Chapter 113 Dealing with Xu
Seeing his son's arrogant look, Nanyou Wangjun's eyes flashed with a faint smile, and he raised the corner of his mouth and asked in a long voice:
"Oh, then Qiu Bai, tell me what happened. How come Master Xu fell into the lotus pond by himself? How come he was the mastermind behind it?"
Ji Qiubai glanced at the bed with disdain, waved behind him, and said coldly:
"Tell me about the good things you did."
He had just finished speaking.
A green-clad guard at the back knelt down and kowtowed in the direction of Nanyou Wangjun. Then he stood up and pointed at the bed, tremblingly pointing out:
"My Lord, I am the attendant who is responsible for serving Mr. Meng at this flower viewing banquet. Before the banquet started, Mr. Xu came to me and said that he couldn't stand Mr. Meng's pretentiousness. He gave me two hundred taels of silver and a gold hairpin, and asked me to put laxatives in Mr. Meng's wine. Then he sent me away outside the toilet."
Having said this, he paused, looked at Ji Qiubai cautiously, his voice became smaller and smaller, and he continued vaguely:
"Later, the master found that the servant was behaving abnormally, so he forced the servant to speak. After listening, he thought that Master Xu had other purposes, so he took the servant to the lotus pond. Then, he saw Master Xu about to commit a crime. After that, um..., Master Meng was rescued, and Master Xu fell into the water."
After the green-clad attendant finished his testimony, he pulled out two silver bills and a gold hairpin from his sleeve and held them above his head, motioning for everyone in the room to check.
On the bed.
When Xu Ruoyan saw that her accomplice's attendants had turned against her, she felt something was wrong and did not wait for King Nanyou to ask any questions.
He threw back the quilt and knelt beside the bed, crying and saying in a weak voice, avoiding the main point:
"Lord, wow, it was indeed me who drugged him. I was jealous of Mr. Meng's favor, so I bribed the guards to teach him a lesson. But, but, I really didn't want to kill him!"
After that, he pretended to recall and confided his inner pain:
"At that time, Mr. Meng was alone beside the lotus pond. I was jealous and couldn't help but go up to him and make some ridicule. Unexpectedly, he heard that I had tampered with the wine to cause him to this point, so he started fighting with me.
"After that, the attendant and Master Ji came over and saw what happened. During the struggle between the two of us, Master Meng gained the upper hand and pushed me into the water. As for why the attendant pointed to me, it must be because he was dazzled and made a mistake."
After hearing this, the King of Nanyou glanced at the two people kneeling on the ground, narrowed his eyes slightly, turned his head and asked Ji Qiubai:
"Qiu Bai, what do you think about this matter? Just now, your father heard you accuse Master Xu solemnly, but as he said, there is a misunderstanding?"
After hearing this, Ji Qiubai drooped his eyelids, yawned calmly and slowly, and said with a snort of laughter:
"Listening to Xu Ruoyan talking nonsense, I am tired. Since father asked, I will tell him. This will also put an end to Mr. Xu's lucky hope."
After saying that, he propped his head up with one hand, glanced at Xu Ruoyan who was kneeling beside the bed, and raised his eyebrows and said:
"To be honest, the person who pushed you into the water today was none other than me. As for why you are making up so much nonsense, I guess you fell into the pool facing the water and didn't see the person clearly."
"That's why they want to use this opportunity to blame the innocent Mr. Meng. Not only can they clear themselves, but they can also blame our Nanyou Palace. Mr. Xu said... am I right?"
On the ground.
Xu Ruoyan looked up suddenly upon hearing this, looked at Ji Qiubai in disbelief, shook her head vigorously with trembling lips, and said:
"No, how could it be possible that you..."
Ji Qiubai glanced at Xu Ruoyan with sarcasm, stood up and tugged at his wrinkled robe, not wanting to listen to his nonsense.
Turning his head, he said sternly to the Nanyou King who had pretended not to understand and was happily watching the show:
"Father, Mr. Meng is a good friend I just made. Please deal with Xu Ruoyan quickly and don't implicate Mr. Meng. I have to go visit him next door, so I won't stay any longer."
After Ji Qiubai finished speaking, without waiting for King Nanyou's response, he walked away from everyone in the room and left without looking back.
As he walked, he could still hear his father's leisurely yet dignified commands and Xu Ruoyan's sobbing begging for mercy:
"Since we have all the evidence, come and send Mr. Xu back to the Xu Mansion, and tell Mr. Xu's family to prepare a marriage for your young master."
"Lord, wuwuwu, I, I didn't mean it, please forgive me, I don't want to marry a lowly guard! Wuwuwu..., no, wuwuwu, shut my mouth."
Hearing this, Ji Qiubai no longer paid attention to the situation inside the house, and strode to the next door medical room to see Meng Yunlan.
Afterwards, the doctor in the palace prescribed medicine.
Ji Qiubai personally carried the medicine bag and escorted Meng Yunlan out of the Nanyou Palace.
The next day.
The setting sun was gradually approaching the horizon, and the rays of light spread out from the edge, painting the clouds in the sky red.
Su Yuan walked slowly into the mansion as usual. As soon as he approached the main hall, he heard Ji Qiubai's loud voice.
She frowned slightly, a hint of confusion flashed across her eyes, and she stepped over the threshold and entered the room.
As soon as I entered, I saw Meng Yunlan and Ji Qiubai sitting at the upper and lower seats respectively, chatting happily with smiles on their lips.
After a while.
The two men obviously noticed her. Both pairs of eyes were filled with surprise and they turned their heads to look over.
Su Yuan raised his eyebrows when he saw this, walked to the top seat and sat down, turned his head, and asked with concern:
"Yunlan, are you feeling unwell today?"
Meng Yunlan shook his head and replied softly:
"No, don't worry, my wife. I took a dose of medicine yesterday and my stomachache is gone."
Su Yuan hummed softly after hearing this, then turned his gaze to Ji Qiubai and said:
"When I came back last night, Yun Lan told me what happened in the palace. No matter what, I still want to thank Master Ji for his help."
Ji Qiubai's lips curved slightly when he heard this. He glanced at Su Yuan, coughed twice and said reservedly:
"Ahem, you're welcome."
Su Yuan nodded, lowered his eyes and thought for a while, then said something with a hidden meaning, avoiding suspicion:
"Okay, then you two can chat first. I have something to do in the study. It's getting late now. After you send Master Ji off, remember to call me for dinner."
Meng Yunlan nodded in understanding.
Seeing this, Su Yuan did not stay any longer and strode out of the main hall, leaving behind Meng Yunlan, who had a smile on her face, and Ji Qiubai, who had a livid face as he said only one word before his lover left.
He frowned and glanced at Su Yuan's back, clenched his fingers, forced a smile on his face, stood up and said goodbye to Meng Yunlan:
"Mr. Meng, I think Patriarch Su is right. It's getting late. You guys should have dinner. I won't disturb you!"
Meng Yunlan pursed her lips and nodded:
"Okay, I'll take Master Ji out of the house. It's better to go back home early. It's not safe after all when it's too dark."
