Chapter 16 Enrollment

There aren't so many rules when you're traveling. If the bed is comfortable, you can move in. Shuyan called a tricycle and moved everything in one trip. Jingjing is very sensible and helped with whatever she could. Tianbao's biggest help was that he didn't make things worse.

"Mom, can I go to school on Monday?" Ye Jingjing has been happy ever since she found out in the afternoon that she could go to school in two days.

"Yes, you're going to school soon, are you excited?" Shu Yan took out her clothes and hung them on the bed railing. The landlord here is really stingy; there's nothing but two old beds.

The new house is all built-in wardrobes, so buying another wardrobe would be a waste. Shu Yan suddenly missed Taobao in her world, where everything was available and delivered to her door. She could buy one of those simple cloth wardrobes for a few dozen yuan and not feel bad about throwing it away.

However, she couldn't leave her clothes unattended for the next few months. When Shuyan went shopping, she asked the shopkeeper for two cardboard boxes. She placed one at the foot of the bed to store clean clothes, and cut off the top of the other box to place it opposite the bed to store dirty clothes.

She ran downstairs and bought an electrical wire and some nails. On the way back, she picked up a stone and hammered a nail into each side of the wall in the room. After tying the wire together, Shuyan tugged on it and found it to be fairly secure. She then hung the clothes that had been hanging on the railing at the foot of the bed onto the wire. She would use it like this for now.

The two children ate too much cake at the sales center today and didn't want to eat dinner. Shuyan simply ate a tomato for dinner.

Ye Jingjing was sleeping next door. It turned out that she often slept alone in her hometown, so she wasn't afraid. Ye Tianbao slept with Shu Yan. As soon as he got on the bed, he kept jumping around, making the wooden bed thump loudly.

"Tianbao, it's time for bed. I'll take you to our new house tomorrow," Shu Yan said gently, suppressing her temper as she brought back the clothes from the balcony.

She finally understood why so many women become more irritable after getting married and having children. It wasn't that they wanted to get angry, but that they were just too tired. She was still relatively well-off now, but if she were poor, Shu Yan couldn't imagine what that kind of life would be like.

"Stop jumping! If you jump again, Mommy will get angry." Shu Yan couldn't recall what the parenting experts had said about not telling children "no," not threatening them, and trying to reason with them. When faced with a naughty child, should she let the expert try? Let's see if he could get the child to sit down and listen to her reasoning.

Seeing Shu Yan's face darken, Ye Tianbao finally stopped jumping around and obediently lay down, saying, "Mommy, I'm thirsty."

"..." Shu Yan got up and poured him a glass of water. After he finished drinking it, she put down the glass and went back to bed.

"Mommy, I need to pee, I need to pee..."

"..." Shu Yan carried him to the toilet to pee, and only lay down after they came back.

"Mom, I can't sleep."

Shu Yan... turned off the lights and shoved Ye Tianbao into bed, saying, "Go to sleep, or I'll take your sister out to play tomorrow if you're left alone at home."

After a long period of fussing, she finally fell asleep. Shu Yan breathed a sigh of relief. It is said that you only know the love of your parents when you raise children. This is absolutely true. You really don't know how tiring it is to raise children until you raise them. Thinking about her classmates and colleagues, they have to work, take care of their children, do laundry and cook. So it was really a wise choice for her not to get married before.

When it was dawn, both children were still asleep. After washing up, Shu Yan went out to buy breakfast and returned home just as the sun was rising. She dug the two children out of bed. Today, she was going to visit the new house. Shu Yan was worried that they wouldn't go to see the children.

The keys to the apartment complex had already been given to Shu Yan. When they arrived, the workers were already inside. Upon seeing Shu Yan, the foreman quickly came out.

"Ms. Shu, are you here to look at the house?"

“Yes, we're taking the kids to see the kindergarten, and we'll check out the house while we're at it.” Shu Yan smiled. After showing them the master bedroom, she took the two children to see their own rooms. “Jingjing, this will be your room from now on. Mom is planning to buy you pink curtains and sheets, or do you prefer a different color? You can tell Mom. This is the wardrobe. We'll buy the desk and bookcase after the renovation is complete. Is there anything you want?”

Ye Jingjing looked at her room with delight. She never expected that she would have her own room, and her mother said that she would buy her all new rooms, and they would be pink.

"I..." Ye Jingjing mustered her courage, "Can I have a rag doll?"

She once saw a rag doll by her cousin's bedside at her aunt's house, and she really liked it, but she never dared to say anything.

"Of course." Shu Yan would fulfill any reasonable request from the child.

The house wasn't finished yet, so you couldn't see anything clearly. But Shu Yan still took Ye Tianbao to his room to take a look, told him that this was his room, and asked him what color he liked. Unsurprisingly, he chose blue.

The two children had lived in the new house in the west of the city, so they couldn't feel the joy of living in a new house, nor could they understand the excitement Shuyan felt about buying a house in the south of the city.

Oh dear! It's like casting pearls before swine.

Shu Yan stopped taking the children to look at houses and instead took them to the market to buy groceries, which immediately excited the two children.

