Chapter 244 Human or Ghost?

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yuwei quickly woke everyone up, and then said to Tie Zhu and Ning Wu, who were lying on the ground:

"You two, grab your tools and head outside. Be careful our stuff doesn't get stolen!"

Upon hearing this, Tie Zhu and Ning Wu naturally dared not delay. They quickly grabbed their weapons and headed out of the courtyard. Seeing this, the others lost their will to sleep and got up to check the situation. However, just as they stood up, they heard Ning Wu shouting outside:

"Ahhhhh, a ghost! Ahhhhh, don't come any closer, don't!"

As he spoke, Ning Wu scrambled into the house, while Tie Zhu stood still, holding his spiked club, his eyes fixed on the white-clad man standing at the gate.

Upon hearing Ning Wu's shout, Jiang Yuwei's heart sank, and she yelled back:

"Who goes there? Playing tricks here!"

With that, Jiang Yuwei grabbed the bow and arrows beside her, rushed out, and shouted to the outside:

"Tiezhu, don't be afraid, he's a human being!"

Tie Zhu didn't believe in these supernatural things, but after Jiang Yuwei said that, he stood firmly in the middle of the courtyard, staring intently at the person at the door.

All that could be heard from outside was a strange, mocking laugh, "Hehehehehe..."

At this moment, Yun Qing also rushed to the center of the courtyard and stood with Tie Zhu, staring intently at the people outside, without making any rash moves.

Ning Zixuan stood behind Jiang Yuwei, ready to protect her at any time.

Jiang Yuwei called out to the people outside:

"If you keep playing tricks, I'll really turn you into a ghost!"

Without giving the man a chance to speak, Jiang Yuwei raised her bow and arrow and shot it towards his heart.

The man seemed to be quite skilled as he quickly spotted the arrow Jiang Yuwei was shooting and grabbed the sword.

Upon seeing this, Jiang Yuwei shouted:

"I knew you weren't a ghost! How could a ghost possibly catch my arrow!"

The person inside, who was trembling with fear, breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Jiang Yuwei's words. It was good that it wasn't a ghost. It was good that it wasn't a ghost.

Seeing this, Ning Wu felt a little embarrassed and scratched his head. He then grabbed his short sword and rushed back into the courtyard, cursing at the man:

"You damned thing, how dare you scare me! I'll chop your head off!"

As he spoke, Ning Wu raised his short knife and stabbed at the man. Jiang Yuwei was about to speak to stop him when she saw the man in white kick Ning Wu far away, but he remained standing still.

Seeing his appearance, Jiang Yuwei knew that this man was skilled in martial arts. She then turned to Ning Zixuan and gestured for him to go forward and subdue the man.

Ning Zixuan naturally knew that this person had a solid foundation. The rudimentary skills that Tie Zhu and Ning Wu had just begun to learn were no match for this person. Rather than sending them to their deaths, it was better to take him down himself.

Jiang Yuwei wanted to distract the man in white, so she spoke up:

"What do you want here? If you just want a meal, I can give it to you. But if you're here to rob and kill, then you'll lose your life here today!"

No sooner had Jiang Yuwei finished speaking than Ning Zixuan suddenly leaped in front of the man in white and, taking him by surprise, placed his sword against his neck.

Seeing this, Jiang Yuwei quickly called out:

"Yun Qing, Tie Zhu! Tie him up right now!"

Upon hearing this, Tie Zhu immediately grabbed the rope from the oxcart, ran over, and had Yun Qing hold the white-clad man's hands while Tie Zhu tied him up. They quickly bound the man tightly.

Seeing that the person had been brought under control, Jiang Yuwei said to Tie Zhu:

"Tiezhu, take him inside!"

After saying that, Jiang Yuwei cautiously looked around the courtyard gate for a while, and only after confirming that no one else was there did she instruct Yun Qing:

"You stay in the yard and keep watch for a while. I'm afraid he might have accomplices."

Upon hearing this, Yun Qing nodded to Jiang Yuwei, took his sword, and sat down on the oxcart.

Jiang Yuwei glanced at Ning Wu, who was still lying on the ground, and said helplessly to Ning Zixuan:

"Go and help him back inside."

Then Jiang Yuwei went into the house, kicked the white-clothed man sitting on the ground aside, stepped forward and swept all the hair in front of him away. Just one glance made Jiang Yuwei so frightened that she took several steps back.

This was a man whose face was burned beyond recognition, with only his eyes stubbornly staring at Jiang Yuwei, the hatred in his eyes seeming as if he wanted to tear her to pieces.

Xu Qianqian, who was initially curious, wanted to come out and see what had happened, but she only peeked out once and immediately fainted from fright. Ning Chunlin, seeing this, hurriedly came out trembling and carried Xu Qianqian to the kang (a heated brick bed).

Seeing that Xu Qianqian had fainted from fright, the man couldn't help but snort coldly:

"You're all like this, you can't stand to see my face, but you insist on lifting it up to look at it, ugh!"

Jiang Yuwei steadied herself and looked at the man in front of her, saying:

"Why aren't you sleeping in the middle of the night? What are you doing out here pretending to be a ghost?"

Seeing that Jiang Yuwei didn't seem afraid of him at all, and even dared to look him in the face while speaking, the man became curious and began to scrutinize her.

"Ha, you're quite interesting. You're not afraid of me?"

Jiang Yuwei looked at the man in front of her and slowly spoke:

"What's there to be afraid of? You're not a real ghost. Even if a real ghost came, I wouldn't be afraid!"

The man snorted coldly and turned his head away, refusing to look at her.

Seeing that this man was difficult to communicate with, Jiang Yuwei simply found a stool and sat down in front of him, continuing to ask:

"I'm asking you a question. What are you doing here in the middle of the night, trying to scare people instead of sleeping?"

Upon hearing this, the man glared angrily at Jiang Yuwei.

"Who has time to scare you! I haven't even asked you what you're doing in my house yet!"

Jiang Yuwei was surprised to hear this:

"Is this your home?"

The man nodded impatiently.

Jiang Yuwei was somewhat skeptical, so she asked again:

"So you're from Jiajiagou Village, what's your name?"

The man looked up and met Jiang Yuwei's gaze, a pang of sadness rising in his heart. Since his home was gone, no one knew his name anymore, and no one cared what his name was. He was now living like a walking corpse. This woman not only wasn't afraid of him, but she even wanted to know his name…

The man thought for a moment, then spoke:

"My name is Jia Yu."

Jiang Yuwei muttered to herself:

"Jia Yu, if you really are from this village, can you tell me how your village fell into such a state?"

Upon hearing Jiang Yuwei's words, Jia Yu fell into deep thought. After a long while, he spoke softly:

"This is a long story. The reason our village has fallen into such a state is because everyone in our village is dead. Heh, now I'm the only walking corpse left in the whole village."
