Chapter Thirty: The Shopkeeper's Take-In

Upon hearing these words, Li Rong merely raised an eyebrow slightly. After a moment's thought, and seeing the elegant appearance of the third branch of the family, she seemed to have guessed something.

"Are you... planning to move now?"

Gu Sang nodded.

“I knew they wouldn’t be so easy to deal with, and after suffering such a huge loss, of course they would choose to retaliate against us. But it doesn’t matter. We’re going to leave now and see what else they can do.”

After Gu Sang finished speaking, she gave a cold laugh. After a long while, she finally suppressed the irritation in her heart and glanced at Li Rong.

We're leaving. What about you?

She hadn't forgotten her promise to Li Rong; she would feed the boy every day. But now they had to leave, so what about Li Rong...?

Li Rong paused for a moment, then smiled and shook her head.

"I can manage on my own."

They moved their whole family, and I can't very well go with them, can I?

No matter what, Li Rong simply couldn't do such a thing.

Gu Sang understood that if she said that, it would sound like she was looking down on the boy, so she nodded and said, "Alright, I'll go over and settle in first. You... wait until I'm settled before you come over, okay?"

Li Rong hadn't expected Gu Sang to say such a thing, and she couldn't help but raise her eyebrows. After a moment, she smiled and nodded.

"good."

He said nothing more.

Sometimes, there's no need to say those unfounded things, since everyone understands.

"Let's go, I'll take you to the village entrance, otherwise it will get late."

"good."

Li Rong then escorted the family of six to the village entrance and watched them leave.

When Li Rong got home, she lay on the bed and, for some reason, felt a pang of loneliness.

“It really is…”

He shook his head, closed his eyes, and stopped thinking about it.

The three families finally arrived in town before dark. It was too late to negotiate the shop deal. Just as Gu Sang and her family were heading to the hotel, they were spotted by the owner of Yipinju.

"Young friend?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Sang raised her head and smiled at the shopkeeper.

"Well done, shopkeeper."

"Oh my, it really is you, young friend!" The innkeeper quickly stepped forward, then laughed heartily. Even a shrewd man like the innkeeper was momentarily stunned upon seeing the family's appearance. "Young friend, what's this...?"

At this moment, Li was slightly embarrassed. In addition, she had not seen much of the world and felt that she should avoid men who were not her friends. So Li lowered her head.

Gu Xiang smiled calmly and then said, "Just as you see, shopkeeper, I can't stay in the countryside anymore. That's why I'm thinking of coming to the city to find an opportunity to make money. I'm sorry to have made you laugh, shopkeeper."

Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper hurriedly shook his head.

"Young friend, what are you saying? How could it be effective? It's only natural that people strive for higher positions and water flows downhill. But do you have a goal in mind? And are you planning to stay at the inn tonight?"

The shopkeeper bombarded Gu Sang with so many questions that she was momentarily at a loss for which one to answer, but she still nodded nonetheless.

"Yes."

Having a destination and staying overnight at an inn—that's a question that can be answered in one sentence.

The shopkeeper nodded. Although he didn't know the details of the situation, he had worked with Gu Sang before, so he knew what kind of person she was. Moreover, she was clearly in trouble. If you don't help someone in trouble, what are you waiting for?

Thinking of all this, the shopkeeper smiled even more kindly.

"Well, young friend, you've come all the way to town, and we've become friends over time. How can you go to an inn? Doesn't that make this old man feel guilty? Could it be that you look down on this old man?"

After he finished speaking, the shopkeeper's face darkened slightly, and he looked displeased.

Gu Sang was both amused and exasperated.

However, Madam Li had no idea what was going on, and at this moment she couldn't help but look at Gu Sang with worry.

“Sang Sang…”

Won't this cause trouble?

Li is now truly terrified; even the slightest disturbance can frighten her for a very long time.

Although she knew that her personality was wrong, Li Shi had no choice but to accept it. She couldn't change it, and the mere thought of it filled her with panic.

Gu Sang understood Li's worries, and at this moment she simply patted Li's hand lightly.

"What you're saying, shopkeeper, is a bit too much. But you're only doing this for the good of my family. So... we'll have to trouble you then."

After Gu Sang finished speaking, she smiled again.

Actually, the fact that this matter has escalated to this point is not a big deal for Gu Sang. She has money of her own, and as the saying goes, "With money, one has no worries." That's exactly how Gu Sang feels now.

However, the shopkeeper wasn't trying to bully anyone. He just wanted to improve his relationship with Gu Sang, which is why he did it. Gu Sang understood this perfectly well.

So Gu Sang smiled slightly and nodded at this moment.

Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper immediately gave Gu Sang a thumbs up.

"Young friend, you are insightful!"

You tell me, none of us are fools. Things have escalated to this point, and everyone understands what's really going on. Gu Sang is well aware of it all, and the shopkeeper understands it even better.

Even though Gu Sang understood, she still chose to accept the shopkeeper's kindness. What else could this be but being insightful?

In other words, if it were someone else, they wouldn't be able to make such a decision.

This is also the main reason why the shopkeeper said Gu Sang was insightful.

As for Gu Sang, she hadn't really thought that much about it. And now that things had escalated to this point, she didn't really care about any of it.

She dared to threaten the Gu family with a kitchen knife, so what wouldn't she dare to do?

The group followed the innkeeper to the restaurant. There were guest rooms in the back courtyard of the restaurant. After the innkeeper made the arrangements, he said to Gu Sang, "No one stays here permanently, so the rooms in the back courtyard are a bit simple. Please bear with us, young friend."

Gu Sang smiled and shook her head.

"The shopkeeper's kindness in taking us in is already the greatest favor we can do for him, so how could we possibly complain?"

The two exchanged a glance, and both understood what the other was trying to say from their eyes.

Gu Sang didn't really care about any of this. Being able to get through the night safely was better than anything else. She didn't ask for anything else.
