By the time Jiang Yuwei finished all that, it was already noon. Seeing that it was getting late, she hurriedly prepared the meal. Today, she needed to cook the dumplings first. Since she was only eating dumplings, she didn't need that many other dishes, so she only made one dish of twice-cooked pork and one cold dish. She made a generous amount of food so that everyone would feel comfortable eating.
Seeing that the fool was wandering around aimlessly, Jiang Yuwei told him to take the dog to cut pig feed and chop firewood around the house. The fool was obedient because Jiang Yuwei always bribed him with food. He knew that if he finished the work Jiang Yuwei asked him to do, he would naturally get good food, so he did it happily.
After finishing her work in the front yard, Jiang Yuwei went to help in the back yard. But she had only been sitting down for a short while when she heard Xiao Jiu's shrill screams from the pond.
Jiang Yuwei didn't care about anything else and hurriedly got up to check the pond. She saw Xiao Jiu rolling on the ground for some reason, with white foam coming out of its mouth. The people who came after them were so frightened by Xiao Jiu's four claws flailing around in the air that they dared not get close. If they were accidentally injured by Xiao Jiu's claws, they would suffer a lot.
Jiang Yuwei was anxiously observing Xiao Jiu's condition when she suddenly noticed half a cornbread next to Xiao Jiu. A thought immediately struck her, and she quickly turned to ask the others:
"Did any of you smell it eating corn tortillas?"
Everyone shook their heads in bewilderment. Jiang Yuwei was also puzzled. She hadn't made any cornbread in the past few days, so how could there be a half-eaten cornbread by the pond? As Jiang Yuwei was thinking, she suddenly looked up at the pond gate, which had been opened at some point.
Jiang Yuwei knew that Xiao Jiu had probably been poisoned, so she quickly turned around and rushed to the kitchen in the front yard. She soaked a large bowl of concentrated salt water in warm water and then shouted to the simpleton who was still chopping wood in the front yard:
"Fool, come with me to the backyard and save Xiao Jiu."
Upon hearing this, the simpleton quickly dropped his axe and followed Jiang Yuwei to the backyard. The simpleton was more enthusiastic about rescuing animals than people, and he could be persuaded to do so without being offered any treats.
Jiang Yuwei led the mentally challenged man to Xiao Jiu, handed him the concentrated saline solution, and instructed him:
"Quick, make Xiao Jiu drink it all down, and then she'll vomit it all out."
The idiot took the bowl and meowed at Xiao Jiu a few times. Everyone thought the idiot was acting foolish again, but to their surprise, Xiao Jiu lay down on the ground without moving after hearing the idiot's voice, weakly looking at the idiot.
Just as the fool walked up to it with the bowl, Xiao Jiu obediently opened its mouth and let the fool pour the whole bowl of concentrated salt water into its mouth.
Jiang Yuwei was overjoyed. As long as Xiao Jiu drank this bowl of water, he would vomit everything in his stomach in no time, and then there would be hope for him.
Ignoring the astonished stares of the crowd, the simpleton turned and handed the bowl to Jiang Yuwei before heading to the front yard alone. Jiang Yuwei watched his retreating figure, muttering to herself:
"If only a fool could pass on this ability to communicate with animals to Wan'er, then Wan'er would have a skill to protect herself."
As Jiang Yuwei was thinking, she heard Xiao Jiu start vomiting. She rushed over to check on her. Just as Jiang Yuwei reached the edge of the pond, she suddenly heard the sound of a stone falling to the ground, followed by a series of soft, rustling footsteps. There was more than one person. Jiang Yuwei hurriedly chased after them to the door to check.
Xu Feng pulled up Xu Jing, who had fallen to the ground, and made as if to run outside. Jiang Yuwei quickly stepped forward, grabbed both children, and pulled them into the yard by their collars.
"Tell me, were you two poisoning Xiao Jiu?"
Jiang Yuwei glared at the two children and said angrily.
Xu Feng's eyes lit up and he burst into tears. Seeing his brother cry, Xu Jing also started crying. Jiang Yuwei, seeing this, slapped each of them on the bottom. It turned out they were faking their tears; now they were really crying.
The two children had been spoiled since they were little, and no one dared to lay a finger on them. Now that they had been hit by their aunt, they were naturally crying and complaining about how aggrieved they were.
Jiang Yuwei was extremely annoyed by their crying and pointed at them, scolding:
"If anyone cries again, I'll throw them into the pond to feed the fish!"
Upon hearing this, the two immediately stopped crying, looked at each other, and covered their mouths with their little hands, but tears continued to fall from their eyes.
Jiang Yuwei glared at the two of them and said:
"Tell me, who taught you this method? To poison Xiao Jiu!"
The two children exchanged a glance, not daring to speak. Their mother had instructed them before they came that they absolutely mustn't say anything out of turn. If they behaved well, their mother would buy them candy when they got home.
Jiang Yuwei knew perfectly well that the two children couldn't possibly have come up with a way to poison animals; they must have been taught by adults. Did they think that just because they discovered it was the children, they could easily let them off the hook? What a joke! If they could poison animals today, they might poison people tomorrow!
Jiang Yuwei grew angrier the more she thought about it, and grabbed the two children by the collars, storming towards the Ning family's house.
Ning Huaizhi, who was carving in the front yard, was unaware of what was happening. His wife was carrying Xu Feng and Xu Jing and walking out. He hurriedly called the simpleton to help him push the wheelchair and follow them.
Jiang Yuwei completely ignored Ning Huaizhi following behind her. If he dared to stop her today, she might as well poison him to death. She could live a good life as a widow with two children.
Ning Huaizhi had no idea that Jiang Yuwei was plotting to poison him, but he could tell from her angry back that someone from the Ning family had provoked her again.
Ning Huaizhi knew that Jiang Yuwei sometimes seemed like a rogue, but she was actually a very reasonable person. If someone else didn't provoke her, she would never go out of her way to annoy others.
Ning Huaizhi followed her out because he was afraid that she would be wronged if she went to the Ning family alone to seek justice.
Soon the group arrived at the Ning family's gate, but Jiang Yuwei didn't go inside. Instead, she called out from outside the Ning family's courtyard:
"You damned bastards, how dare you instigate two children to poison our house! Do you know what a heinous crime poisoning is? I think you're tired of living. If you want to die, come out and we'll all die together!"
Jiang Yuwei shouted very loudly, and the neighbors heard that someone had poisoned the plants, so they all ran out to see what was going on.
"Oh dear, poisoning is a serious crime. Who poisoned them?"
"Oh, aren't these Ning Yunyun's two sons? They're so spoiled, could they be the ones who poisoned her?"
"Oh my god, could it be that old woman Chen Guixiang taught those two kids to poison us!"
"Yes, who would dare to be his neighbor after this!"
Chen Guixiang and Ning Yunyun heard Jiang Yuwei's shouts from inside the house and initially wanted to stay inside, but as more and more people gathered at the gate of their courtyard, they could no longer sit still.
