already packed everything. We’ll go find my second uncle’s older brother and sister tomorrow and give them the things. They’ll be very happy,” Li Rong chimed in.

"Since that's the case, then I won't stop you. But I must remind you, don't go too far tomorrow. No matter what gifts you bring them, you must buy them yourself. Otherwise, don't blame your second aunt for being impolite."

"Mother, don't worry, we won't do that. My second brother and I will definitely be careful not to make things difficult for my second uncle and aunt," Gu Sang and Li Rong assured each other.

"Alright, just remember what you said. Now go to sleep and go see your second uncle tomorrow morning. Otherwise, we won't have time tomorrow morning."

"Okay, Mom. You should go back to your room and rest. Tomorrow, Li Rong and I are going to visit Uncle and Aunt."

"Alright, you should all get some rest too, don't overwork yourselves. I'm going to rest now." After saying that, Li turned around and went into the house.

After returning to their room, Gu Sang and Li Rong washed up and then Gu Sang lay on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.

"Gu Sang, what are you thinking about? Why aren't you resting?" Li Rong asked curiously when she saw Gu Sang tossing and turning in bed.

"Nothing, I was just thinking about what kind of gift we should prepare for my second uncle's second sister tomorrow."
