Chapter 81 DouDou's Mom

Back home, Shu Yan was still thinking about their meaningful conversation at noon. She had subtly told Fang Zeyu that pursuing her would be extremely difficult, and the road ahead would be tough. His resolute answer, given without hesitation, undoubtedly eased Shu Yan's anxieties considerably.

"Boss, someone called you today, saying they're your third brother."

I've told my aunt several times that she can just call me Shuyan or Xiaoyan, but she still calls me boss. After a while, Shuyan stopped caring.

"I understand, I'll tell him right away." These past few days, Shu Yan had been so caught up in Yingying's affairs that she'd almost forgotten about her hometown.

I wonder what Shu Jianyang wanted to call about. Could it be that something happened to Shu Youfu?

"Third Brother, it's me."

"I called you for no particular reason, just to let you know that my second uncle is much better, and also that I gave them the money," Shu Jianyang said simply.

"Okay, I understand. I'm sorry to have troubled you so much, Third Brother," Shu Yan said apologetically.

"You're being too polite. You're my sister, who else would I help if not you? Besides, it's not a big favor. You're raising two kids on your own, just take care of yourself. I'll look after things back home for you." Speaking of which, Shu Jianyang felt he should thank Shu Yan more. Because of her, he not only had a house and a car, but also a legitimate business. He earned a lot of money, and when he went back to his hometown, he was a big shot. His parents could talk big when they went out.

Shu Yan hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Did they say anything after you gave them the money? Did they bother you?"

Thinking of his aunt's and his cousins' expressions, Shu Jianyang still can't help but laugh out loud; it's just too funny.

They argued about the 2,000 yuan for a long time before finally giving it to him on the third day. It seems that he paid another 2,000 yuan afterward. When he went to see them today, he gave 1,000 yuan to his second aunt, saying that it was from Shuyan. At that time, his second uncle almost sat up and kept asking where Shuyan was.

Shu Jianyang simply replied, "I don't know."

Do you think they're stupid? It was understandable for them to say they didn't know before, but it's going too far to say they don't know now.

But Shu Jianyang only said one thing: he didn't know. He didn't know where Shu Yan went, nor did he know her phone number. He always waited for Shu Yan to contact him. This time, it was just a coincidence.

Shu Jianyang's reckless attitude left Shu Youfu and Lin Zixiang with no way to deal with him.

After hearing Shu Jianyang's words, Shu Yan couldn't help but laugh. Only someone like her third brother could deal with people like her parents.

I wonder what will happen if Fang Zeyu goes? Shu Yan immediately shook her head. What is she thinking!

After hanging up the phone, Shu Yan started packing her change of clothes and told her aunt that she was going to buy goods that night.

"I used to think that opening a clothing store was the easiest thing, but now I realize that nothing is easy." The aunt made some snacks for Shuyan to take with her on the way.

"Every profession is like a mountain to climb; it looks easy to others." Shu Yan smiled, realizing that many things are only truly understood after one has done them.

While waiting at the entrance of the residential area, she saw a car that looked somewhat familiar approaching. She glanced at it but didn't pay much attention. There were quite a few people with cars in the residential area, and there were some familiar faces coming and going every day. She then saw Fang Zeyu sticking his head out of the driver's seat.

Let's go.

"You're driving?" Upon closer inspection of the license plate, it was indeed the same car that had taken her and Yingying that day.

"My driver has something to do at home today, so I'm driving. Don't worry, I've been driving for over ten years, so you don't need to worry about my driving skills," Fang Zeyu said with a smile.

Is it a problem with driving skills? It's clearly a problem of why the instructor didn't come.

Once in the car, Shu Yan fastened her seatbelt, still wondering if Fang Zeyu had kicked the driver out.

Judging from her eyes, Fang Zeyu knew that she still had doubts. He sweared to God that his master really had something to do and couldn't go.

The two have been eating lunch together every day for the past few days, and there's no awkwardness between them.

In the past, when Shu Yan arrived in Hangzhou, she would go straight to a hotel to sleep and didn't need to care where Fang Zeyu would rest. He said he wanted to go see Dou Dou, but it was the middle of the night, and Dou Dou's mother was a widow, so he definitely couldn't go. He would either rest in the car or somewhere else.

After hesitating for a moment, he asked, "Where are you resting?"

"I'm in the car. I'll go see Dou Dou tomorrow morning." Fang Zeyu opened the car door for Shu Yan, preparing to get her a room.

"Do you want to... get a room too?" It doesn't seem right to just leave him in the car and go to sleep by myself.

"Okay." Fang Zeyu didn't stand on ceremony and agreed as soon as Shu Yan asked. He needed to be considerate in Nancheng, but not in Hangzhou. Just like Old Mao said, if he didn't thicken his skin a bit, his wife would run off with someone else.

When the landlady saw that it was Fang Zeyu who brought Shu Yan over again, she smiled ambiguously. When she heard that they wanted two rooms, her expression became even more ambiguous. While Shu Yan went to get hot water, the landlady whispered, "Well done, young man, you're quick."

"Friends, we're just ordinary friends," Fang Zeyu quickly said.

"You think I'm stupid?" the landlady said. "Sister, my eyes are sharp. If you two were just ordinary friends, I'd eat this table. Xiao Yan always stays here when she comes to Hangzhou. I'm quite familiar with her. She's not an ordinary woman; she's very decisive. The fact that she agreed to give you a ride and even let you stay at the same hotel as her means your deal is pretty much done."

