Chapter 8 Divorce

Shu Yan moved with her child to Shu Jianyang's house, while Shu Jianyang moved to his friend's house next door. Although they were cousins, they were both grown up and it was inconvenient for them to live together. As a grown man, he could just make do with whatever he wanted.

Ye Zhiqiang arrived at the hotel only to find it empty. He searched for a long time before finally finding Shu Jianyang. As he searched, he gradually calmed down.

Where is Shu Yan?

"What's up?" Shu Jianyang raised an eyebrow.

"What's the deal with the photos?" Actually, without Shu Jianyang's help, what Shu Yan wanted to do was not so simple at all.

A stack of photos was thrown in front of Ye Zhiqiang. "I'm just showing you how I kill a chicken. Next time, I'll slaughter a monkey."

The photo didn't show his face, and Ye Zhiqiang was initially relieved, but then anger surged up again.

"What exactly does Shu Yan want?"

"Simple, divorce, you leave with nothing." Shu Jianyang leaned back, crossed his legs, and said nonchalantly, "If I were you, I would agree. There's a saying that money lost can be regained. With your abilities, you'll be a hero again in three to five years. Can you wait that long? Can your darling wait that long?"

Shu Jianyang just said it casually, but he didn't expect Ye Zhiqiang to actually be interested. Could it be that he's really into love?

"Where is Shu Yan? This matter needs her to handle." Ye Zhiqiang was worried about Shu Jianyang.

The three sat down in the teahouse again. Shu Yan looked at Ye Zhiqiang and sighed that this was indeed a novel world, where even a scumbag could give up everything for true love.

“All the money, the house, and the car are yours. The company will be converted into cash, which means I’m leaving with nothing.” When Shu Yan first obtained the evidence, Ye Zhiqiang had considered various countermeasures. Transferring assets wouldn’t work; he consulted a lawyer who said it was illegal. Asking Shu Yan’s family to stop him wouldn’t work either.

It's not the same as having a rich son-in-law. If the Shu family knew that Shu Yan could get all of his wealth if she divorced, they would be more than happy for her to get a divorce.

He doesn't actually have much money on hand; it's all tied up in projects. The only valuable assets he owns are a few houses and a car. The company can't function without them; that's how he makes a living. He borrows money or takes out loans, converts them into cash, and gives it to Shuyan. Once the two projects he's working on are completed, the money will come back to him.

Shu Yan's mind raced as she calculated that she was able to take the initiative for two reasons. First, Ye Zhiqiang was completely unprepared for the original owner of this body, catching him off guard. Second, she had borrowed Shu Jianyang's influence. Asking Shu Jianyang for help once or twice was fine, but she felt embarrassed to ask him for help too often.

The initial goal was to get the money, leave Xicheng far away, and start over with the child. Ye Zhiqiang's suggestion wasn't a bad one.

"Third Brother, can you find someone from the appraisal company?" Shu Yan's words implied that she had agreed to Ye Zhiqiang's conditions.

Of the four houses, besides the one the original owner lived in, there were three in the bustling city center, one of which could be used as a storefront. Shu Yan glanced at the address; Ye Zhiqiang's foresight was indeed excellent. The location of the storefront would become the liveliest pedestrian street in the future, with the rent from the first and second floors alone amounting to hundreds of thousands of yuan annually. The other two houses would be demolished later, and whether they received monetary or property compensation, it would be a worthwhile deal. A car worth 200,000 yuan—the total value of all these items alone was over a million yuan. The company was established at the end of the year before last, with only 100,000 yuan in its accounts. Most of the money was tied up in construction projects. The two projects on hand could earn over three million yuan upon completion. After calculating for a while, the company's total value was 1.5 million yuan, which Ye Zhiqiang converted into cash and gave to Shu Yan.

"Wait a minute." Shu Yan suddenly remembered that Ye Zhiqiang had also bought Li Jiaojiao a house. "According to the law, the house is considered joint property after marriage. So, can I reclaim the house he gave to his mistress?"

Upon hearing this, Ye Zhiqiang's face darkened. "Shuyan, don't go too far."

"Is that too much? That was our joint property. You used it to support your mistress and you still think you're right?" We agreed that I would leave with nothing, so I'll give her everything.

Ye Zhiqiang took a deep breath. The house wasn't expensive to buy, but the renovation took a lot of effort. He figured he'd just give it to them and buy another one later.

"Fine," Ye Zhiqiang said through gritted teeth, "Can the cash from the company be paid in installments? 1.5 million is too much; I can't come up with that much cash all at once."

"No way," Shu Yan refused outright. "I don't trust your character."

She should take the money and leave as soon as possible; the longer she stays in Xicheng, the worse it will be for her.

Ye Zhiqiang's face darkened further. He clenched his fist and said, "I can only find someone to scrape together 300,000 yuan. You're a woman with a child, and you can't spend it all at once. Just consider it a loan to me, and I'll give you two percent interest."

Shu Yan shook her head again, "I don't care what method you use, this money must be transferred to my account within three days. Also, if anything happens to me or the child within three days, I will hold you responsible, and who knows what I might do then."

Are you kidding me? You think lending money out will ever come back? That's like throwing good money after bad, gone forever.

To avoid any unforeseen complications, they went to complete the transfer procedures that afternoon. Shu Jianyang found an acquaintance, and everything went smoothly, taking just over an hour. When Ye Zhiqiang left, Shu Yan's savings account had an extra 300,000 yuan.

Shu Yan was incredibly grateful that it was the 1990s. If it were 2019, there would be absolutely no way to make Ye Zhiqiang leave with nothing. If he had a thicker skin, there would be no threat at all.

