Chapter 301 Lin Feng Delivers Things

Seeing this, Yang Liu scratched her head and smiled sheepishly:

“Your Highness has a better eye. Even if you showed it to me, I wouldn’t be able to tell whether it’s good or bad.”

Upon hearing this, Princess Qinglan waved her hand impatiently and said:

"Forget it, forget it, I can't count on you to give me any advice anyway. Someone, wrap up this, this, and that all for me."

After saying that, Princess Qinglan got into the carriage without looking back.

As soon as Jiang Yuwei entered the courtyard, she saw Gou Dan and Ning Zhao carrying bamboo baskets, preparing to go out to cut grass to feed the cattle.

"You two come back early, and be careful when you go out. We've just arrived here and aren't familiar with the area yet. Don't go too far when you're mowing the lawn, okay?"

As Jiang Yuwei adjusted the straps of Ning Zhao's bamboo basket, she looked at the two of them and gave them some instructions.

Gou Dan and Ning Zhao nodded in unison.

"Okay, we'll be back in a bit."

Jiang Yuwei instructed Tiezhu to drive the oxcart to the cowshed in the backyard, while she went into the main house to check on Ning Huaizhi's condition.

"Huaizhi, how are you feeling today?"

As soon as Jiang Yuwei entered the room, she saw that Ning Huaizhi had actually stood up, so she quickly went forward to help him.

"Your injuries haven't fully healed yet, so don't force yourself to get up and move around, lest you aggravate your wounds."

Ning Huaizhi smiled and waved his hand, saying:

"Yuwei, don't be nervous. I know my own body. Right now, I'll practice more so that I can go to the palace to meet the emperor sooner. I also want you to move into the big courtyard to live as soon as possible."

As the two were talking, they heard a knock on the door outside the courtyard.

"General, it's me, Lin Feng! I've come to bring you some things!"

Just as Jiang Yuwei was about to go out and open the door, she saw Tie Zhu run out from the backyard and open the gate. Jiang Yuwei then helped Ning Huaizhi into the yard, brought a soft cushion and laid it on the stone bench before helping Ning Huaizhi sit down.

Upon seeing this, Lin Feng quickly stepped forward and bowed, saying:

"General, your injury hasn't healed yet, why did you come out? I didn't come here for anything else today. I just thought that this courtyard has been uninhabited for a long time and we don't have many daily necessities, so I bought a little bit of everything to bring to you. My sister-in-law is new here and doesn't know where to buy these things."

Jiang Yuwei looked towards the door and saw an old man standing outside, pushing a cart full of things, including food and household items. She really didn't expect that Lin Feng, who seemed so carefree, would be so meticulous and buy back everything she needed.

So he hurriedly called Tiezhu and Ningwu to go out and move things, and instructed Daya to brew tea.

Seeing this, Lin Feng quickly waved his hand and said:

"Madam, please don't bother. I have to rush to the military camp to train the soldiers after I deliver the things. The general will be returning to the camp soon, so I need to give these soldiers a good training session so that the general won't be upset."

Then, Lin Feng looked at Ning Huaizhi and said:

“General, your old subordinates heard that you have returned to the capital and they are all eager to see you. However, I thought that you are not feeling well, so I refused them all, saying that they would come to see you together when you are better.”

Ning Huaizhi nodded and smiled:

"Alright, I haven't seen them in a long time and I miss them very much. After I go to the palace to meet the emperor, I will invite them to gather in the courtyard."

Lin Feng nodded happily and said:

"Then I must hurry up and tell them this good news. Yesterday I went to the palace to report the news of your arrival in the capital. The Emperor was very happy. Hearing that you were still injured, he told me that you can come to the palace to meet the Emperor whenever your injury has healed."

As they were talking, Ning Daya had already brewed the tea. Jiang Yuwei took the teapot Ning Daya brought over, poured a cup for Ning Huaizhi first, then poured a cup for Lin Feng, and then smiled at Lin Feng:

"Deputy General Lin, no matter how busy you are, you must have a moment to have a cup of tea. Please sit down and let's talk."

Upon hearing this, Lin Feng looked at Ning Huaizhi with a troubled expression.

Ning Huaizhi laughed and said:

"If your sister-in-law offers you a seat, please sit down and have some tea before you leave."

Seeing that Ning Huaizhi had spoken, Lin Feng quickly sat down, took the teacup from Jiang Yuwei with both hands, and smiled:

"Then I shall respectfully comply."

Jiang Yuwei poured herself another cup of tea before looking up at Lin Feng and saying:

“Deputy General Lin, now that we’re all staying in your courtyard, we can’t just stay for free. I’ve discussed it with Huaizhi, and we definitely have to pay for the room. Otherwise, we won’t feel at ease staying here. Also, how much silver did you spend on this cartload of stuff you just bought? I’ll pay you all at once.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Feng choked on half of the tea he had just drunk, coughed violently a few times, and quickly waved his hand, saying:

“Madam, what are you saying? My house is just sitting empty anyway. I'm glad you don't mind that my yard is small. Why should I have to pay for the house? That cart of things outside was a gift to the General. It's nothing compared to the life-saving grace the General has shown me. Now that you're saying these things, are you trying to distance yourself from me? Yes, what did I do wrong?”

Ning Huaizhi shook his head and smiled helplessly after hearing Lin Feng's words:

"See, I told you, Lin Feng won't accept it."

Seeing that Lin Feng spoke sincerely, Jiang Yuwei also spoke up:

“Deputy General Lin, you have done a good job, and we are very grateful to you. However, since you said this was a gift for Huaizhi, we will accept it. But we cannot stay in this house for free. If you don’t want to see us go through the trouble of finding a new house and moving again, then you must charge us for the house.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Feng immediately scratched his head in frustration.

"General, you, you've made a mess of things."

Ning Huaizhi downed the tea in his cup in one gulp and looked at Lin Feng with amusement, saying:

"Since your sister-in-law insists on giving you money, just accept it. You can use it to treat your brothers to drinks later. Alright, hurry up and take the money and get out of here. My butt is really sore from sitting for so long."

With that, Ning Huaizhi got up and walked towards the main house.

Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei quickly took out one tael of silver from her purse and handed it to Lin Feng.

"See? Your general even asked you to accept this. It's not much, but it's a token of my appreciation. I'm new to the capital and don't know how much the property prices are here. I'll give you this as a return gift, and I'll make up the difference if it's not enough."

Lin Feng reluctantly accepted the silver and quickly said:

"Madam, that's enough, that's enough. Please don't give me any more. I have other things to do, so I won't bother you any longer."

After saying that, Lin Feng turned around and ran out like a gust of wind.

Jiang Yuwei watched his retreating figure, shaking her head helplessly and smiling:

"Lin Feng, are you afraid I'll eat you up?"

Just as Jiang Yuwei was about to get up to close the courtyard gate, she saw the woman she had bumped into at the post station that morning get off a carriage at the gate. She then looked around with disdain and said to the maid beside her:

"Yang Liu, are you sure you haven't come to the wrong place? Can people even live in this kind of environment?"
