Chapter 3 Fainting
Su Yuan didn't expect things to develop to this point. She sighed, frowned and said in a deep voice:
"Nan Chu, your life or death should not be determined by someone else's words. Your idea is wrong. Besides, if you want to stay, you must still be my Su Yuan's legally married husband."
"The reason I ask this is because you had no choice from the beginning, and now I want to give you a chance to choose, that's all.
Since you are so determined, the Su family will be your permanent home from now on, and no one will drive you away. "
When Nan Chu heard the words "The Su family will always be your home", she could no longer hold back and sobbed, covering her face:
"Uh, wuuuu, wuuuu."
Home, his home, no one will drive him away.
Su Yuan didn't know why he reacted so violently to a matter concerning his reputation, even risking his life.
He has been cautious and lived a miserable life in the Nan family for so many years, and this idea has never occurred to him.
All of this comes from his father.
My father was accused of adultery and was thrown into a pig cage and died.
After Nan Chu's father died, no matter if he was a kid of the same age or an uncle or an elder brother in the village, they all thought that he was tainted with the word "adultery".
Some even went further, saying that he was the child of illegitimate marriage, the child of his father's affair, and the older he gets, the less he looks like his mother.
His mother heard so much that she believed what people said and started to beat and scold him. If it weren't for his face, which could be sold for a good price if he was kept for a few more years, she would have drowned him long ago.
His previous marriage with Gu Ranran was also because his mother saw that the Gu family had some savings, so she wanted to become related to the family and find a way to get some money.
Unexpectedly, all the other people’s money was saved for their daughter’s education, and the mother was left with nothing.
Also, Su's father wanted to find a good-looking man worthy of Su Yuan for his daughter, so he bought him at a high price. Otherwise, he might have been sent to a brothel by his mother.
Su Yuan had poor empathy, but seeing Nan Chu crying so hard with red and swollen eyes, she softened her voice unconsciously and lowered her posture to coax her:
"Be good, don't cry."
Su Yuan had never coaxed anyone before, and it seemed that he couldn't say anything else to coax others except this sentence.
She sighed softly, took a step forward, held Nan Chu's head with one hand, placed it on her abdomen, and patted his back twice with one hand to comfort him.
Unexpectedly, the force was not controlled well, and two muffled "bang" sounds were heard, as if someone was hitting someone.
Nan Chu felt the force on his back and looked up in confusion, looking at Su Yuan with confused eyes, not understanding why his wife wanted to hit him.
Su Yuan smiled awkwardly at him, and then touched the spot where he had just taken the photo.
"I'm sorry. This is my first time coaxing someone and I'm not very experienced. I used too much force. Are you okay? Does your back hurt? If you want me to take a look, please."
Nan Chu saw that his wife was naive and there was no trace of the strong sense of oppression that she had just given him.
Finally, she burst into laughter, then became shy again, and said with red cheeks:
"My dear wife, I'm fine. It doesn't hurt. Please don't look at me anymore."
When Su Yuan heard him say that it was okay, she suddenly understood.
It was probably because Nan Chu was thin and weak, with only skin inside, that the slap was so loud, not because she lost control of her strength and used too much force.
She handed Nanchu a handkerchief:
"Wipe your tears and nose. After dinner, I will go get a doctor for Daddy."
Nan Chu understood immediately after hearing this. Daddy has been coughing since yesterday. This happened after he came to the Su family. It was probably the same before. He nodded:
"Don't worry, my wife, the meal will be ready soon."
As he spoke, he added another handful of firewood to make the fire burn more vigorously.
After waiting for about an incense stick of time, the meal was ready and the aroma of the food wafted from far away.
The two of them brought the food to the dining table in the main room.
Father Su saw that the two children had prepared the meal, so he struggled to move his stool over, sat down at the table, and said with a faint smile:
"Let's start eating. You two have been busy for so long, you must be hungry. Eat more."
There was some meat and eggs left over from yesterday’s wedding banquet, so Nan Chu fried two meat dishes, a vegetable, and cooked a pot of rice porridge.
Originally, he wanted to make a meat dish, but just now in the kitchen, Su Yuan asked him to cook everything, saying that it was to nourish the bodies of his father and himself.
After the meal was served, Nan Chu observed Su's father's expression and felt relieved when he saw that he didn't look unhappy and didn't say that he was a spendthrift.
At the dinner table.
The two men were polite and left the meat and eggs for Su Yuan, saying that she would be going out soon and needed to eat more to replenish her energy.
Su Yuan didn't say anything. He divided the dish into three portions and put them into the bowls of the three people respectively. It was fair and just, and the other two people had nothing to say.
After dinner, Nan Chu cleaned up the dishes.
Su Yuan planned to go to the village and ask a doctor to come and see her.
Doctors in town generally don't go out for consultations, and it's not easy to take Dad out in the ice and snow. What if his condition gets worse?
She was just about to turn around and say hello to her father and go out, but she didn't expect that Father Su would fall down in front of her, both physically and mentally.
Su Yuan was startled when he saw this, and ran over to help his father up, calling out, "Daddy, Daddy?"
Father Su kept his eyes closed and did not respond.
Su Yuan reached out and sniffed the patient's breath: There's breath, so he's still alive.
She exhaled and thought to herself: 'Fortunately, I just fainted.'
Su Yuan called Nan Chu loudly and asked him to look after the patient. He then went to the village doctor's house and invited Doctor Qian:
"Doctor Qian, please take a look at my father. He has been coughing for the past few days and has difficulty breathing. His face and lips are pale. He just fainted after breakfast."
After hearing the symptoms, Doctor Qian took Su's pulse and checked other parts of his body. He paused for a moment before speaking:
"Alas, your father has been overworked and his health has been severely damaged. It was also cold and he caught a cold. The two symptoms occurred simultaneously, so he fainted. This is only treating the symptoms, not the root cause. I can't cure this disease."
"Perhaps you can take him to Huichun Hall in town, maybe there's a glimmer of hope."
Su Yuan took a breath. As expected, she had guessed it right. She didn't know if Father Su could survive this time.
Never mind, let’s send him to town first.
"Nanchu, go to Daddy's room and get some thick clothes and bedding. Come out and prepare them. I'll go to the headman's house to borrow a car and get ready to go to town in a while."
After Su Yuan finished explaining things to Nan Chu, he and Doctor Qian left the house and strode towards Zheng's home in Lihua Village.
"Pah, pah, pah."
"Wu Lizheng, Aunt Wu, are you home?"
"Pah pah pah pah."
Wu Guiyan's family was eating breakfast around the table when they heard a series of knocks on the door and shouting.
She was so angry that she put down her bowl and replied loudly:
"I'm here, I'm home. Stop knocking on the door. Who is this so early in the morning?"
As she finished speaking, Wu Guiyan also opened the door. Seeing that it was Su Yuan, she said unhappily:
"You damn girl, don't you usually stay at home? Why are you coming to my house so early this morning?"