Seeing Ye Zhiqiang's gloomy face, Li Jiaojiao felt a little timid and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong, honey?"

"It's nothing. I'm getting a divorce in a few days. Are you happy?" Ye Zhiqiang asked with a slight smile, his arm around Li Jiaojiao.

"She agreed to the divorce?" Li Jiaojiao's eyes lit up, and she unconsciously touched her stomach, asking gently, "Didn't she threaten you?"

Ye Zhiqiang's face darkened. "She wants all the houses and cars."

"She's asking for an exorbitant amount!" Li Jiaojiao exclaimed.

"There's nothing we can do," Ye Zhiqiang sighed. "Going to court won't do us any good." Ye Zhiqiang cleverly avoided telling Li Jiaojiao the truth.

The next day, Shu Yan had another house under her name. She breathed a sigh of relief. Having transmigrated into the book, she had finally achieved victory in the first stage.

On the way back, Shu Yan gave the vehicle registration and car keys to Shu Jianyang. She had directly put the car in Shu Jianyang's name during the transfer yesterday; he could just complete the paperwork later.

What are you doing?

"Third Brother, don't be so quick to refuse. Let me finish. You know Ye Shiqiang well. I've pushed him to this point, so he'll definitely find a way to retaliate. And you know my family too; they know I have money. From now on, my child and I won't have any peace and quiet. I plan to sell the property here and take my child to another city to start over. I can't drive, so it's just sitting there unused. Third Brother, please do me a favor and help me drive this car so it doesn't become scrap metal." If it weren't for Shu Jianyang running around helping her, Shu Yan wouldn't have gotten anything.

"What nonsense are you talking about? This car is very well maintained and can still be sold for at least tens of thousands of yuan. This thing is too valuable, I can't take it."

"Why not take Ye Zhiqiang's things?" Shu Yan stuffed the things directly into Shu Jianyang's arms, leaving no room for refusal.

Shu Yan's personality is very simple: if you're good to me, I'll be good to you too; if you're not good to me, then I'm sorry, don't expect me to be completely open with you, not even with my own brothers. As long as I fulfill my obligations to my parents, being completely open with them is impossible.

Unable to refuse Shu Yan's request, Shu Jianyang finally accepted the car.

To be honest, Shu Yan was particularly interested in the other houses. They could be left there for a few years and their value would increase dozens of times, which would be better than any other investment. But they came from Ye Zhiqiang, which would bring endless trouble later on.

She decided to cut ties cleanly and sell all the houses. Since house prices are cheap across the country now, she could buy houses in other cities without even looking, and make a steady profit in ten or twenty years.

"Third Brother, I need your help with these properties." After hesitating for a moment, Shu Yan said, "I don't know how much money you've made over the years, but if you have the money, buy a house. Ye Zhiqiang has a good eye; these properties are all in the city center, especially this storefront. I don't know how he bought it; I heard they're building a pedestrian street there, and now you can't even buy one if you want to. If I wasn't worried about Ye Zhiqiang causing trouble, I really wouldn't be willing to sell it. Third Brother, you've been so good to me, so as your sister, I'll speak from the bottom of my heart. What you're doing now shouldn't last long. Who knows when there will be another crackdown? You should stop as soon as possible. Look at Ye Zhiqiang; he never went to school, but he's still a boss. Third Brother, you're even better than him, and you have a bunch of brothers under you. Why don't you also go into construction projects? With money and manpower, are you afraid of not being able to do business?"

In the 1990s, when opportunities were plentiful, Shu Jianyang was quick-witted. If he put his intelligence into the right path, he would certainly be successful, and perhaps even achieve more than Ye Zhiqiang in the future.

Shu Jianyang was intrigued by Shu Yan's words. As he got older, he gradually began to think about getting married and having children. Once a person has this idea, he has a desire for stability. However, their line of work is fraught with danger, and they could lose their lives at any time. How could they dare to get married and have children? As his cousin said, he has money, people, and connections. Why can't he contract projects like Ye Zhiqiang?

Why not be even bolder and just buy land and build houses?

Shu Yan was unaware that her cousin was exceptionally bold.

“I’ll consider it. A house? My dad wants me to go back to my hometown and build a house.” Shu Jianyang hesitated.

If you decide to start a business, you need to set aside at least this amount of money. The remaining money is only enough to buy one house, and it won't be enough if you want to build another house in your hometown.

“You’re only home for a few days during the Lunar New Year, so why build a house? Of course, you should buy one in the city. Houses in good locations in the city are hard to come by. You can build one in your hometown anytime.” Shu Yan knew that the older generation valued returning to their roots, and there was no such thing as investing in real estate back then.

Shu Jianyang is a very audacious person; otherwise, he wouldn't have gotten to where he is today. He acts on his ideas immediately. When he thought Shu Yan's suggestion was feasible, he immediately found someone to pull strings and register a company. The company was located upstairs in the building on the pedestrian street.

He took Shu Yan's advice and bought the house for 300,000 yuan without batting an eye.

It seems my cousin has made a lot of money over the years. He can take 300,000 yuan without hesitation. No wonder so many people are involved in this business; it's a quick way to make money.

Of the other four houses, two were bought by Shu Jianyang's brothers. They saw Shu Jianyang showing off his purchases and couldn't resist buying them too. Twenty years later, when the group gathered together and recalled the scene of buying the houses, they couldn't help but marvel at their own wisdom and brilliance at the time.

She could just sell the house that the original owner had lived in and the one she got from Li Jiaojiao. Then she could take the child and the money and leave Xicheng to find a city where no one knew them and start over.
