Chapter 2 Finding Evidence

Shu Yan wasn't in the mood to sit idly by and wait for her fate. Ye Zhiqiang and Li Jiaojiao were always seen together, which was ready-made evidence. Unfortunately, no one would testify for her because the social status difference between the two was too great. Finding witnesses was impossible, so she could only try to find physical evidence.

Hire someone similar to a private investigator to take various intimate photos of Ye Zhiqiang and Li Jiaojiao, preferably catching them in the act. Ye Zhiqiang is not only lecherous but also cares about his reputation. With the photos, the initiative will be in her hands.

Judging by the timeline, Li Jiaojiao is already pregnant, which is why she's so eager to push Ye Zhiqiang to divorce her. We need to find the hospital where Li Jiaojiao had her check-up, and it would be best if we could get her medical report.

Time was running out for her. Ye Zhiqiang was forcing the original owner to divorce him, and who knew what he might do? He was a construction foreman with a group of men under his command. When a man becomes ruthless, he won't think about marital affection, let alone care that you bore him a child.

She immediately got up to change her clothes and went to find someone. Standing in front of the dressing mirror, Shu Yan's high spirits were instantly crushed. She wasn't exactly beautiful, but she wasn't ugly either; she was just average-looking. After tidying herself up, quite a few people would compliment her on her looks.

What's in the mirror?

She's only about 1.57 meters tall, not very tall to begin with, and overweight, weighing at least 130 pounds. Her stomach is especially noticeable, looking like she's seven or eight months pregnant. Her skin is dark and rough, and most importantly, her face is covered in pregnancy spots. Combined with her messy hair, she looks well over forty. The only consolation is that her features are generally good, but even the best features can't withstand such a disfigurement. I'll look away from this unpleasant sight. The first thing I'll do after the divorce is lose weight, then do skincare and remove the spots. I don't expect to become a beauty, but at least I need to look energetic and like a twenty-five-year-old.

With only a few clothes in her wardrobe, Shu Yan casually picked out a set of casual clothes, put on a pair of trendy plastic sandals, and went downstairs.

The house has five floors. The first floor has a living room and kitchen. The second floor has two rooms, one in the front and one in the back. The front room is where the original owner and Ye Zhiqiang lived. Of course, Ye Zhiqiang rarely came back. Usually, the original owner and Ye Tianbao lived there. The back room is Ye Jingjing's room. The third to fifth floors were only painted white and had no decoration.

This house was acquired by a boss who owed Ye Zhiqiang money for construction work. It's worth about 150,000 yuan now, but in 2019, it would have been worth at least five or six million yuan, and there would have been no market for it.

Shu Yan glanced around briefly. The house was deserted, and the two children were still at their grandmother's in the countryside. This gave her peace of mind to collect evidence.

According to her memory, the city was called Xicheng, and its geography, language, and customs were almost identical to her hometown in her previous life. This was a good thing, as it prevented her from feeling completely alienated.

I was stunned as soon as I stepped out the door. In this day and age, without a cell phone or the internet, where am I supposed to find a private investigator?

Needless to say, the original owner of this body was a housewife. She herself was just an ordinary person who had never encountered this type of person before, and for a moment she really didn't know what to do.

Desperate, Shu Yan frantically searched through her memories, and her eyes lit up. The original owner's uncle's youngest son had been a hoodlum in the western part of the city, and she heard that he had now become a local tyrant. Last year, when her uncle was beaten up, he directly led a group of people back to their hometown, and the other party had to pay a lot of money to settle the matter.

In the countryside, people gossip even if you don't work hard, let alone your cousin who's so famous. They might not dare say anything to your face, but they'd be criticizing you behind your back. Anyway, Shu Yan's parents always told their children not to have any contact with her cousin. The original owner of this body had been in Xicheng for over a year and hadn't contacted this cousin at all, which shows how distant their relationship was.

The original owner thought the other party was a hooligan and should not be associated with, but Shu Yan did not think so. According to her memory, this cousin was very protective of his younger siblings when they were young. Anyone who dared to bully them at school was beaten up by him. Even now, if relatives in the family are bullied and come to his cousin, he will immediately take people back. He is also filial to his parents and grandparents. Last year, he took his grandparents to the hospital for a check-up. Nowadays, how many elderly people in the countryside would go for a check-up? His grandparents were definitely the first. In any case, he was more than a hundred times better than the original owner's brothers.

There are risks involved in contacting him; the divorce must absolutely not be known to my family back home.

Shu Yan first strolled around the city. There were shops selling clothes, food, and general merchandise, but no private investigators or similar services, not even a small advertisement.

Upon seeing a photo studio, Shu Yan hesitated for a moment before going inside.

"Does this gentleman want to take a photo?" The man who approached was a man in his thirties with a mustache and long hair, exuding the aura of an artist.

"No, I'm just looking around." Shu Yan nodded and left. If she told him she wanted him to take photos of her catching her in the act, he'd probably think she was defiling his art. Oh well, let's find another place.

The man at the next house wasn't dressed like an artist, but he was old enough to be her grandfather. She had originally wanted to find someone who could take photos and pay them extra to do so, but it seems that won't work now.

However, this old man was quite old and a local. These days, it's not bad for someone to know how to take photos. Shu Yan decided to ask him about it.

"Sir, do you know where I can find a private investigator in the West City?"

The old man looked at Shu Yan inquisitively and shook his head. "Girl, you've seen Hong Kong movies, haven't you? There are no private detectives in China."

