Jiang Yuwei was about to apologize when she looked up and met the man's eyes.
Jiang Yaoyao, who was fiddling with her clothes, looked up and met Jiang Yuwei's eyes, and immediately bristled:
"Jiang Yuwei! What a nuisance! I keep running into you everywhere I go!"
Jiang Yuwei glanced sideways at the formally dressed Jiang Yaoyao and said:
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? Why aren't you staying at the brothel? What are you doing here?"
Jiang Yaoyao disliked it most when others mentioned her identity in public, so she blushed with anger and pointed at Jiang Yuwei, scolding her:
"You, you, you have such a vicious heart. It's because of you that I lost Master Ge's favor and had no choice but to come to a place like this to attend the birthday banquet."
Jiang Yuwei raised an eyebrow and smiled:
"That's quite a rare thing. I didn't compete with you for that old man who's over fifty, so why are you blaming me? You lost that old man's favor because you're incompetent, so don't blame others."
Jiang Yaoyao became anxious upon hearing this:
"It's all your fault! You coaxed Father to make a scene at the Ge family paper shop, and then, you made a scene at the Ge family mansion. You made me lose all face. When Master Ge got angry, he stopped talking to me. That's why I was arranged by Granny Sun from the Yi Hong Courtyard to play the zither here."
Jiang Yuwei looked behind Jiang Yaoyao and saw that there was indeed a maid carrying a zither following behind Jiang Yaoyao, so she smiled and said:
"That's your own fault. If you hadn't told your father that I opened a shop on North Street, he wouldn't have bothered to come looking for me. Naturally, I wouldn't have told him that you had established yourself in the Ge family. It's just a pity that you're useless, nothing more than that old geezer's plaything. Otherwise, he would have invited your father to the mansion and treated him as an honored guest, serving his father-in-law, who is about the same age as him, well."
Seeing that Jiang Yuwei's words were full of sarcasm, Jiang Yaoyao angrily clenched the handkerchief in her hand, pointed it at Jiang Yuwei's nose, and cursed:
"You, you don't know what's good for you. Your parents worked so hard to raise you, and you won't even give them a single penny."
Jiang Yuwei stepped forward, looked into Jiang Yaoyao's eyes, and smiled:
"I've been feeding your family of bloodsuckers long enough. Before I got married, you all were treated like slaves. Oh, I'm wrong. Look how much more comfortable the servants in the Sun family were back then. Look how well they're dressed."
Jiang Yuwei pointed to the servants coming and going at the Sun residence and continued:
“Jiang Yaoyao, do you remember to bring it? Although I am older than you, I have only ever worn your patched clothes since I was a child. Your mother is like she is blind and can’t see that the clothes I wear are completely the wrong size. They are short-armed and short-legged, and most of my body is exposed. Not only that, I also have to wear worn-out straw sandals that no one else wears to work in the fields for your family every day.”
As Jiang Yuwei spoke, she fixed her gaze on Jiang Yaoyao and said in a deep voice:
"And you, Jiang Yaoyao, you've been enjoying my sacrifices without a second thought. Now that I've been sold to the Ning family by your parents, and you can no longer bleed me dry, you're all jumping up and down in a panic?"
As Jiang Yuwei finished speaking, she reached out and touched Jiang Yaoyao's clothes, then smiled and said:
"Look, even now you're wearing silk that's a hundred times better than mine, and you have plenty of money on your own now. I can't believe you still have the nerve to ask me to give your parents money. Let me tell you, from now on, you'll have to support your parents yourself. Your whole family had better not come near me and make me unhappy, otherwise, I have a thousand ways to make everyone unhappy."
Jiang Yaoyao disgustedly slapped away Jiang Yuwei's hand that was on her clothes, and clicked her tongue in disapproval:
"Don't touch my clothes with your filthy hands. Whether I have money or not is none of your business, and don't bother asking me anything."
As Jiang Yaoyao spoke, she looked Jiang Yuwei up and down and said with a smile:
"You're here to deliver flowers to the Sun family? You've ended up working as a florist now? You really do everything!"
Jiang Yuwei met Jiang Yaoyao's disdainful gaze and smiled:
"It's true I do a lot of work, but all the money I earn is clean and honest, unlike you, tsk tsk..."
As she spoke, Jiang Yuwei glanced at Jiang Yaoyao and looked her up and down.
Jiang Yaoyao felt even more uncomfortable under her gaze, so she clenched the handkerchief in her hand and said angrily:
"What are you looking at? I earn my money through my own abilities too. Stop pretending to be so high and mighty!"
Jiang Yuwei imitated Jiang Yaoyao and said:
"Oh? You earn money through your own abilities?"
Just as Jiang Yaoyao was about to speak, an angry male voice suddenly rang out:
"I'll make you clean the latrines for making me do this! I'll splatter you to death!"
Jiang Yuwei reacted quickly. She remembered the voice; it was the servant who had made things difficult for her at the door that day. Because of her excellent hearing, she knew that the servant was standing behind her. So she quickly pushed Ning Huaizhi's wheelchair with one hand, picked up Ning Wan with the other, and ran several steps to the side without looking back.
Jiang Yaoyao was wondering why Jiang Yuwei was suddenly so nervous when she looked up and a basin of sewage was thrown directly at her face, instantly filling the entire courtyard with a stench.
Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei quickly covered her mouth and nose, looked at the servant who was holding the bucket of excrement, and frowned, saying:
"What are you doing? It's not like I made you clean the toilets, why are you taking it out on me? Are you trying to bully the weak?"
The servant carrying the manure bucket originally intended to splatter Jiang Yuwei with filth, but Jiang Yuwei dodged it, and the entire bucket of manure was poured on Jiang Yaoyao instead. The servant became even angrier, threw down the manure bucket, and made as if to rush up and tear Jiang Yuwei apart.
"Stop! Men, take him away!"
Steward Li from the Sun family had already heard the commotion and hurriedly led his men over to investigate, where they witnessed this scene.
"No, don't arrest me! I'm going to kill that village woman! I never want to clean the latrine again!"
The servant struggled desperately but was no match for the crowd. Four servants stepped forward and lifted him up, his angry curses fading into the distance.
Manager Li turned around and glanced at Jiang Yaoyao, who was still standing there in fright, with disgust. He spoke impatiently:
"You must be the musician the young master invited today? I'm afraid you won't be able to go on stage like this. Chunhong, quickly take her downstairs to wash up, she smells terrible."
Hearing Manager Li's words, Chunhong didn't dare to refuse, and could only reluctantly call out to Jiang Yaoyao:
"Come with me, be careful not to dirty the floor. The floor was just cleaned up after the old lady's birthday banquet, and now it's all messed up again!"
Hearing Chunhong's dejected mutterings, Jiang Yaoyao didn't dare to say anything more and could only carefully tug at the hem of her skirt and follow behind her.
Jiang Yaoyao had only taken a few steps when she saw Manager Li, who had just looked down on her, respectfully bowing to Jiang Yuwei.
