Chapter 37 Watching the Show

Compared to the bustling atmosphere of the previous days, the shop was much quieter. They only made a little over two hundred yuan in the morning. Seeing that Zhang Huaxiu and Yingying looked quite embarrassed, Shu Yan couldn't help but laugh and say, "Don't be discouraged, business will be better on the weekend."

The two exchanged a glance, and Zhang Huaxiu admired Shu Yan's composure. "Boss lady, how about we organize another event?"

"The reason an event is an event is because it's rare. If there were events every day, would it still be an event? This is the normal state now. Go outside and see, which store has so many customers every day?" Shu Yan recalled some clearance sales she had seen before, where they would shout "clearance sale" every day. After a while, people would know it was fake.

The two, who were originally spinning like tops, were really not used to it. Shu Yan asked them to remove all the things that had gotten on the door from the event and wrote a recruitment notice on it. If there was a store manager, she would be able to relax a lot.

There wasn't much business in the afternoon, so after finishing her accounts, Shu Yan took Tianbao back home. Just as she arrived at the hotel, the owner called her back.

"You still haven't found a place to live?"

“Yes, it’s not easy to find a house you like.” Shu Yan first stayed at this hotel when she arrived in Nancheng. She gradually became familiar with the owners and would chat about everyday things. So the owners knew that the house Shu Yan had rented had been suddenly taken back.

"Why don't you just rent my place?" The landlord saw that Shu Yan was having a hard time raising two children. "I also have a house in the back alley. My husband and I usually stay here and rarely go back to live here. You can stay here for a few months."

"Thank you so much." Shu Yan didn't expect such a pleasant surprise. She took Tianbao to see the house with the landlady. The landlady was very kind and told Shu Yan a lot about Zhu Hong.

"That Zhu Hong looks all smiles, but she's got a knife hidden inside. She loves to fawn over the powerful and belittle the weak. When her in-laws were young, she called them 'Mom and Dad' so affectionately. But when the two old people got older and sick, she turned on them faster than anyone else. Luckily, the two old people have a daughter, who has now taken them away. Anyway, after a while, we all know what kind of person she is, and we don't like to associate with her anymore. You're just unlucky to have rented her house."

"It's not exactly bad luck. It's just that I met such good people like you and the boss. There are still more good people than bad in the world," Shu Yan said with a smile.

“We just can’t stand it. Besides, you’re only staying for a few months. It won’t work if you stay any longer. My son wanted to stay here when he came back for winter break,” the landlady reminded her.

"I know, my house is almost finished, and I can move in by the end of the year. I'll be inviting you and the boss to a housewarming party then, and you absolutely have to come," Shu Yan said with a smile.

She now truly understands the importance of getting to know more people. In a society based on human relationships, it's not as simple as children distinguishing between good and bad. She can now understand why her parents still maintain contact with some relatives they don't get along with.

The layout of the apartment is similar to the one I rented before, but the interior decoration is completely different. Since it's for my own use, it's fully equipped and kept exceptionally clean.

One room belongs to the owners, and the other to their son. The landlady's son is studying at a university in another city and only comes back for summer vacation.

“I’ve been cleaning here regularly, so you can move in right away. The sheets were just changed, so you can change into your own. I’ll pack up the wardrobe and put your clothes in there. You can use everything in the kitchen, but you’ll have to bring your own salt, soy sauce, and such.” The landlady turned on the bathroom light, which contained a gas water heater and some toiletries. “These are my son’s. You can use them if you want; they’ll break if left out.”

After viewing the house, the landlady gave Shuyan the keys, and she could move in anytime.

Shu Yan thanked Tian Bao profusely and took him to the new house to get his things. The landlady's house had everything, but it was better to use her own daily necessities, pots and pans, and bed sheets and duvet covers. Especially the bed sheets and duvet covers, it wasn't that she disliked them, but she just felt more comfortable using her own.

When she returned, Shu Yan noticed that the floor had been mopped. It must have been done by the landlady when she came to clean. This was really... Shu Yan put her things down, rolled up her sleeves, and first took off the bed sheets and duvet covers from the landlady's room, washed and hung them up to dry. She then put her own bed sheets and duvet covers on, put the clothes of the mother and her two children into the wardrobe, and tidied up the kitchen so that they could move in.

"Tianbao." Shu Yan took a breath and realized that she hadn't heard Tianbao make a sound for a long time. She went out to check and found that the child had fallen asleep on the sofa. She picked him up and carried him to the bed. Looking at him sleeping so soundly, the corners of her mouth curled up slightly.

Children are particularly sensitive, especially after coming to a new city with Shuyan. It's as if they know they have to rely on Shuyan, their mother, for everything, so they don't dare to throw tantrums. They've been very well-behaved lately and are trying to gain her approval. Children are good at heart; the reason they're naughty is because they have naughty parents.

After tucking him in, Shuyan went to the kitchen to get everything ready. Tianbao had also woken up.

"Mom, will we live here from now on?"

“Yes, we’ll live here from now on. By the end of the year, we’ll be able to move into our own new house, and then we won’t have to move anymore.” Shu Yan knew that moving around wasn’t good for the child, but there was nothing she could do about it.

When Shu Yan took the child to Teacher Liu's house, Jingjing had already gone to school. Only Teacher Liu and her husband were at home. Shu Yan explained her purpose, and Teacher Liu agreed without hesitation.