There definitely are, they just don't know it. Shu Yan thanked the old man, turned and left. It seemed she really had no choice but to ask her cousin.

After searching several nightclubs, Shu Yan finally found her cousin playing cards.

"Who did you say was looking for me?" Shu Jianyang asked, a cigarette dangling from his lips, looking at the newcomer with suspicion.

"She said she's your cousin, named Shu Yan." They both have the surname Shu, so she probably wouldn't be lying to him, right?

"Third Brother, is she really your cousin? Isn't she pretty? Introduce her to us." A man with dyed blond hair said with a grin across from Shu Jianyang.

My cousin shoved him away, saying impatiently, "Get lost, Fifth Brother, you do the hitting for me, I'm going to see my cousin."

Seeing his cousin standing at the door, Shu Jianyang raised an eyebrow. Usually, this cousin would look at him like he was a plague, but today the sun must have risen in the west? She actually came to see him.

"Third Brother." Upon seeing the person, Shu Yan immediately recognized him as her cousin. "I've come to you today to ask for your help." Shu Yan got straight to the point.

After a long day of running around, Shu Yan didn't think she could find anyone, so she could only ask her cousin for help.

Shu Jianyang was even more surprised by Shu Yan's reaction; he never expected his cousin to ask him for help.

"Wait a moment, I'll tell them." Shu Jianyang didn't ask any questions, but said a few words to the people not far away, and then led Shu Yan to a teahouse not far away.

The waiters inside seemed very familiar with Shu Jianyang, and with a smile, they led them to a private room on the second floor. Clearly, Shu Jianyang was a frequent visitor to this teahouse.

"It's safe here, you can say whatever you want." After saying that, the cousin slapped his thigh lightly. He was confused. His cousin had only asked him for help to put on a good show. What could be so serious?

"Before we talk, can you promise me something, Third Brother?" Before coming to find Shu Jianyang, Shu Yan analyzed his personality: he was open-minded, kept his word, and was someone who responded better to gentle persuasion than force.

Shu Jianyang frowned.

"It's not a difficult matter, it's just that I don't want my hometown to know, especially my family. If you feel uncomfortable, Third Brother, just pretend I was never here," Shu Yan quickly said.

Shu Jianyang was surprised and looked at his cousin across from him. It was indeed Shu Yan, but her personality had changed quite a bit. "Okay, I agree. Go ahead and say it."

Shu Yan wiped away her tears and cried, "Third Brother, Ye Zhiqiang is keeping a woman outside and wants to divorce me."

"What?" Shu Jianyang's face darkened. Although he wasn't very close to Shu Yan, he wouldn't allow outsiders to bully his sister.

He had actually seen Ye Zhiqiang a few times at the disco. It's normal for a man to invite a few girls to liven things up when he's out doing business, but keeping a mistress is different, and it even led to a divorce.

"Why would you keep something this big from your family? What exactly happened?" Logically, Shu Yan should have contacted her parents and brothers, but instead of keeping it from them, she came to him.

Shu Yan shook her head, choking back tears, and said, "Third Brother, don't you know my parents and brothers? They can't know about this. If they do, they will never let me get a divorce."

"You want a divorce?" Shu Jianyang was truly shocked this time, staring wide-eyed at Shu Yan.

He thought Shu Yan came to him to threaten Ye Zhiqiang so that he would break off his relationship with the other woman and change his mind. He never expected that Shu Yan also wanted a divorce.

"Ye Zhiqiang forced me to divorce him. He was determined to leave. He didn't even want his two children for that woman, let alone me." Shu Yan sniffed. "I agree to the divorce, but I absolutely cannot let Ye Zhiqiang get rid of me so easily. He can only divorce me if I leave with nothing."

Looking at his ruthless cousin, Shu Jianyang swallowed hard. They say the most poisonous heart is a woman's. When a woman gets ruthless, what chance do men have?

"What do you want to do?"

"Third Brother, do you know about private investigators in Hong Kong movies?" Shu Yan continued after seeing Shu Jianyang nod, "Find a private investigator for me to take photos, the more the better, the more intimate the better, preferably with audio recording, and it would be even better if you could catch them in the act."

"Cough..." Shu Jianyang took a sip of tea, cleared his throat, and asked somewhat absentmindedly, "Is there anything else?"

"The woman Ye Zhiqiang is keeping is pregnant. Third Brother, can you help me find out which hospital the examination was conducted at? If you can get the examination report, it will be very strong evidence."

Shu Jianyang didn't speak. Shu Yan was anxious, but she waited calmly. After a long while, Shu Jianyang nodded, "Okay, leave this to me."

"Thank you, Third Brother." Shu Yan breathed a sigh of relief and took out a roll of money from her pocket. "I was in a hurry and didn't go to the bank to withdraw money. Third Brother, please use this first."

"Take it back." Shu Jianyang said with a sullen face, displeased.

Shu Yan shook her head. "This isn't something that Third Brother can handle alone. You're my brother. It's fine if you don't give money, but you have to give it to the people below. Third Brother, this isn't much, please keep it. Don't make things difficult for your sister."

Seeing Shu Yan's insistence, Shu Jianyang sighed and accepted the money. "Alright, but this is enough. Don't give me any more next time."

Seeing that he accepted it, Shu Yan smiled and nodded, "When does Third Brother plan to take action? What do you need me to do?"

"No rush. I'll let you know when I've made the arrangements and then I'll call you to catch them in the act." Shu Jianyang's lips curled into a sneer, his expression cold.