When they passed the fish stall, Ye Tianbao couldn't walk any further and kept clamoring to buy fish. Shu Yan thought that she had been eating nothing but bland food lately, so she went along with his wishes and bought a fish. But when the boy got to the chicken and duck shop, he wouldn't leave again.

"Mommy, Mommy, little chick, shall we buy a little chick?"

"No, we've already bought fish today, we can't buy anything else." If we let him have his way, he'd probably want every live animal in the market, except for people.

During lunch, Ye Tianbao saw the fish on the table and cried very sadly, saying, "Mom is a bad person."

"..." Shu Yan thought he wanted to eat fish, so did he want to raise fish?

"What should we do? Mom has already cooked it. Aren't you going to eat it? It's delicious. If you don't eat it, Mom and your sister will eat it all."

Then Ye Tianbao drank the fish soup while sobbing. I was afraid there might be bones in the fish meat, so I didn't dare to give it to him.

Shu Yan decided not to renovate after only staying for a few months. She spent the day resting at home with the children on Sunday. In the evening, when the sun was high in the sky, Shu Yan took the children out to buy school bags and stationery.

"I want that one," Ye Tianbao exclaimed, pointing to a blue backpack.

"Jingjing, which one do you want?" Shuyan thought she would choose a pink backpack, but unexpectedly she chose a black one. "You like black?" If so, then the room decoration needs to be changed.

Ye Jingjing shook her head, "Black ones don't get dirty easily."

Shu Yan didn't know what to say for a moment, so she squatted down and asked her, "Never mind that, which one do you like?"

"That." Ye Jingjing pointed shyly to her pink schoolbag.

Shu Yan patted her head and said, "Then buy that. You're just a kid. Just focus on your studies, eat and sleep well. Don't think about so much."

Suddenly thinking about Ye Jingjing's hair, I realized the little girl's short hair would probably be teased, so I bought her two hats, one red and one pink. "If anyone asks you, just say your original hair wasn't good, so Mommy cut it for you to grow back, okay?"

If Ye Jingjing said she cut her hair because of lice, the children wouldn't understand at first. But when they got home and asked their parents, the parents definitely wouldn't let them play with Ye Jingjing anymore, even if she no longer had lice.

On Monday morning, Shu Yan took the children to have breakfast and then went to register at Chengxi Elementary School. She explained her purpose to the gatekeeper, who demanded to see the registration form before letting them in.

"Alright, you can go in." The gatekeeper looked at the registration form and finally nodded to let them through.

"Excuse me, where do I go to register?" It was her first time here, and Shu Yan didn't even know which way the teacher's office door faced.

"Go straight this way, turn left at a flower bed, there's a staircase, the second room on the third floor is it."

"Thank you, say goodbye to Grandpa." Ye Jingjing and Ye Tianbao waved goodbye obediently.

There are nine first-grade classes at Chengxi Elementary School. Ye Jingjing was assigned to Class 5, which is neither a good nor a bad class. Shu Yan didn't say anything. If you study well, you will naturally be able to enter a good class. If you study poorly, you will definitely be transferred to a bad class. Shu Yan didn't plan to put too much pressure on her child.

"Jingjing's mom, this is the tuition fee payment receipt. Please keep it safe. Also, school uniforms and shoes are required at school. Do you know Jingjing's size? I suggest buying one size up so she can still wear it next year. Of course, buying two sizes up is also fine; many parents would choose that." The teacher was a very gentle woman, speaking softly to Shuyan.

"My child has always been on the thinner side, so even the smallest size would be too big for her." Shu Yan knew about school uniforms, but she had never heard of school shoes before.

A little while later, the teacher brought over two sets of school uniforms. I put on the jacket, and sure enough, it was much too big.

"Jingjing is too thin. Jingjing's mother, you need to give your child more nutrition. If you don't supplement it now, it will be too late later." The teacher glanced at the chubby little boy following behind Shuyan and was a little unhappy. "Times have changed. Whether it's a son or a daughter, they will be filial to their parents if they become successful."

Shu Yan understood the meaning behind her words and didn't explain further. "Yes, I will definitely supplement the child's nutrition later."

Since it was someone else's family matter, the teacher didn't say much. "Class is about to start, so I'll take Jingjing to the classroom first."

Shu Yan knelt down and straightened her daughter's collar. "From now on, listen to your teachers at school and get along well with your classmates, okay?"

"Okay, I'll listen to the teacher obediently." Ye Jingjing followed the teacher, turning back every few steps.

Shu Yan was worried, so she secretly went to Class 5 and peeked carefully from the back door. She saw Ye Jingjing sitting in her seat and chatting amicably with her deskmate before she left with Ye Tianbao.

Kindergarten registration isn't as complicated as primary school registration; you just register and pay. Besides, these little rascals are carefree; they forget about their mothers as soon as they see other children and start playing with them in no time. They don't even remember they have a mother anymore.

With her two children in school, Shu Yan felt a sudden emptiness in her heart, as if something was missing from the house.

With the children at school, she now needs to plan her own life. First, she needs to lose weight; second, she needs to take care of her skin; and then, she needs to focus on her business.
