Chapter 373 Li Huarong's Angry

Manager Li put down the teapot in his hand and walked angrily to Jiang Yuwei.

"Are you deaf? Didn't you hear me tell you to go first?"

As he spoke, Manager Li waved his hand and began to shoo people out.

Seeing this, Xia Yue said angrily:

"What are you doing? Stay away from our lady!"

Seeing this, Manager Li withdrew his hand. Just as he was about to say something more, he heard Li Huarong, who was sitting at the table drinking tea, speak:

“Madam Jiang, you must be from the countryside and don’t understand the rules of the capital. Here, there’s no such thing as forcing someone to buy your goods. Since Manager Li doesn’t want to do business with you, why are you still lingering here?”

Jiang Yuwei sneered.

"Oh, isn't this Miss Hua Rong from the Ministry of Rites' residence? What brings you here to meddle in such trivial matters?"

As Jiang Yuwei spoke, she stepped forward and stared at Li Huarong, saying:

"What, is it your custom in the capital to sign a contract and receive a deposit so you can just back out?"

Upon hearing this, Li Huarong's face stiffened. She then glared at Manager Li standing to the side before speaking:

"No matter what, if they don't want to sell your shop, you should be sensible and leave as soon as possible to avoid making things awkward for everyone."

Jiang Yuwei looked Li Huarong up and down and slowly spoke:

"You've really been raised like a young lady, acting so arrogantly and unreasonably. If that's how you put it, then I'll have to go out and ask whether this is the rule of the capital or a rule set by your Minister's Mansion!"

As she spoke, Jiang Yuwei turned and went outside, whispering a few words to Xia Yue. Then she heard Xia Yue call out.

"Guards! Everyone come and see! Miss Li from the Minister's residence is bullying someone here!"

Hearing that there was something exciting to see, everyone rushed over.

Upon hearing Xia Yue's words, Li Huarong, who was inside the house, hurriedly chased after her and anxiously called out:

"Don't talk nonsense, I didn't bully anyone!"

Jiang Yuwei turned and glanced at Li Huarong with a meaningful smile, then turned back around and explained to everyone with a wronged expression:

"I signed a contract with Manager Li yesterday to buy this shop, and I even paid the deposit. We were supposed to go to the government office to transfer the ownership this morning. But then, Miss Li said I didn't understand the rules of the capital and refused to let Manager Li sell the shop to me."

As she spoke, Jiang Yuwei sighed.

"Alas, we are just a small family and can't compare with the Minister's Mansion. After all, they have the rules. We, from the countryside, really don't understand the rules of the capital. They can even go back on our word after receiving a deposit."

"Nonsense! When did our capital city ever have such a rule!"

"Exactly. Putting aside everything else, the shops on our Jin Street are all extremely trustworthy. How could they possibly go back on their word after signing the contract and receiving the deposit?"

"Manager Li, come out and say something! What exactly is going on here?!"

"We can't let one bad apple like you ruin the reputation of our Golden Street!"

"Yes, and she's supposed to be the daughter of a high-ranking official? I think she's stupid. How could she be so blind as to bully a woman from out of town!"

Seeing this scene, Jiang Yuwei was naturally very satisfied. If it were in Fish and Bird Lane, probably no one would dare to stand up for her, because most of the people living there were ordinary folks. She was barely able to take care of herself, so how could she care about other people's troubles?

But this Golden Street is different. The people living around it are either officials or wealthy, and most of the passersby are also prominent figures, or at the very least, servants or relatives of high-ranking families.

When faced with such a situation, everyone wants to say a few words to show their status. Now that Jiang Yuwei has shown weakness, everyone naturally speaks up for her.

Li Huarong was naturally afraid that this matter would escalate, after all, she was in the wrong. If she hadn't passed by her distant cousin's shop yesterday and sat down for a while, she would have been in the best of luck.

Only then did she realize that her cousin had gambled away all the family's wealth and was even going to sell the ancestral home to Jiang Yuwei, so she decided to stop him.

She didn't want to get involved in this mess, but the thought of upsetting Jiang Yuwei made her decide to lend some money to Manager Li to pay off his debts, on the condition that he wouldn't sell the house to Jiang Yuwei.

Li Huarong had been looking forward to seeing Jiang Yuwei suffer a setback today, but she never expected that Jiang Yuwei would shout in the street and even involve the Minister's Mansion.

What secrets could there be on this Golden Street? If word gets out about this today, where will I put my face? And what will Ning Zixuan think of me?

Li Huarong grew increasingly alarmed as she thought about it, and hurriedly went out to grab Jiang Yuwei's arm, trying to pull her back into the house.

"Don't talk nonsense. Let's come inside and talk. Don't let others laugh at us!"

Seeing her pulling at her like this, Jiang Yuwei suddenly shook off her arm and said in a tearful voice:

"What's wrong? Does your Minister's Mansion have the face to do this but not the face to say it? I'm not going in. If you want to talk, say it right here in front of everyone!"

Li Huarong panicked and hurriedly waved her hands at the crowd, saying:

"Don't misunderstand, everyone. This matter has nothing to do with the Minister's Mansion. This Manager Li is just a distant cousin of mine. Whether he sells the shop or not is none of our Minister's Mansion's business. This is between them and has nothing to do with me!"

Jiang Yuwei glanced at Li Huarong and said:

"This is none of your business. What are you doing here? I can tell you're the one in charge. That Manager Li has no opinions of his own and just follows your orders!"

"That's right, I think you're definitely involved in this."

"Miss Hua Rong, why don't you just stay in the Minister's mansion and be a good young lady? Why are you meddling in other people's business?"

"They just saw that the shop was valuable and wanted to interfere."

"Surely the Minister's residence isn't short of money, is it?"

Hearing what everyone said, Li Huarong broke out in a cold sweat and hurriedly waved her hands to explain:

"No, no, this has nothing to do with me, Manager Li, please say something!"

Manager Li had never seen such a scene before, and he was completely stunned. He stared blankly at Li Huarong and said:

"Miss Hua Rong, should we sell this shop to Madam Jiang or not...?"

Upon hearing Manager Li's words, Li Huarong's face immediately turned red with anger.

"You, you're such an idiot! Don't come looking for me again. I won't help you anymore, hmph!"

With that, he flicked his sleeve and left with the maids and servants following behind him.

Only Manager Li remained, staring blankly at Li Huarong's retreating figure, muttering to himself:

"What happened to me? Why is Miss Hua Rong angry?"

Jiang Yuwei glanced coldly at Manager Li and said:

"Now that the Minister's Mansion isn't backing you up, are you sure you still want to break the contract? If you're not afraid that Brother Gui will come looking for trouble with you this afternoon, then I'll take you to the authorities and let the officials settle our dispute!"