"What are you talking about?" At this moment, Shu Yan came over with hot water.

"It's nothing, I'll get it." Fang Zeyu took the thermos.

At three o'clock, Shu Yan quietly got up, dressed, and prepared to go to buy goods. When she opened the door, she saw Fang Zeyu waiting for her at the door.

"I'm going to buy supplies, you don't need to get up so early."

"It's okay, I can't sleep anyway, I'll go with you."

Seeing the determination in his eyes, Shu Yan finally nodded in agreement.

Fang Zeyu followed the crowd in, and just as they were about to be separated, he reached out and grabbed Shu Yan, shielding her in front of him.

Shu Yan looked up at him and felt inexplicably at ease. When she was grabbing the goods, Shu Yan suddenly realized that it was particularly easy to get the goods this time. As long as she saw something she liked, it seemed that no one was competing with her and she could take it as she pleased. When she looked back, she found that Fang Zeyu was blocking her from all of them. With his big body and such a face, he was quite intimidating just standing there.

Shu Yan smiled gently. To outsiders, he was probably a plague god.

Previously, it would take until around 6 o'clock to finish shopping, but today it was done by 5 o'clock. Shuyan then went to a few more old shops to restock the goods she needed, and it was only a little past 6 o'clock when she left the market.

"Can I take some?" All the goods were with Fang Zeyu, and Shu Yan wouldn't get any even if she wanted to.

"It's okay, it's not heavy." Fang Zeyu avoided Shu Yan's hand.

Seeing that he was indeed carrying nothing, Shu Yan stopped arguing. With so many people around, it wouldn't look good to push and shove like that.

"Let's go have breakfast first." After putting her things in the car, Shu Yan said, "Aren't you going to see Dou Dou? Go see him after breakfast, I'll wait for you in the car."

"Aren't you coming in with me to take a look?" Fang Zeyu paused for a moment and asked.

Shu Yan thought about it for a moment. She had really been frightened at the hospital last time, so she shook her head and said, "Let's forget about it."

When DouDou's mom found out that ShuYan was in the car, she scolded Fang Zeyu and then came out to pull ShuYan inside.

"Ah Yu is really something. You're already here and he won't even take you in. If I hadn't noticed something was wrong, he wouldn't have said anything." Dou Dou's mother glared at Fang Zeyu again.

"It's not his fault, I told him not to say it, mainly because I was afraid of causing you trouble," Shu Yan quickly explained.

"What do you mean by causing me trouble? I was planning to take DouDou to visit you during the New Year, but AYu had to ask you first before he found out you were traveling. I already told AYu that if you come to Hangzhou to buy goods, just come to my house. Although my cooking skills are not great, it's still edible. But you didn't let AYu tell me." DouDou's mother pulled ShuYan to sit down, pouring tea and serving her food.

Shu Yan smiled awkwardly; she was afraid of this kind of enthusiasm.

"DouDou, come out quickly, see who's here?"

Shu Yan saw a little boy come out. He had big eyes and looked very clever. However, Shu Yan recognized him, but he did not recognize Shu Yan.

“This is Aunt Shuyan, the aunt who saved you last time. Didn’t you keep saying you wanted to see her? Come on.” DouDou’s mom pulled DouDou back to Shuyan. “Quickly kowtow to your aunt. If it weren’t for her, you would be dead.”

"Hey! Don't do that. That's why I didn't dare to come. If you keep doing this, I'm leaving." Shu Yan quickly got up.

“Sister-in-law, you don’t need to do this. Yan Yan isn’t used to it,” Fang Zeyu also tried to stop her.

Upon hearing this form of address, DouDou's mother glanced at the two of them again, smiled, and said, "Alright, since A-Yu says so, then I won't do it that way."

Shu Yan was dumbfounded. What did he mean by saying that if A Yu said so, she wouldn't do it this way anymore? It was as if Fang Zeyu could make decisions for her.

"You guys are here too, why are you still eating breakfast? Anyway, you have to have lunch before you leave today." With that, she put on an apron and went into the kitchen to prepare, not listening to Fang Zeyu and Shu Yan at all.

While everyone else was busy, Shu Yan couldn't just sit and wait to eat, so she went in to help pick the vegetables.

"No need, no need. You can go outside and sit with A-Yu. If you're bored, A-Yu can take you for a walk around. He knows this area well."

"It's nothing," Shu Yan smiled.

"Yan Yan, is it okay if I call you that?"

"sure."

“Has Ayu told you? He and my husband were comrades-in-arms who risked their lives together. My husband sacrificed himself when he was young, and I owe a lot to them for taking care of me all these years. Ayu lives close to me, so he helps me even more. He may look fierce, but he actually has a very good personality. He's meticulous and responsible. Women, when they're young, they judge by looks, but after marriage, they realize that no matter how handsome a man is, if he has no sense of responsibility, no commitment, and doesn't care for them, then his good looks are useless.”

"Sister-in-law, I know he's a good person." But why tell her this?

DouDou's mom nodded. "I was afraid you'd misunderstand and be scared by his face. That scar was inflicted to protect the country and its people. According to my husband, it's a medal of honor, something to be proud of."

"I think so too." Shu Yan, who was picking vegetables, finally came to her senses. It turned out that she was trying to speak well of Fang Zeyu.