"It's good that you've found a place to live. It's best for the mother to take care of the child herself." Teacher Liu took Shu Yan to pack her things, while telling Shu Yan how sensible Jing Jing was. Every time she cooked, Jing Jing would help wash and prepare the vegetables. When she saw that the food was almost ready, she would help get the bowls and chopsticks. After eating, she would also help clean up. She was completely different from the other male classmate.

Shu Yan wasn't very happy to hear this. It's good that the child is sensible, but being too sensible is also heartbreaking. She must be afraid that Teacher Liu will dislike her and stop taking her along, and that she will increase her mother's pressure, so she behaves so well.

The full-time care fee is 100 yuan per month, and Teacher Liu insisted on returning the money to Shuyan.

"What are you doing?" Shu Yan pushed the money back. "I run my own business and often need to go to buy goods. I might need to trouble you to take care of Jingjing then."

The money was definitely not going to be returned; on the contrary, Shu Yan bought meat and fruit as a thank-you gift.

When I picked up Jingjing from school in the afternoon, she saw Shuyan and her eyes lit up. She ran over with her schoolbag on her back and said, "Mom, what brings you here?"

"Mom found a house, so I've come to pick you up and take you home." Shu Yan held one child's hand in each hand as she went to the market to buy groceries and cook for the two children.

Tianbao is doing well; he's been with Shuyan these past few days. Ye Jingjing hasn't had her mother's cooking in a long time. She ate a big bowl of rice when she tasted the familiar flavors, and was stopped by Shuyan when she went to get more rice.

"Your stomach hurts from eating too much, stop eating." Shu Yan discovered that Ye Jingjing had lice again while washing her hair. Where did she get them from?

"I don't know, Mom, it's so itchy." For some reason, Ye Jingjing was more affectionate than before after returning home.

Shu Yan quickly washed her hair and then took her to the living room to remove the lice. Fortunately, there weren't many, but her clothes and pants still needed to be boiled, along with the clean change of clothes.

The next day, Shu Yan took the two children to school. Tianbao couldn't wait to run into the school; the little rascal was so bored at home.

As soon as Shu Yan arrived at the store, she asked Zhang Huaxiu, "Has there been any commotion next door today?"

"No." Zhang Huaxiu looked at Shu Yan, puzzled.

"It's alright. How was business yesterday afternoon and evening?" Shu Yan flipped through the ledger and counted the money. It totaled a little over 1,200 yuan, which was not bad.

"So-so." Zhang Huaxiu and Yingying didn't think so. When they were doing the event, they made seven or eight thousand a day, and even broke ten thousand on the best day. Now, a little over a thousand is a huge difference.

Shu Yan smiled and said, "A little over a thousand is quite a lot. How come you guys are more generous than me, the boss?"

Both employees in the store receive a meal allowance. When they were doing a promotion, Shuyan saw how hard they were working, so she ordered food to eat with them. Now, of course, they have to find their own way. Both of them brought their own lunchboxes. Zhang Huaxiu was better off, as she had a meat dish, a vegetable dish, and an egg. Yingying only had a cabbage and two steamed buns.

"Are you full from eating like this? Are you short of money? I can give you an advance on your salary," Shu Yan couldn't help but ask.

"I love eating like this when I'm full," Yingying said with a smile.

Do you like eating like this? We've eaten together before, and every time Shu Yan orders two pieces of meat, they're all eaten up, with Ying Ying eating the most. Now, there's not a trace of oil in this cabbage. You're not exactly short of money, so there's no need to be so frugal. But that's other people's business, and Shu Yan can't interfere.

When Shu Yan returned from lunch, she saw a large crowd gathered next door, with even Zhang Huaxiu and Yingying craning their necks to look out from the shop entrance.

"What's wrong?"

"Boss lady, you don't know, Ah Le next door is actually someone's mistress. This shop was opened by that lover, and now the first wife has found out and brought a group of people to smash up the shop. Boss lady, come out, come out..." Yingying said excitedly.

Shu Yan peeked out and saw two men dragging out a woman who had been stripped naked; it was none other than Ah Le.

"Help! Murder! Help! Someone save me! Call the police! I need to call the police!" Ah Le suddenly snapped, shaking off the two men and covering himself up.

At this moment, a beautiful and elegant woman wearing a light purple dress walked out of the store. She looked at Ah Le from a distance, as if she would be disgusted if she got too close.

"It's not shameful to find a man, so what's there to be afraid of?" the woman said calmly, showing none of the excitement or madness one would expect from a wife beating up a mistress.

“It’s your own fault for not being able to control your man. What can I do if he comes to me? You should go find him, why are you coming to me?” Ah Le looked around, then suddenly looked at Shu Yan, “Give me some clothes, please…”

Shu Yan raised an eyebrow. Was she crazy? She had treated her like this before, and now she was asking for her help. She moved to the side, letting the person next to her block her view.

"Zhu Hong, Zhu Hong, help me, help me!" Ah Le was just desperate and grasped at straws. Seeing Zhu Hong nearby, he quickly asked her for help.

Unexpectedly, Zhu Hong spat at her contemptuously, "I never thought you were a mistress. Don't ever say we know each other again. I can't bear the shame."

Ah Le's eyes widened. Zhu Hong knew that Ah Le was a mistress, yet she was saying such a thing.

"Cousin." Fan Xiaomei took off her coat and covered Ale with it, then hugged her. Fan Xiaomei looked at the woman and said, "What kind of ability is it to come to my cousin? If you're so capable, you should be able to control your own man."

The woman looked at Fan Xiaomei with great interest, "I haven't even looked for you yet, I didn't expect you to come by yourself."

"What do you mean?" Fan Xiaomei looked at the woman warily.

Is it fun to have two women serving one husband?
