Chapter 479 Engaged

After Wang Ma received the instructions and left, the princess took Jiang Yuwei's hand again.

"Yuwei, tomorrow's engagement is a big event. I have to go with you, otherwise the Wang family will complain. Come with me to choose a suitable dress."

Jiang Yuwei nodded with a smile.

The princess then instructed her maid to fetch some clothes. After searching for a while, Jiang Yuwei finally picked out a purple-red printed jacket with dark patterns for the princess, but this one was rather thick.

Tomorrow the princess will be out all day, and Jiang Yuwei was worried that her health wouldn't be able to handle it, so she specially chose a heavier but still nicer outfit for her.

After choosing clothes for the princess, Jiang Yuwei took her leave and returned to Jinglan Pavilion to select clothes for herself. As the matchmaker for this marriage, she would definitely go with them tomorrow.

Fearing she would steal the spotlight, Jiang Yuwei chose a slightly more festive pink outfit, which was still respectable.

The next day,

Jiang Yuwei first went to the Princess's courtyard and helped the Princess out. The betrothal gifts to be sent to the Wang family had been prepared long ago and were waiting at the door. Ning Zixuan was dressed very elegantly today, making him impossible to look away from.

Seeing Ning Zixuan dressed so formally, the princess naturally understood Wang Yuru's position in his heart, and so she jokingly said:

"I never knew my own son could be so handsome."

As she spoke, the princess looked at Jiang Yuwei and smiled.

"It's true what they say, having someone you love makes all the difference."

Ning Zixuan blushed upon hearing the princess's words.

"Mother, what are you saying? Hurry up and get in the car, don't miss the auspicious time."

Having said that, he ignored the princess and Jiang Yuwei and went straight out to get into the carriage.

Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei could only exchange a smile with the princess and then follow behind into the carriage.

Soon, this large group of people arrived at the gate of the Prince's Mansion.

The gatekeeper, seeing Ning Zixuan alight from the carriage, hurriedly and happily called out inside.

"Our son-in-law has arrived! Our son-in-law has arrived!"

If Ning Zixuan hadn't had a photographic memory, he really wouldn't have guessed that this person was the servant who had stopped him from entering the mansion yesterday.

Seeing Ning Zixuan standing motionless outside, the servant quickly stepped forward and bowed respectfully.

"Young Master, please come in quickly. Our master and mistress are waiting for you in the front hall."

Ning Zixuan had intended to say a few words to the servant, but considering that today was his wedding day, he didn't want to waste any more time with him. He went forward and helped the princess and Jiang Yuwei off the carriage, and the three of them walked towards the front hall led by the servant.

At this moment, Inspector Wang and Madam Wang, along with Wang Yuru and a group of relatives, were already waiting in the front hall. Upon seeing the Princess and the Crown Prince arrive, they hurriedly rose to greet them.

"Your Highness, you've arrived. Please take a seat."

Seeing this, Madam Wang quickly ordered someone to fetch the prepared hot water bottle and bring it up.

"Your Highness, I have long heard that you are always cold-sensitive, so I specially ordered someone to prepare this for you. Please use it first."

The princess took the hot water bottle and smiled at Madam Wang.

"You're too kind, in-laws. We've brought the betrothal gifts and engagement letter today, but the specific wedding date will have to wait for the prince to return before we can set it."

Madam Wang nodded quickly.

“I know about this. Madam Jiang has already told me. We will leave the wedding date entirely to Prince Jing.”

Princess nodded, and Jiang Yuwei then presented the marriage proposal. Inspector Wang glanced at it and had Ning Zixuan and Wang Yurou sign and affix their seals in front of their family elders.

After the ceremony, Madam Wang hurriedly led everyone to the back for their meal.

Wang Yuru and Ning Zixuan were both extremely excited and nervous. After all, their relationship was now extraordinary, and they were just waiting for the prince to return to the capital so they could hold their wedding.

The two looked at each other and smiled, and were soon separated and taken to their respective tables to eat.

As soon as Jiang Yuwei sat down, a woman dressed in an extravagant manner squeezed in next to her and sat down.

"You must be Madam Jiang. I heard that you were the one who arranged Yu Rou's marriage?"

Jiang Yuwei nodded.

Seeing this, the woman quickly reached out and grasped Jiang Yuwei's hand, saying excitedly:

“Madam Jiang, you are truly remarkable. I have watched Yu Rou grow up since she was a child. I am her aunt, Madam Kang.”

Upon hearing that she was from Madam Wang's family, Jiang Yuwei picked up the teacup on the table and offered it to Madam Kang.

Seeing this, Madam Kang quickly picked up her own teacup and offered a toast to Jiang Yuwei.

“Madam Jiang, you don’t know, Yu Rou has been different from other girls since she was a child. We were all worried about what would happen to her after she got married. We didn’t expect you to be so capable that you were able to get Yu Rou married into the Prince Jing’s mansion. Do you have any suitable men around you that you could introduce to my daughter?”

As she spoke, Madam Kang pointed to the woman sitting next to Wang Yuru, dressed in a yellow robe and exquisitely made up.

"Do you see that? That's my daughter, Wang Ying'er. She's much prettier than Yu Rou."

Jiang Yuwei frowned upon hearing this. It was truly disgusting that Kang Shi, as Wang Yurou's aunt, would belittle her like this at her engagement banquet. So Jiang Yuwei smiled faintly.

"I've never been a matchmaker. The marriage between the young master and Miss Wang was arranged by me by accident. How could I possibly be a matchmaker for your daughter?"

Upon hearing this, Madam Kang immediately became anxious. She quickly put down her teacup, tugged at Jiang Yuwei's sleeve, and whispered closer:

"Madam Jiang, you are being too modest. We all know that you are a favorite of the Princess Consort, and your words are very important right now. You see, our Ying'er and Yu Rou are sisters. Wouldn't it be a double blessing if they could marry into the Prince Jing's mansion together?"

Upon hearing Kang's words, Jiang Yuwei frowned, put down her chopsticks, and looked at Kang.

"Do you think the Crown Prince would be interested in any kind of girl? With his status and family background, what kind of woman couldn't he marry? Why would he want to marry your daughter?"

Jiang Yuwei didn't have a good impression of the Kang family. Now that Wang Yurou hadn't even married into the Jing Prince's Mansion yet, the fact that the Kang family was so eager to put their own daughter in there made Jiang Yuwei look down on them even more. So she spoke her mind and didn't give her a friendly look.

Seeing that Jiang Yuwei was angry, Kang quickly smiled awkwardly and said:

"Don't others lack a good older sister like Yu Rou? Our Ying'er has always been well-behaved and sensible. If she can marry into the royal family and assist Yu Rou in the future, then it would be like keeping the good stuff within the family, wouldn't it?"

As Kang Shi's words became increasingly absurd, Jiang Yuwei frowned.

"Don't talk to me about these things. I can't make decisions for the Princess, let alone the Prince, nor can I make decisions for Miss Wang. If you have such thoughts, you should talk to Madam Wang first!"

Seeing that Jiang Yuwei was unyielding, Madam Kang couldn't help but frown and mutter under her breath:

"If my aunt were reasonable, I wouldn't even need to bring this up; she would have come to me about it herself. Doesn't she know that my Ying'er is still unmarried?"
